Abstract:The microstructure and electro-magnetic properties of simultaneous Ba doping for Sr and Co doping for Ru in SrRuO3 have been carefully investigated. All the doped samples exhibit the same orthorhombic Pnma structure as the pure bulk SrRuO3, although introducing some local structural modifications due to the ionic radius mismatch at Sr/Ru-site. A maximum of 2.2% negative magnetoresistance and much suppressed Curie temperature are found for the most insulating Ba and Co co-doped Sr0.88Ba0.12Ru0.88Co0.12O3 sample. The substitution induced A-site disorder, B-site ion dilution, structural distortion and the intrinsic nature of cobalt ion etc. are jointly considered to explain the observed interesting phenomena.

Abstract:Single-phase polycrystalline Sr2Ru1-xCoxO4 are successfully synthesized by conventional solid-state method with doping content up to x = 0.25. Ferrimagnetism develops among the incommensurate antiferromagnetic fluctuations in the doped compounds. An abnormal coercivity-temperature relation at a high doping level (x > 0.10), in which the samples have smaller coercive field at low temperature than that at high temperature, i.e., H-C(5 K) < H-C(50 K), is observed. The Curie-Weiss temperature shows the negative value for all samples, and the susceptibility increases with Co doping content x. The exchange bias effect is detected in magnetic hysteresis loops. A three-dimensional transport property has been derived based on the variable rang hopping theory, indicating a thermally assisted hopping of electrons between the localized states.

Abstract:The structural, magnetic and transport properties of EuSr2Ru1-xNbxCu2O8 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5) samples have been investigated by means of x-ray diffraction, magnetization and resistance measurements. It is found that the EuSr2RuCu2 O8 compound exhibits a ferromagnetic order of the Ru moments below the Curie temperature of 130.19 K, and becomes superconducting at a much lower critical temperature of 10 K. The experimental observation that partial substitution of Nb for Ru in this system results in the decrease of the Curie temperature further supports the idea that the ferromagnetic order involves only Ru moments in this compound. We suggest that the decrease of the superconducting critical temperature Tc due to the partial substitution of Nb for Ru originates from the decrease of the carrier concentration in the CuO2 plane because of Nb existing always in the Nb5+ valence state while Ru is in a mixed valence state between Ru4+ and Ru5+. The coexistence of ferromagnetism and superconductivity is also discussed.

Abstract:The perovskite oxide La_ 1-xSr_xCoO_3 ( 0≤x≤0.5) series were prepared under different sintering conditions. Crystal structure was determined by powder X-ray diffraction and lattice parameters as a function of Sr-concentration x were obtained by using Rietveld method. The dc resistivity investigated in the temperature range of 80～300 K indicates that the electric properties exhibit a metallic-insulator (semiconducting) (M-I) transition for 0.2<x<0.3. The samples with x=0.2 is close to the M-I transition boundary. The influence of sintering conditions on the lattice parameters, resistivity and the ferromagnetic phase transition temperature T_C of La_ 1-xSr_xCoO_3 for the cases x=0.2 and 0.5 was discussed. The change of the electric properties of semiconductor-like sample (x=0.2) with sintering temperature and sintering period is just opposite to that of metallic sample (x=0.5). Annealing in flowing oxygen can decrease the resistivity of semiconductor-like sample.

Abstract:Magnetism of materials may be adjusted by varying the adjacent magnetic ions in materials, such as Ru 4+ in SrRuO 3 . We here report a study of the structure, electro-transport and magnetic properties of poly-crystallized SrRu x O 3 , which is synthesized by solid-state reaction. Results show that all the synthesized SrRu x O 3 samples remain the single phase, and the grain size increases with increasing the Ru content. A semiconducting behavior with x ≤ 1 and a Fermi Liquid behavior with x > 1 are observed and determined. At 10 K, the saturated magnetic moment increases with x from 21.02 to 29.82 (emu/g), while the coercivity decreases from 5100 to 910 (Oe), which are also confirmed by the first principle calculations.

Abstract:Polycrystalline samples LaBa2Cu3−xCo x O y (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) were synthesized by solid state reaction method. The structure, phonon vibration, conduction, and spin correlation were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, infrared spectra, resistivity, and electron spin resonance. It is found that there are orthorhombic–tetragonal and tetragonal–orthorhombic structural transitions with Co doping, and the conduction behavior changes from metallic to semiconducting. With the increase of Co content, the Cu(1)—O(1) phonon mode around 531 cm−1 softens, the Cu(2)—O(2) phonon mode around 657 cm−1 hardens, and the Cu(1)—O(4) mode around 583 cm−1 is nearly unchanged. The Cu2+ spins tend to localize with Co doping. The changes in structure, phonon vibration, and spin correlation with Co doping are analyzed and discussed.

