Abstract:The effect of Lanthanum content, calcinating temperature and calcinating time on the photocatalytic activity of Lanthanum doping TiO2 was investigated. The study showed that samples treated under higher temperature and longer calcinating time exhibited higher photocatalytic activity. The X -ray diffraction pattern revealed that the lattice of those samples was highly expanded, It is suggested that the highly distorted crystal lattice may be involved in producing more ways by which the hole was captured. Thus, the photocatalytic activity of samples treated under higher temperature and longer time was promoted.
Study on Photocatalytic Performance of LaPO4 Nanorods with Different Crystal Phases

Abstract:Rare earth phosphate has a wide application in optical materials,laser materials and many fields with great develop-ment prospects.In this paper,LaPO4 nanorods with different crystalline phases are prepared with hydrothermal method,its photocatalytic performance are discussed,as well as the structure and UV diffuse reflectance spectroscopy.The research indi-cates that the hydrothermal temperature plays a key role in the crystal phase,while it is hexagonal at 120 ℃,monoclinic at 180℃ and the mixed phase at 160 ℃.The UV absorption has no obvious change of each crystalline phase,and they all show nano-rods.The photocatalytic activity of LaPO4 for the degradation of MB is studied;it is found that the monoclinic LaPO4 has the best photocatalytic activity.Furthermore,monoclinic LaPO4 could decrease the fluorescence quantum efficiency and increase the separation efficiency of electrons and holes,which improve the photocatalytic activity.Besides,the main active species are con-firmed to be hydroxyl radicals with capture experiments during the photocatalytic process.
Tailoring Electronic Structure of Stretchable Freestanding Single-Crystal LaNiO3 Thin Film for Enhanced Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Abstract:The comprehension of the electronic structure of an electrochemical catalyst, as a fundamental core content, has significantly accelerated advancements in competitive catalyst engineering since the adsorption and desorption abilities of an electrode are governed by its surface energy profile. However, achieving precise control over the electronic structure poses a significant challenge. Nanoporous materials, high-entropy systems, and layered double hydroxides frequently induce stoichiometric changes, leading to complexity such as electronic reconstruction, energy degeneracy disruption, and impurity energy levels. Here, we have successfully developed a stretchable freestanding single-crystal LaNiO3 thin film electrocatalyst enabling the accurate manipulation of the electronic structure on a large scale. Different from the rigid epitaxial heterostructure catalyst, we observed that with every 1 % increase in strain, the OER current of freestanding LaNiO3 is enhanced by ∼238 % compared to the pristine state. This is attributed to the dx2-y2 orbital occupation increasing by ∼7 %, and the eg-center decreasing by ∼0.05 eV, resulting in a weakened Ni-O adsorption.

Abstract:A novel and efficient technique has been designed for the creation of oxygen vacancies on La2Ti2O7 (LTO) nanosheets. This is achieved via a controlled solid-state reaction between NaBH4 and LTO nanosheets. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses expose that these processed LTO specimens possess a unique crystalline core/amorphous shell structure, represented as La2Ti2O7@La2Ti2O7-x. According to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) observations, there is a notable correlation between the reaction time, temperature, and the concentration of oxygen vacancies. The concentration of these vacancies tends to increase along with the reaction time and temperature. Concurrently, UV-Visible spectra and photocatalytic tests reveal a significant impact of oxygen vacancies on the LTO surface on both light absorption and photocatalytic functionality. Most notably, the LTO nanosheets with engineered oxygen vacancies have demonstrated an exceptional photocatalytic capacity for hydrogen production under visible light. The maximal activity recorded was an impressive 149 μmol g-1 h-1, which is noticeably superior to the performance of the pristine La2Ti2O7.
The Research on the Photocatalytic Activity of V and La Co-doped Nano-sized TiO2

Abstract:The un-doped,single-doped and co-doped TiO2 nanoparticles have been prepared by sol-gel method and characterized with XRD,TEM,BET.The photocatalytic activities of these samples were studied by photocatalytic oxidation of methyl orange.It is found that V-doping promotes phase transformation and crystalline size increase of TiO2.However,La-doping has restrained function.When TiO2 is co-doped with V and La,the promoted function and restrained function counteract each other,and the restrained function plays dominated role.V and La-doping improve photocatalytic activity of TiO2,and the V and La co-doping improve the photocatalytic activity furtherly.In the experiment condition,the optimal co-doped concentration is 0.05% V and 0.05% La,and the optimal calcined temperature is 600 ℃.

