Abstract:Nowadys, indoor air pollution is harming human health and has become a global problem. Therefore, research on indoor air pollution is necessary. This paper systematically reviews the research progress of indoor air pollution in recent years, mainly including indoor pollutant types and sources, indoor pollutant detection methods and equipment, pollutant release simulation models and quality standards, indoor air treatment technologies, and points out the problems that exist in current researches. Furthermore, it proposes the direction of future research work.

Abstract:We introduce our recent research advances in the field of indoor Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions and control. To characterize indoor VOC source characteristics, we performed the following analyses:(1) By using analogy analysis, ie, dimensionless analysis, the correlations of scaling the VOC emission data from some typical test conditions (open chamber or sealed chamber) to other conditions were obtained, which were validated with our experimental data or those in the literature;(2) Based upon the fractal theory and mercury intruding porosimetry (MIP) experiments, a kind of macro-meso scale model was developed to predict the diffusion coefficient of VOCs in building material or adsorption material, which was then validated experimentally. Abstract:Recently,the indoor air pollution is increasingly serious due to some technologies for increasing building energy efficiency and various decoration techniques.Indoor air quality has attracted peoples' extensive attention.In the past,the study of organic pollutions often concentrated to VOC,but,nowadays researchers have found that some semi-volatile organic compounds(SVOC) also cause indoor air pollution which may have some adverse effects on human health.In China,the study of SVOC pollution and health is still in early stage.In this paper,the sources and harm of indoor SVOC,pollution status and human exposure were presented.In addition,some future research directions were also provided.

Abstract:In interior air environment of cars, the mass concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) are so high that human health is threatened. Their sources are analyzed and the controlling strategies and technologies are discussed. Reduce interior temperature, enhance vehicle ventilation, control interior materials, clean air-conditioning on time and use photo catalytic oxidation or adsorptive technology are the effective manners to lower their pollution levels. Some suggestions are given to manufacturers, government, vehicle occupants or car owners to abate in-car VOC exposure or harm.

Abstract:The status of indoor air pollution and its control in China are reviewed by introducing the pollution characteristics of major indoor air pollutants, the strategies and measures adopted to control indoor air pollution, as well as the major problems existing in the current indoor air pollution control. Although indoor pollution of formaldehyde and benzene has been effectively alleviated in recent years in China, indoor pollution of toluene and xylenes is still serious. Besides, studies show that indoor pollution of particulate matter (PM), biological pollutants, and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) might also be serious in China. The establishment and implementation of indoor air quality (IAQ)-related regulations and standards, the research on indoor air pollution and its control, and the development of indoor environmental monitoring and cleaning industry have played significant roles in preventing and controlling indoor air pollution in China. However, problems such as lack of mandatory standards for IAQ, lack of regulation and labeling of pollutant emissions from indoor decorating and refurbishing materials, lack of an effective performance evaluation system for air cleaning products, and lack of proper maintenance of air cleaners remain to be solved for further improvement of IAQ.

Abstract:Indoor volatile organic compounds pollution is jointly impacted by material emission level, air supply conditions and so forth, which is one coupling and complicated process. According to building usage function and patterns, continuous and intermittent air supplies were chosen as the analysis conditions in this present study. Dynamics characteristics of controlling indoor volatile organic compounds pollution by air supply were investigated by establishing materials volatile organic compounds emission model and adsorption model. Influence features of different supplied airflow rate, mixing ventilation and displacement ventilation, occupant density on controlling indoor volatile organic compounds pollution were analyzed and compared.

Abstract:A survey was conducted to investigate the indoor air pollution after room decoration within 7 districts in Harbin and such pollutants as formaldehyde, ammonia and benzene series were sampled and analyzed for over 100 houses. Of all the samples collected, 85.2% of formaldehyde, 53.1% of ammonia and 50.7% of benzene exceeded the standard criterion. Pertinent to the regional status in Harbin, a study was carried out to investigate into the effect of ventilation, photocatalysis and ozonization on the reduction of indoor formaldehyde and ammonia. Experimental results showed that extended ventilation had better reduction of formaldehyde than ammonia, obvious pollutants reduction might be achieved within 30 min of photocatalysis although fluctuated for ammonia, and no obvious reduction of formaldehyde and ammonia were observed in the case of ozonization.

Abstract:VOCs can not only bring harm to human health and environment,but also lead to photochemical reaction with NO_x under ultraviolet irradiation,which can generate some secondary pollutants such as O_3,etc.Furthermore,VOCs can also act with PM in the air to generate secondary organic aerosols.Therefore,the control over VOCs carries great significance.VOCs emission from natural sources was far higher than that from anthropogenic sources all over the world.In most parts of mainland of China,emission from the natural sources and anthropogenic sources was closer to each other.However,anthropogenic sources emission was higher than natural sources emission in some industrial intensive areas.The common VOCs control methods were summarized,including combustion,adsorption,absorption,condensation,biological membrane process,corona discharge,and photocatalytic oxidation method,etc.VOCs control was still at initial stage in China,and the stricter emission standards and ordinances were gradually shaping and improving as a result of technological advance and innovations.

