Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of proanoprofen eyedrops for reducing postoperative ocular pain and inflammation from laser epithelial keratomileusis(LASEK).Methods:One hundred fifteen eyes from 62 cases with an age range of (26.46±6.56)yrs and myopia status of (-5.75±2.25)D were enrolled in the study. A randomized and controlled study was used. 0.1% fluorometholone plus proanoprefen eyedrops and 0.1% fluorometholone were administered four times a day to the study group and 0.1% fluorometholone only was administered four times a day for the control group. Slitlamp biomicroscopy and clinical scoring(0 to 4) were used to assess photophobia,tearing,stinging-burning,and pain(0=no symptoms;1=mild symptoms;2=moderate symptoms;3=severe symptoms;4=very severe symptoms). The assessments were made at 1 day,4 days, and 1 and 2 weeks postoperatively. Results:Postoperative clinical symptom scores for the study group and the control group were 5.84±2.81 and 8.84±2.41(P0.001) at 1 day,0.90±1.12 and 4.67±2.51(P0.001) at 4 days,0.10±0.31 and 0.16±0.37(P=0.39) at 1 week, and 0.034±0.19 and 0.02±0.13(P=0.57) at 2 weeks, respectively. No severe complications were found in either group.Conclusion:0.1% proanoprefen eyedrops have an important role in efficacy and safety for controlling ocular pain and inflammation after LASEK.[