Abstract:We report a facile synthesis of mesoporous TiO2 with a large specific surface area and rich oxygen vacancies using La-doped TiO2 through high-temperature annealing. Such integration of a unique mesoporous structure and oxygen vacancies provides effective carrier transport and increased surface active sites. The effects of lanthanum on mesoporous TiO2 were studied experimentally and theoretical calculations were performed. Thermal treatment was conducted at temperatures ranging from 350 to 900 °C. The x-ray diffraction analyses confirm that the formation of anatase TiO2 remains stable until 650 °C for pure TiO2 and 850 °C for the La doped sample. It was noted that there was a phase transformation from anatase to rutile with an increase in temperature. Morphological analysis confirmed a mesoporous structure with lanthanum covering the surface of the TiO2 mesospheres. Elemental analysis confirms the presence of La in the TiO2 composition and increased oxygen vacancies with increased lanthanum concentration. The density functional theory calculations reveal that the oxygen vacancy heavily alters the electronic structure of TiO2. The distance between the oxygen vacancy and lanthanum was shown to play an important role in altering the bandgap of TiO2. When lanthanum was near the oxygen vacancy, the bandgap was larger than that of all the models. Lanthanum, when away from the vacancy, leads to the lowest bandgap among all the models.

Bulk Oxygen Vacancies Enriched TiO2 and Its Enhanced Visible Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:Via a vacuum thermal treatment, oxygen vacancy (O-v) was introduced into TiO2 bulk lattice during the phase transformation from amorphous TiO2 to anatase. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectra and X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirm the involvement of O-v causes more violent changes in both bulk and surface structure. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) demonstrated as-obtained V350 gets about a 40-times enhanced O-v signal compared with pure TiO2 (A350) and a 10-times larger signal than that of common O-v modified TiO2 (A450-V350), which clearly illustrates the high concentration of O-v in its bulk lattice. The much enriched O(v)s in both bulk and surface lattices of TiO2 help V350 get an enhanced capacity in either visible light harvest or photocarriers generation. And a much higher visible photocatalytic activity for Aicd Orange 7 degradation was finally achieved by V350. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Lanthanum phosphate powders were synthesized by direct solid–liquid reaction of lanthanum oxide and phosphoric acid at the La:P ratio of 1:1. Phase-pure and fine grain size LaPO4 powders could be obtained by calcining the as-received powders at the temperature higher than 600°C. It was demonstrated that the phase type, grain size and morphology of the LaPO4 powders were calcined at various temperatures. We have studied the microstructure of sintered LaPO4 ceramic and Al2O3/LaPO4 composite using the synthesized powders by SEM and TEM analysis. An interesting layered crystal structure and lots of dislocations inside LaPO4 grains and at the interface of Al2O3/LaPO4 composite were observed. Low hardness and multiple dislocations and dislocation networks indicated the layered LaPO4 ceramic could possess excellent machinability. As an example for engineering application, machinable Al2O3/LaPO4 composite with weak bonding was fabricated and characterized.
Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity of Vacuum-activated TiO2 Induced by Oxygen Vacancies

Abstract:TiO2 (Degussa P25) photocatalysts harboring abundant oxygen vacancies (Vacuum P25) were manufactured using a simple and economic Vacuum deoxidation process. Control experiments showed that temperature and time of vacuum deoxidation had a significant effect on Vacuum P25 photocatalytic activity. After 240min of visible light illumination, the optimal Vacuum P25 photocatalysts (vacuum deoxidation treated at 330 degrees C for 3h) reach as high as 94% and 88% of photodegradation efficiency for rhodamine B (RhB) and tetracycline, respectively, which are around 4.5 and 4.9 times as that of pristine P25. The XPS, PL and EPR analyses indicated that the oxygen vacancies were produced in the Vacuum P25 during the vacuum deoxidation process. The oxygen vacancy states can produce vacancy energy level located below the conduction band minimum, which resulting in the bandgap narrowing, thus extending the photoresponse wavelength range of Vacuum P25. The positron annihilation analysis indicated that the concentrations ratio of bulk and surface oxygen vacancies could be adjusted by changing the vacuum deoxidation temperature and time. Decreasing the ratio of bulk and surface oxygen vacancies was shown to improve photogenerated electron-hole pair separation efficiency, which leads to an obvious enhancement of the visible photocatalytic activities of Vacuum P25.
Macroscopic Polarization Enhancement Boosting Piezo-Photocatalytic Performance of Bi4Ti3O12 Via La-doping