Abstract:There are several categories of indoor air pollutants. Organic pollutants are the most common ones. This study chooses TVOC and Formaldehyde, two of the typical pollutants, as indicators of evaluating household indoor air pollution and improves the TVOC concentration prediction model through the samples of indoor air taken from 3122 households. This study also categorizes and explains the features of household indoor air pollution based on the TVOC and Formaldehyde models as well as a large amount of sample measurement. Moreover, this study combines the TVOC model with the Formaldehyde model to calculate and verify the critical values of each type of indoor air pollution. In this study, indoor air pollution is categorized into three types: decoration pollution, consumption pollution and transition pollution. During the first 12 months after decoration, decoration pollution is the primary pollution type, both TVOC and Formaldehyde are highly concentrated while sometimes seriously over the standard. Pollutants mainly come from volatile sources. After the first 12 month but before 24 months the indoor air pollution is transition pollution. Both decoration materials and human activates affect the indoor air quality. 24 months after decoration, it transits into consumption pollution. In this stage, the main pollutants come from combustion sources, and concentration of pollutants fluctuates with the appearance and disappearance of the sources.

Abstract:Volatile organic compounds (VOCs),which seriously threaten human health,have been the key factor influencing indoor air quality,and need to be treated effectively.In this paper,the main purification technologies of indoor VOCs were reviewed,including green plants,adsorption,non-thermal plasma (NTP),metal catalytic oxidation,and photocatalytic oxidation.The principles and influence factors of the purification technologies were summarized,and the merits and faults of each technology and problems need to be resolved in the future were analyzed.Green plants are just suitable for low concentration pollutants,and are usually used as supplementary means.The core of adsorption is the adsorbent,and the replacement of regeneration of adsorbent should be considered.For non-thermal plasma,the removal efficiency of VOCs by NTP technology is high,but the cost is high.As for metal catalytic oxidation method,the metal oxide catalysts with low price and high efficiency are needed to be developed.For photocatalytic oxidation technology,the current study is focused on the modification of TiO2 and improvement of light conversion efficiency.This paper also briefly presents the current situation of the air purifier market and the proportion of various technologies in the market.Then the technical research hot spots in the future were proposed.

Abstract:Formaldehyde is one of symbolic pollutants in indoor air pollution. The source of formaldehyde and its toxicological property as well as treatment and control measures was introduced. It was concluded that whole process controlling is necessary for formaldehyde pollution under guideline of ecological theory, including reducing the content of formaldehyde in decorating material and making decoration in a scientific and reasonable way, and treating the emitted formaldehyde in the room by biological, chemical or physi-chemical methods.
Study on the Indoor Air Levels of Indoor Formaldehyde and Total Volatile Organic Compounds after Decoration

Abstract:Objective To study the pollution levels,characteristics,causes and related adverse effects of indoor volatile organic compounds(VOCs) on human health after decoration. Methods The concentration of indoor air formaldehyde and TVOC were detected,meanwhile the adverse health effects were investigated by questionnaires. Result The results showed that the houses in which formaldehyde concentration exceeded the national indoor air quality standard occupied 47.1%, and three months later, the rate still was 40%,the highest level was 6.56 times of the standard. While the rate of exceed the national standard of TVOC was 76% within one month and 0% three months later respectively. As far as the concerned subjective syndromes, only the complaint of disgusted smell was significantly different between those who lived in newly decorated rooms and those who lived in the houses which taken as the control. Conclusion Now the pollution level of VOCs caused by decoration is some lower than before,but the pollution of formaldehyde was still pervasive and serious. The causes of pollution lay in artificial board materials used for furniture and decoration. Moreover, the complaints of the discomfort of eyes and upper respiratory tract will increase as people moved in the newly decorated rooms.

Abstract:Volatile organic compounds（VOCs） are important precursors for the formation of O 3 and PM 2.5 , which is extremely harmful to human health and environment. VOCs governance becomes the key to air pollution control. Based on the current situation of VOCs treatment, the sources and types of VOCs were summarized, and the policies, regulations and standards related to VOCs in China were sorted out. In addition, the VOCs treatment technologies were expounded in detail. The research status of adsorption, catalytic combustion and adsorption-catalytic combustion combined treatment technology was emphatically analyzed and the future development direction of VOCs treatment was prospected.
