Abstract:We found that photoexcitation-generated excited states could simultaneously enhance electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient. In the article, we utilized the PCBM and MEH-PPV good thermoelectric properties and solubility in ortheodichlorobenzene to fabricating the PCBM-doped MEH-PPV thermoelectric devices. For the doping MEH-PPV sample, we found that PCBM-doped MEH-PPV could greatly enhance MEH-PPV's electrical conductivity from 0.23x10(-8) S/cm to 6.01x10(-7) S/cm, but the Seebeck coefficient was decreased from 90 mu V/K to 31 mu V/K at 147 degrees C in dark condition. Under photoexcitation, the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient were both increased, the electrical conductivity was increased from 0.91x10(-5) S/cm under dark to 3.69x10(-4) S/cm under illumination condition, Seebeck coefficient was also increased from 31 mu V/K under the dark to 205 mu V/K under illumination at 147 degrees C. We considered these results attributed to two reasons. One was the increase of excited state's density could increase the charge carrier mobility and made contribution to the electrical conductivity. Another was the charge carrier concentration was decrease by the interface charge accumulate and recombined action leading to the Seebeck coefficient was increased. Our study further explained that photoexcitation-generated excited states why could improve the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient for the development of high-performance nanometer thin-film thermoelectric devices.