Abstract:As a novel environmental treatment technology, piezo-photocatalysis, which can simultaneously harvest mechanical and solar energy, and convert it into chemical energy to drive redox reactions, is currently receiving widespread attention. In this study, Bi4Ti3O12 irregular particles and Bi4-xLaxTi3O12 (x=0, 0.25, 0.75, 1) sheets were synthesized by solid-phase and one-step molten-salt methods respectively, and the effect of different La doping levels on piezo-photocatalytic activity of Bi4-xLaxTi3O12 sheets was investigated. Among all samples, Bi3La1Ti3O12 exhibited the highest piezo-photocatalytic efficiency, achieving complete methyl orange (MO) degradation in just 60 minutes, with an apparent rate constant of 0.0705 min⁻1. This activity was approximately 2.78 and 1.95 times greater than that of Bi4Ti3O12 irregular particles and Bi4Ti3O12 sheets respectively, also surpassing the performance of most piezo-photocatalysts reported. The mechanism of the enhanced piezo-photocatalytic activity of Bi4-xLaxTi3O12 is deeply analyzed by combining finite element (FEM) simulation analysis with piezo-response force microscopy (PFM). The study demonstrates that the utilization of the molten salt method and appropriate amount of La doping increases the specific surface area, optimizes energy band structure, as well as promotes the synergy between the piezoelectric and photocatalytic effects, which contribute to the excellent piezo-photocatalytic activity of Bi3La1Ti3O12. In this work, it is shown that the combination of the preparation method and doping strategy has enabled the successful enhancement of the piezo-photocatalytic performance of the piezoelectric material, thereby greatly expanding its potential for practical applications.
Enhanced UV–Vis–NIR photocatalytic activity of La doped BaBiO2Cl: Role of oxygen vacancies

Abstract:In order to make the most of solar energy, the development of efficient UV–Vis–NIR activated photocatalysts has attracted more and more attention. In this study, the UV–Vis–NIR broad spectrum activated photocatalysts La-doped BaBiO2Cl with abundant oxygen vacancies (OVs) were successfully prepared by solid state reaction. The experimental results and theoretical calculations revealed that La doping induced OVs in BaBiO2Cl, formed an intermediate level, extended the light absorption to the NIR region, and promoted carrier separation efficiency. Owing to the synergistic promotion effect, the optimal BaBiO2Cl–3%La exhibited obviously enhanced photodegradation rate, which was about 3.26 times higher than that of pure BaBiO2Cl under UV–Vis–NIR light irradiation. This work provides a resultful strategy for designing new full-spectrum-activated photocatalysts for environmental protection.

An Active La/TiO2 Photocatalyst Prepared by Ultrasonication-Assisted Sol–gel Method Followed by Treatment under Supercritical Conditions

Abstract:A La-doped TiO2(La/TiO2) photocatalyst with optimum La/Ti molar ratio of 1.25% is prepared by ultrasound-assisted sol-gel method, followed by supercritical drying in ethanol fluid. During liquid phase photocatalytic degradation of phenol, the as-prepared La/TiO2 exhibits higher activity than the La/TiO2 obtained without ultrasonication. Meanwhile, the La/TiO2 obtained via supercritical treatment is more active than either the undoped TiO2 obtained under supercritical conditions or the La/TiO2 obtained via direct calcination instead of supercritical treatment. Based on various characterizations, the promoting effects of ultrasonication, supercritical treatment, and La-modification are discussed by considering the enhanced particle dispersion, the higher crystallization degree of anatase and the increase of the surface oxygen vacancies and/or defects, which facilitates the adsorption of phenol molecules and also inhibits the recombination between photoelectrons and holes, resulting in the higher quantum efficiency of photocatalysis. Meanwhile, the ultrasonication and supercritical treatment also strengthen the interaction between the La-dopants and the TiO2, which could enhance the light absorbance and thus, increase the photocatalytic activity. Abstract:Mesoporous thin titanium dioxide films have been prepared on titanium plates through micro-plasma oxidation. To increase the films' photo-catalytic activity, La ions with different concentrations (0, 0.025, 0.005, 0.075, 0.1g/L) were added into the H(2)SO(4) electrolyte solution. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy techniques were applied to characterize the modified films. A kind of typical textile industry pollutant (Rhodamine B) was used to evaluate the photo-catalytic activity of the films. The results showed that this activity of the films had been improved by adding La ions into the electrolyte solution. The enhanced photo-catalytic activities might be resulted from the increase of mesopores' number, producing more reactive sites to absorb and oxidize pollutants. Also, the improvement was related to the forming of titanium dioxide lattice distortion, which could accept more photoexcitated holes and produce more strong surface free radicals to oxidate adsorptive molecules.
Oxygen vacancy induced performance enhancement of toluene catalytic oxidation using LaFeO3 perovskite oxides

