Abstract:In the history of poetry,Wang Wei was placed in the orthodox position in the heyday of the Tang Dynasty.Though the personality reflected in his poems was not as outstanding as those reflected in the poems by Li Bai,Du Fu and other leading poets,his poems shared the poetic features of other well-known poets in the heyday of the Tang Dynasty.Wang Wei's poetic creation in the history of poetry was in the main line of the development from the Han Dynasty and the Wei Period to the early Tang Dynasty and the heyday of the Tang Dynasty.His poetic writing had two basic origins,the first of which was his learning from the poetic style of the Jian'an Period(during the reign of Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty).That is,he inherited the achievement made by Chen Zi'ang and his followers for their poetry in which they revived the past and dated back to the poetic style of the Han Dynasty and the Wei Period.He learned a lot in the mechanism of loose sentences in ancient poems,in the way how the poets from the Han Dynasty and the Wei Period expressed their feelings and emotions enthusiastically,and also in the way how they made narrations vividly.The second basic origin was his acquisition of the poetic style of the Jiangzuo(the east side of the Yangtze River) style.That is,he appreciated the attractive cultural interests of the hereditary scholar class represented by the poets in the east side of the Yangtze River,and on the basis of these cultural interests made a selection of the poetic style of the Six Periods which lasted from the 3rd century to the end of the 6th century A.D.In general,judging from the origin of poetry and its relevant cultural tradition,Wang Wei's poetic style was an integration of the cultural tradition of the Han Dynasty,the Wei Period and the Six Periods with the tradition of poetry.This integration also made his poetic style a fantastic integration of gracefulness and simplicity.