Abstract:The measurements of structure, resistivity, and magnetic properties were carried out for Na_ 0.75 Co_ 1-x Ru_ x O_ 2 (0x0.5)samples, which were prepared by a solid state reaction method. It is found that the unit cell parameter a and c values increase monotonously with the increasing Ru partial concentration, which indicates that the partial substitution of Ru for Co in Na_ 0.75 Co_ 1-x Ru_ x O_ 2 system is uniform and the structure of Na_ 0.75 Co_ 1-x Ru_ x O_ 2 (0x 0.5)samples remain thatin the γphaseof Na_ 0.75 CoO_ 2 . The partial substitution of Ru for Co results in a remarkable increase in resistivity for this system. For the x0 sample, the temperature dependence of resistivity, ρ(T), shows a metallic behavior in all the measuring temperature range. For the x0.01 sample, the ρ(T) relationship shows a metal-insulator (MI) transition around 37K. All the samples with x0.02 are semiconductor in all the measuring temperature range. Compared with the un-doped sample, the resistivity of x0.1 sample increases more than 5 orders in magnitude at 30 K. It is suggested that the MI transition near x0.01 in Na_ 0.75 Co_ 1-x Ru_ x O_2 system may be attribute to the Anderson electron localization in CoO_2 sheet due to the disorder. For all the Na_ 0.75 Co_ 1-x Ru_ x O_ 2 (0x 0.5)samples, no long-range magnetic order has been detected down to 2K, and the temperaturedependence of susceptibility above 100 K can be fitted using Curie-Weiss law. The susceptibility results for this system have been discussed in detail.

Abstract:We have studied the structural, magnetic, and electronic transport properties of (Sr0.9Ca0.1)3Ru2O7 using single crystals grown by a floating-zone technique. The structure analysis by Rietveld refinements reveals that the Ca substitution for Sr intensifies the structure distortion; the rotation angle of the RuO6 octahedron increases. This structure change tunes magnetic and transport properties dramatically. The magnetic ground state switches from an itinerant metamagnetic state for Sr3Ru2O7 to a nearly ferromagnetic state for (Sr0.9Ca0.1)3Ru2O7. The Fermi liquid behavior occurs in Sr3Ru2O7, but is suppressed in (Sr0.9Ca0.1)3Ru2O7. These results strongly suggest that lattice, spin, and charge degrees of freedom are strongly coupled in this system. The band width narrowing caused by the structure distortion should be responsible for the enhancement of ferromagnetic correlations and the change of transport properties.

Abstract:Cobalt substitution effects in the single phase spin ladder compounds Sr14-xCaxCu24-yCoyO41 was studied. The crystal structure, the resistivity and the thermoelectric power change with various values y(Co) were researched. All lattice parameters of Sr14-xCaxCu24-yCoyO41 increase almost linearly with the increase in y(Co). T dependence of the electrical resistivity of all samples is semiconducting. The value of the resistivity increases with the increase of cobalt concentration. The resistivities can be fit by the thermal active equation rho = rho(0) exp(Delta/k(B)T) except for the sample of x=9, y=0. Through thermoelectric power measurements, we find that the sample of x=9, y=0 exhibit metallic behavior while the others exhibit semiconductive behavior. Cobalt substitution induces disorder and electron. Lattice constants increasing make the holes transfer from the better conductive spin ladder to the chain. Those lead to the increase of activation energy, resistivity, and thermoelectric power.

Abstract:Polycrystalline samples of LaBa2Cu3−xLixOy (0⩽x⩽0.7) and La1+xBa2−xCu3−xLixOy (0⩽x⩽0.7) were synthesized by the solid-state reaction method. The structure and physical properties were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), resistivity, infrared (IR) transmission spectra and electronic spin resonance (ESR). With Li doping, an orthorhombic–tetragonal transition takes place as 0.3<x⩽0.5. While for La1+xBa2−xCu3−xLixOy, the system remains orthorhombic structure within the entire doping range. Li doping and Li, La co-doping induce charge redistribution in the two systems and the single Li doping causes Cu2+ spins to localize, especially for the x⩾0.5 samples. The changes of the IR and ESR spectra are analysed and discussed in detail.

Abstract:The investigations on the structure, magnetic and transport properties were carried out for the double perovskite Sr2Fe1-xCoxMoO6 samples prepared by the solid state reaction method. It is found that the relationship between resistivity and temperature changes from a typical half-metal behavior to a semiconductor behavior, with the increasing substitution concentration x value of Co for Fe. The resistivity at room temperature increases from 3.9×10-5Ω·cm (for the x=0 sample) to 6.0×10-1Ω·cm (for the x=1.0 sample). The magnetic order in the sample changes from a ferrimagnetic to an antiferromagnetic and the magnetic transition temperature TN decreases with the increasing Co content x. The magnetoresistance effect is depressed by the Co partial substitution for Fe. The origin of magnetoresistance and the Co substitution effect were discussed in detail based on the analysis of electronic structure of Sr2Fe1-xCoxMoO6 system.

Abstract:Here, equal numbers of La and Mn ions are successfully introduced simultaneously in SrRuO3. With increasing La/Mn doping, all compositions crystallize in Pnma with the lattice constant, together with the RuO 6 octahedral distortion, decreases. Ferromagnetism-to-spin glass magnetic behavior is observed at x ≥ 0.23. A metal–insulator transition (MIT) occurs at lower temperatures, resulting from the disordering of the metal mixture in the lattice. The retraction of the RuO 6 octahedron increases the overlap of the Ru t 2g –O 2p orbitals and broadens the Ru 4d bandwidth, leading to weaker electron–electron interactions, which may decrease the electronic and thermal conductivity.

