Abstract:In this paper, a new finite-time stability (FTS) concept, which is defined as admissible finite-time stability (AFTS), is introduced into a class of discrete-time singular systems with time-varying delays. The problems of AFTS analysis and synthesis are addressed. A sufficient condition for the AFTS of the unforced discrete-time singular time-delay system is proposed. Based on the AFTS analysis result, a state feedback controller is designed such that the resulting closed-loop system is admissibly finite-time stable. Both the AFTS and the controller design conditions are provided in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) with some fixed parameters. Two numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed theory.

Abstract:This paper addresses the asynchronous finite-time H ∞ control problem for a class of nonlinear switched time-delay systems via state-feedback controller. Firstly, by using the Average Dwell Time (ADT) method and the Multiple Lyapunov functions (MLFs) theory, we provide some delay-dependent sufficient conditions which can guarantee the corresponding closed-loop system be finite-time stable. Secondly we further propose the design of asynchronous switched state-feedback controller which makes the corresponding closed-loop system be finite-time bounded with a prescribed H ∞ performance. At last, two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:This paper considers the problem of exact controllability of linear control systems with compact semigroup in non-reflexive state spaces and control spaces. The weak convergence of bounded sequence of control functions with respect to the subspace of the dual space is studied and a lemma for the weak convergence is proved. Based on the lemma and the strong separation theorem, a necessary and sufficient condition for exact controllability of compact semigroups with respect to the space consisting all essentially bounded measurable functions is obtained. An example of heat equation is presented to illustrate the utility of the result. Some related problems remaining for further study are addressed.

Abstract:In this paper,exact controllability and exact null controllability of infinite di- mensional linear systems are considered in non-reflexive state space and reflexive control space.For the systems governed by C-semigroups,the criteria for exact controllability and exact null controllability via controls in LP([O,T],U),1<p≤∞are obtained.For the sys- tems governed by C_0-semigroups,the authors also get a necessary and sufficient condition for exact null controllability via controls in L~P([O,T],U),1<p≤∞.Two applications are given to illustrate the abstract results.

Abstract:In this paper, we present some properties of time optimal controls for linear ODEs with the ball-type control constraint. More precisely, for an optimal control, we build up an upper bound for the number of its switching points; show that it jumps from one direction to the reverse direction at each switching point; give its dynamic behaviour between two consecutive switching points; and study its switching directions.

Abstract:This paper deals with a class of time inconsistent stochastic linear quadratic optimal control problems in Markovian framework. Three notions, i.e., closed-loop equilibrium strategies, open-loop equilibrium controls and open-loop equilibrium strategies, are characterized in unified manners. These results indicate clearer and deeper distinctions among these notions. For example, in particular time consistent setting, the open-loop equilibrium controls are fully characterized by first-order, second-ordernecessaryoptimalityconditions, and are not optimal in general, while the closed-loop equilibrium controls naturally reduce into closed-loopoptimalcontrols.

Abstract:In this paper, we study two subjects on internally controlled heat equations with time varying potentials: the attainable subspaces and the bang-bang property for some time optimal control problems. We present some equivalent characterizations on the attainable subspaces and provide a sufficient condition to ensure the bang-bang property. Both the above-mentioned characterizations and the sufficient condition are closely related to some function spaces consisting of some solutions to the adjoint equations. It seems for us that the existing ways to derive the bang-bang property for heat equations with time-invariant potentials (see, for instance, [H. O. Fattorini, Infinite Dimensional Linear Control Systems: The Time Optimal and Norm Optimal Problems, Elsevier, Amsterdam 2005], [F. Gozzi and P. Loreti, SIAM J. Control Optim., 37 (1999), pp. 1195-1221], [V. Mizel and T. Seidman, SIAM J. Control Optim., 35 (1997), pp. 1204-1216], and [G. Wang, SIAM J. Control Optim., 47 (2008), pp. 1701-1720]) do not work for the case where the potentials are time varying. We provide another way to approach it in the current paper.

Abstract:We study linear quadratic optimal control problems for stochastic evolution equations in an infinite horizon with constant coefficients. We first give a characterization of the non-emptiness of the admissible control set for all initial states by an operator-valued algebraic Lyapunov equation. Then we demonstrate the equivalence between the existence of an optimal control with suitable a prori bound and the existence of an optimal feedback control. This stands in contrast to the stochastic linear quadratic optimal control problems in a finite time horizon. Finally, we prove that the optimal feedback control can be determined via a generalized operator-valued algebraic Riccati equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the ℋ∞ control problem for nonlinear differential-algebraic equations (DAE). Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of a controller solving the problem. We first give various sufficient conditions for the solvability of ℋ∞ control problem for DAE. Both state feedback and output feedback cases are considered. Then, necessary conditions for the output feedback control problem to be solvable are obtained in terms of two Hamilton-Jacobi inequalities plus a weak coupling condition. Moreover, a parameterization of a family of output feedback controllers solving the problem is also provided

Abstract:We consider bounded extremum seeking controls for time-varying linear systems with uncertain coefficient matrices and measurement uncertainty. Using a new change of variables, Lyapunov functions, and a comparison principle, we provide semiglobal exponential stability bounds for the states of the closed loop systems that hold for all nonnegative times. For the first time, we consider bounded extremum seeking controls in the presence of constant input delays and for linear time-varying systems with unknown control directions, and we provide reduction model controllers for quantifying the effects of the delays.

Abstract:The controllability for switched linear system with time-delay in controls was first investigated. The whole work contains three parts. This is the first part, including problem formulation and some preliminaries. Firstly, the mathematical model of switched linear systems with time-delay in control functions was presented. Secondly, the concept of column space, cyclic invariant subspace and generalized cyclic invariant subspace were introduced. And some basic properties, such as separation lemma, were presented. Finally, a basic lemma was given to reveal the relation between the solution set of a centain integral equations and the generalized cyclic invariant subspace. This lemma will play an important role in the determination of controllability. All these definitions and lemmas are necessary research tools for controllability analysis.

Abstract:Finite-time boundedness and H∞ finite-time boundedness of switched linear systems with time-varying delay and exogenous disturbances are addressed. Based on average dwell time (ADT) and free-weight matrix technologies, sufficient conditions which can ensure finite-time boundedness and H∞ finite-time boundedness are given. And then in virtue of the results on finite-time boundedness, the state memory feedback controller is designed to H∞ finite-time stabilize a time-delay switched system. These conditions are given in terms of LMIs and are delay-dependent. An example is given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this technical note, the near-optimal control problem is investigated for a class of time-varying linear discrete systems subject to additive nonlinearities and random gains. First, certain upper bound on the cost function is proposed to quantify the control performance. Subsequently, in virtue of the time-varying discrete Riccati-like recursions (DRLRs), the near-optimal control strategy is designed such that this upper bound is minimized over the finite horizon. To reflect the steady-state behavior of the dynamic system, the upper bound of the derived time-varying DRLRs is also analyzed over the infinite horizon by resorting to the semidefinite programming method. Finally, a numerical example is provided to verify the validity and advantages of the proposed methodology.

Abstract:In this paper, several different concepts of controllability are investigated for a class of linear singular systems which system parameters are piecewise constant. Necessary and sufficient geometric criteria for C-controllability and R-controllability of such systems are established, respectively. These conditions can be easily transformed into algebraic form. By applying the principle of duality, C-observability is discussed as well. Furthermore, the intrinsic relationship between these results and existing results are also discussed. Then, a novel necessary, and sufficient criterion for C-controllability of linear time-invariant singular systems is derived as a byproduct.
