Abstract:Abstract With the continuous improvement of the social level, the physical health condition is gradually paid attention to. However, most people spend most of their life indoors. Indoor environmental pollution has become a major problem affecting people’s health and safety in modern society. This paper analyzes the status quo of indoor pollution, indoor pollutant sources, indoor pollution hazards, and describes the prevention and control measures of indoor pollution to reduce the harm of indoor air pollution to human body.

Abstract:While indoor air pollution dangers gradually are becoming better known,the importance of maintaining good indoor air quality(IAQ) is now a pressing issue.Therefore,identifying the best effective air cleaning techniques from among those currently available is an urgent need.The sources and dangers of the indoor air contamination are elaborated in this paper.The paper describes the merits and shortcomings of traditional air cleaning techniques such as the ventilation-air change and adsorption methods.The paper objectively evaluates new techniques such as the photocatalyst and air-catalyst methods.Finally,it discusses future prospects for indoor air decontamination techniques.

Abstract:The status of indoor air pollution and its control in China are reviewed by introducing the pollution characteristics of major indoor air pollutants, the strategies and measures adopted to control indoor air pollution, as well as the major problems existing in the current indoor air pollution control. Although indoor pollution of formaldehyde and benzene has been effectively alleviated in recent years in China, indoor pollution of toluene and xylenes is still serious. Besides, studies show that indoor pollution of particulate matter (PM), biological pollutants, and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) might also be serious in China. The establishment and implementation of indoor air quality (IAQ)-related regulations and standards, the research on indoor air pollution and its control, and the development of indoor environmental monitoring and cleaning industry have played significant roles in preventing and controlling indoor air pollution in China. However, problems such as lack of mandatory standards for IAQ, lack of regulation and labeling of pollutant emissions from indoor decorating and refurbishing materials, lack of an effective performance evaluation system for air cleaning products, and lack of proper maintenance of air cleaners remain to be solved for further improvement of IAQ.

Abstract:Formaldehyde is one of symbolic pollutants in indoor air pollution. The source of formaldehyde and its toxicological property as well as treatment and control measures was introduced. It was concluded that whole process controlling is necessary for formaldehyde pollution under guideline of ecological theory, including reducing the content of formaldehyde in decorating material and making decoration in a scientific and reasonable way, and treating the emitted formaldehyde in the room by biological, chemical or physi-chemical methods.

Abstract:The quality of indoor air is a very important factor that may directly affect human health. There are many sources as well as a variety of indoor air pollutants. Therefore, the health impact is complicated, affecting different organs and systems of human being such as respiratory and immune system. The main indoor air pollutants are the combustion products from smoking, cooking and heating, the chemical pollutants from renovation materials and the biological contaminants. The kinds, sources and health impacts of these pollutants that affect the indoor air quality are reviewed in this paper.

Abstract:A survey was conducted to investigate the indoor air pollution after room decoration within 7 districts in Harbin and such pollutants as formaldehyde, ammonia and benzene series were sampled and analyzed for over 100 houses. Of all the samples collected, 85.2% of formaldehyde, 53.1% of ammonia and 50.7% of benzene exceeded the standard criterion. Pertinent to the regional status in Harbin, a study was carried out to investigate into the effect of ventilation, photocatalysis and ozonization on the reduction of indoor formaldehyde and ammonia. Experimental results showed that extended ventilation had better reduction of formaldehyde than ammonia, obvious pollutants reduction might be achieved within 30 min of photocatalysis although fluctuated for ammonia, and no obvious reduction of formaldehyde and ammonia were observed in the case of ozonization.

Abstract:The indoor air quality influences human body’s comfort and health seriously, and polluted indoor air will not only affect human’s health, but also decrease people’s work efficiency, therefore, the detection and control technology of indoor air pollution is the focus and difficulty of scientific research now. This paper introduces the current main pollutant and their hazard of indoor air in China first, then takes the eight houses in a plot of Huizhou city, Guangdong province as examples, and studies their indoor air pollution condition and reason by detecting and analyzing their pollutant contents. At the same time, some effective measures of precaution and control on indoor air pollution in China are proposed in the end of this paper.

Abstract:This study was conducted to evaluate the ability of plants to purify indoor air by observing the effective reduction rate among pollutant types of particulate matter (PM) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). PM and four types of VOCs were measured in a new building that is less than three years old and under three different conditions: before applying the plant, after applying the plant, and a room without a plant. The removal rate of each pollutant type due to the plant was also compared and analyzed. In the case of indoor PM, the removal effect was negligible because of outdoor influence. However, 9% of benzene, 75% of ethylbenzene, 72% of xylene, 75% of styrene, 50% of formaldehyde, 36% of acetaldehyde, 35% of acrolein with acetone, and 85% of toluene were reduced. The purification of indoor air by natural ventilation is meaningless because the ambient PM concentration has recently been high. However, contamination by gaseous materials such as VOCs can effectively be removed through the application of plants.

Abstract:Indoor formaldehyde pollution did a lot of harm to our health. Aimed to control indoor formaldehyde pollution effectively, at the first, the qualities and sources, hazards, factors that influenced the indoor formaldehyde concentration especially the temperature and humidity, were introduced in this paper. The results in relative papers showed that the indoor formaldehyde concentration increased with the increasing of the temperature and humidity. After these academic results were listed, the indoor formaldehyde's data in Beijing in 2005 were analyzed. Those data were gained from Indoor Environment Testing Center of Beijing University of Technology. For making out those relations among the temperature, humidity and the indoor formaldehyde concentration, the lineal coefficients among the mean temperature, the mean the month mean humidity and formaldehyde concentration were calculated. In the mean time, for explaining those relations more complete, the lineal coefficients among the mean temperature, the mean humidity and the percent of up-standard samples were calculated. The results indicated the temperature's influence more than the humidity on the month mean formaldehyde concentration and the percent of up-standard samples in each month. Then based on the different characteristics of indoor formaldehyde pollution in the decorating and decorated houses, different methods to control indoor formaldehyde pollution were introduced respectively.

Abstract:There are several categories of indoor air pollutants. Organic pollutants are the most common ones. This study chooses TVOC and Formaldehyde, two of the typical pollutants, as indicators of evaluating household indoor air pollution and improves the TVOC concentration prediction model through the samples of indoor air taken from 3122 households. This study also categorizes and explains the features of household indoor air pollution based on the TVOC and Formaldehyde models as well as a large amount of sample measurement. Moreover, this study combines the TVOC model with the Formaldehyde model to calculate and verify the critical values of each type of indoor air pollution. In this study, indoor air pollution is categorized into three types: decoration pollution, consumption pollution and transition pollution. During the first 12 months after decoration, decoration pollution is the primary pollution type, both TVOC and Formaldehyde are highly concentrated while sometimes seriously over the standard. Pollutants mainly come from volatile sources. After the first 12 month but before 24 months the indoor air pollution is transition pollution. Both decoration materials and human activates affect the indoor air quality. 24 months after decoration, it transits into consumption pollution. In this stage, the main pollutants come from combustion sources, and concentration of pollutants fluctuates with the appearance and disappearance of the sources.
