However, its impact on patients' HRQoL remains elusive. This study aimed to longitudinally compare the HRQoL during the first year following IUR and identified prognostic factors predicting HRQoL improvement. METHODS: We prospectively conducted a multi-center study with patients underwent IUR for extensive ureteral stricture (US) between April 2020 and July 2022. Patients were invited to self-complete the Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire to evaluate HRQoL before surgery, 6-mo and 12-mo postoperatively. A significant improvement in HRQoL was considered as the follow-up scores that improved by more than 10 points compared with baseline scores. RESULTS: Overall, 82 consecutive patients were included. The mean age was 44.6 years with 52 (63.4%) being female. Although patients with US presented significantly poor baseline HRQoL, there was a remarkable improvement following IUR. Specifically, both the 6-mo and 12-mo postoperative scores were significantly improved compared with baseline in all domains. Moreover, 45.5-79.2% of patients achieved significant improvement in different domains within 12 months postoperatively. Furthermore, some patients' characteristics (gender, age, body mass index, live area, education status, presenting symptom, surgical approach, anxiety and depression level, etc) were prognostic factors for significant improvement in HRQoL postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: Patients underwent IUR reported profound improvement in HRQoL within 12 months. Certain patient features and clinical variables predicted significant improvement in HRQoL postoperatively. These satisfactory outcomes provided by IUR further support it as a valuable procedure for complex ureteral reconstruction.