Abstract:Surface oxygen vacancies have been demonstrated to be an important factor for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) catalytic oxidation. In this work, the oxygen vacancy over LaFeO3 perovskite oxides was tuned by the way of controlling A-site cation deficiency. The catalysts were synthesized through the Pechini method and investigated for the complete oxidation of toluene. Upon the strategy, the catalytic activity for the complete oxidation of toluene was enhanced obviously. The sample L0.90FO exhibited excellent catalytic performance, better than the stoichiometric sample LaFeO3 and commercial Fe2O3. Via analyzation of diversified characterization results, the introduction of A-site cation deficiency could affect the surface physicochemical properties to a certain extent, including enhanced oxygen vacancies, surface element valence state, and surface oxygen species content. Furthermore, through DFT calculation, the introduction of A-site cation deficiency could boost the formation of oxygen vacancies, consistent with the results of characterizations. Herein, the strategy of the introduction of A-site cation deficiency is one effective method to tune the surface oxygen vacancy which would benefit the catalytic performance of toluene catalytic oxidation.

Abstract:BiVO4 has been widely used in the field of photocatalysis due to its nontoxic and moderate band gap. However, single BiVO4 has the disadvantages of a high recombination rate of photogenerated carriers and weak response to visible light, inhibiting its photocatalytic applications. To explore viable solutions, a hybrid material composed of lanthanum-doped bismuth vanadate (La-BiVO4) and oxygen-doped porous graphite carbon nitride (O-doped g-C3N4), i.e., La-BiVO4/O-doped g-C3N4 powder, was prepared by a facile hydrothermal reaction and low-temperature calcination. Then, the powder was loaded on polyacrylonitrile nanofibers (NFs) through the electrospinning fiber technique. Various surface science characterizations, including transmission electron microscopy and nitrogen absorption and desorption analysis, confirmed the successful synthesis of a mesoporous heterojunction material. The La3+-doping as well as the porous morphologies and larger specific surface area of the O-doped g-C3N4 ultimately improve the photocatalytic abilities via a proposed Z-scheme heterojunction mechanism. The roles of La3+-doping and morphology modification in promoting the separation of the photogenerated carriers and broadening the optical absorption range were experimentally discussed. The RhB degradation experiment indicated that the La-BiVO4/O-doped g-C3N4 powder has excellent photocatalytic activity, which is about 2.85 and 2 times higher than that of the pure BiVO4 and O-doped g-C3N4, respectively. Meanwhile, the La-BiVO4/O-doped g-C3N4 NF shows good stability and recoverability after a 10-cycle testing. Such a hybrid photocatalyst with a proposed Z-scheme heterojunction mechanism and good plasticity might pave a feasible way to fabricate a new library of photocatalysts.

Abstract:The BiPO4–x nanorod with surface oxygen vacancy was fabricated via vacuum deoxidation. The concentration and kind of oxygen vacancy could be controlled by tuning the deoxidation temperature and time in vacuum. The photocatalytic activity depended on the concentration and kind of surface oxygen vacancy, and the optimum photocatalytic activity and photocurrent of the BiPO4–x nanorod was about 1.5 and 2.5 times as high as that of pure BiPO4, respectively. Besides, the photocatalytic response wave range of the BiPO4–x nanorod has been expanded to more than 365 nm. The enhancement of photocatalytic activity is attributed to the high separation efficiency of photoinduced electron–hole pairs due to the broadening of the valence band (VB) induced by surface oxygen-vacancy states, and the extending of photoresponse is considered to be the narrowing of energy band gap resulting from the rise of the valence band maximum (VBM).
Photocatalytic Reduction of CO 2 with Water Vapor on Surface La-modified TiO 2 Nanoparticles with Enhanced CH 4 Selectivity

Abstract:Surface La-modified TiO2 nanoparticle samples were prepared by a simple sol-gel method. The structure and properties of the catalysts were characterized and analyzed by means of XRD, TEM, BET, UV-vis DRS, CO2-TPD, XPS, Raman and Theoretical Calculation. The most La3+ was found to deposit onto the TiO2 in the form of La2O3 particles, and a tiny number of La atoms modify TiO2 by substituting the surface Ti atom in the form of Ti-O-La, leading to the generation of oxygen vacancies and Ti3+ for balancing the charge. The La-modified TiO2 photocatalysts were investigated in the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 with water vapor under the 300 W Xe arc lamp irradiation. The La-modified TiO2 showed high CH4 yield of 3.457 mu mol under 20 h light irradiation, which is 13 times of that over commercial P25.