Abstract:The geometric and electronic properties of SrCoO2.5 have been studied using the local-spin density approximation together with the Hubbard method. The geometric optimization shows that the energy of a unit supercell for SrCoO2.5 with the space group Pnma is at least 1.37 eV lower than the others, so we infer that the Pnma structure is the ground state of SrCoO2.5 at low temperature. The electronic band structure calculations demonstrate that the paramagnetic ordering SrCoO2.5 at high temperature has the character of an indirect band gap semiconductor, while the antiferromagnetic ordering SrCoO2.5 at low temperature has the character of a conductor. The magnetism calculation shows that the magnetic moment of Co is 2.96 mu(B), comparable with the experimental measurement at the liquid nitrogen temperature, i.e. 3.30 +/- 0.5 mu(B).

Abstract:The structure, magnetization, and electrical transport of perovskite cobaltites La0.7Sr0.3Co1-yNiyO3 have been studied. It is found that the substitution of Ni for Co induces no apparent changes in bond length and angle in the Co(Ni)-O network, and only moderately suppresses the ferromagnetism. Moreover, a retention of the metallic conduction has been observed from y=0 to 0.2, which is in strong contrast to the reported insulating state of the other Co site doped La0.7Sr0.3CoO3. A double-exchange-like interaction between Ni ion and its neighboring Co ion is suggested to explain the experimental results. (C) 2002 American Institute of Physics.
Ordered phase transformation and Cu doping effects in room-temperature ferromagnetic Sr3YCo4O10.5+ δ

Abstract:Sr3YCo4O10.5+δ (314-SYCO), with an unusual ordered structure and a high Curie temperature (Tc ≈ 335 K), is attracting increasing attention. Herein, to improve the electrical performance of 314-SYCO, Cu-doped Sr3YCo4-x Cu x O10.5+δ (x = 0-0.8) ceramics were prepared using a solid-state reaction method. Systematic research was conducted on both the ordered phase transformation and the effects of Cu doping on the microstructure, electrical transport characteristics, and magnetic properties. For x = 0-0.4, the (103) and (215) planes were observed and combined with Rietveld refinement results for the X-ray diffraction data, confirming the formation of ordered tetragonal Sr3YCo4-x Cu x O10.5+δ . This phase was formed with a mass gain of ∼0.8% and heat released at ∼1,042°C. With increasing Cu content, the concentration of hole carriers also increased, leading to a substantial reduction in electrical resistivity. The electrical resistivity decreased by 92-99% at 300 K. The polycrystalline materials have semiconducting behaviour with a three-dimensional Mott variable-range hopping mechanism. For the magnetic properties, a Hopkinson peak was observed at 319 K, and the Tc was approximately 321 K for x = 0. The magnetisation and Tc decreased with increasing Cu content, and a G-type antiferromagnetic-to-ferromagnetic phase transition occurred due to the spin state change for some Co3+ ions from high/intermediate spin to low/intermediate spin. These results lay the groundwork for refinement of the sintering procedure and doping parameters to enhance the performance of 314-SYCO in the context of current applications such as microwave absorbers and solid oxide fuel cell cathodes.

Abstract:Single phase of La1−xSrxCoO3 (LSCO) with 0.1≤x≤0.4 have been prepared by the solid-state reaction method. All samples have the R3¯c symmetry. There is no phase transition detected at the temperature range from 10 to 300K. The variations of the local bond-lengths of CoO in CoO6 octahedron and lattice parameter ar confirm that hole-doping stabilize the intermediate-spin (IS) state of Co ions. The magnetic phase diagram is well understood in terms of phase separation scenario. Qualitatively, hole-rich ferromagnetic (FM) clusters increasing in size and number with the increase in the concentration of Sr at the expensive of non-FM insulating matrix, and percolating at the vicinity of 0.15, are suggested to explain the onset of FM order and insulator–metal transition. In addition, the values of effective paramagnetic moment μeff also strongly prove the presence of IS spin state of Co in our system. Very small magnetoresistance (MR), 5% with 3T magnetic field applied, is obtained. This MR response indicates that a distinct mechanism is likely to dominate in LSCO compared to that in mixed-valence manganites.

Abstract:Electrical resistance, thermoelectric power, dc magnetization, ac susceptibility, and electron spin resonance (ESR) are investigated for the polycrystalline Nd1-xSr1+xCoO4 (x=0.25, 0.33, and 0.60). Powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) confirms that these compounds crystallize in K2NiF4-type structure with space group I4/mmm. The specimens exhibit ferromagnetic and semiconducting behaviors. With Sr doping, the lattice parameter c increases, the cusp intensity related to spin-glass states weakens, and the ferromagnetic property intensifies. The transport mechanisms in high temperature range obey Arrhenius law and might be understood by small polaron models. The magnetic properties present spin-glass states at similar to 18 K and Griffiths singularity at similar to 210 K.
