Abstract:In an intelligent industrial production, health monitoring and management is widely applied in modern machinery. As one of the most vital parts in modern machinery in this context, bearing and its health monitoring has drawn increased attention. However, constructing an expected indicator to assess bearing performance degradation reliably is a great challenge. In this study, an unsupervised feature learning-based method called feature-difference sparse filtering (FDSF) is proposed to detect slight defects. FDSF can learn impulsive components from observed vibration signals and tense a new feature space. Feature space satisfies the properties of population and lifetime sparsity. Based on these features, a novel indicator named CS-FDSF is further constructed to evaluate bearing health state. The proposed method is validated by experimental cases of bearing full life test data sets from intelligent maintenance systems. Results indicate that CS-FDSF can find initial failure points and predict residual useful life of bearings. Furthermore, a high Spearman coefficient shows its excellent overall monotonicity when bearing degrades.
