Abstract:These years,public diplomacy has been increasingly emphasized by the scholars,government officials,journalists and even businessmen domestically and internationally so that it becomes a hot topic among the developments of humanities and social sciences.The reason why public diplomacy is regarded as hot issue is fundamentally determined by the combination of social changes of globalization of diplomacy and China’s unexpected rise and disciplinary changes of multidiscipline and cross-discipline trend on studying specific issue in humanities and social sciences.So,the rise of public diplomacy identifies that it deeply conforms to the objective trend of inter-disciplines in contemporary social sciences and has strong vitality and bright future.However,the disciplinary foundation of public diplomacy still lags behind the reality.There are lots of theoretical challenges in clarifying the research focus,research paradigm and methodology for public diplomacy when we review the debates among the scholars.And there are still severe divergences of essential views on public diplomacy globally.Therefore,the disciplinary development will be the top priority in public diplomacy studies,which is necessary to establish the guideline of taking discipline building as center on public diplomacy studies which means grasp the inter-disciplinary structure,consolidate the theoretical foundations and strengthen the curriculum system and social community for public diplomacy.
