Abstract:A facile and fast microwave-assisted approach without any other pre/post-treatment has been proposed to hydrothermally synthesize six kinds of MFI-type heteroatom (Mn, Ga, Ti, Sn, Cr, Zr) zeolites. By comparing with oven heating mode, it is found that microwave field displays a positive effect on the introduction of partial heteroatoms in the zeolite framework. Moreover, differing from the conventional heating, microwave irradiation displays different influences on the different heteroatom zeolites because different heteroatoms cause different polarities and wave-absorption abilities of M-O bonds under microwave irradiation. Furthermore, this positive effect of microwave is embodied not only on heteroatom zeolite synthesis and heteroatom state in zeolite framework but also the resultant catalytic performance. This finding provides an easy route for the synthesis of novel heteroatom zeolite being difficult to prepare by conventional mode, along with a new direction for the exploration of microwave effect.

These materials display several interesting physicochemical properties including lower packing density and higher hydrophobicity than their nonfibrous counterparts, and as a result, enhanced catalytic properties and increased shape‐selective adsorption.

Abstract:The synthesis of mordenite zeolite crystals by microwave heating (MH) was investigated and compared with the case by conventional heating (CH). It was found that microwave heating could not only accelerate the formation rate of mordenite crystals, but also enhance purity and surface areas of the crystals as compared with conventional heating. Highly crystalline and pure mordenite crystals were obtained after hydrothermal synthesis of only 6 h at 190 degrees C by microwave heating, whereas pure mordenite crystals could not be obtained even after hydrothermal treatment of 72 h at the same temperature by conventional heating. PREPARATION OF B-Oriented MFI ZEOLITE FILMS BY MICROWAVE HEATING

Abstract:Continuous b-oriented MFI zeolite films were synthesized on stainless steel substrates by a two-stage microwave heating.The comparisons of microwave heating and convectional heating,one-stage microwave heating and two-stage microwave heating were carried out.The influence of the molar composition of synthesis solution on the synthesis of the zeolite film with two-stage microwave heating was also investigated.Compared with convectional heating,the crystal growth rate was accelerated greatly by microwave heating.The microwave-assisted aging at relative low temperature could accelerate the nucleation.Large crystals of zeolite could be obtained by prolonging the crystallization duration,and the nuclei concentration increased with the decrease of water content,both of which improved the continuity of the synthesized continuous b-oriented MFI zeolite film.

Abstract:Zeolites are an emerging class of crystalline, nanoporous, inorganic material with regular micropores and highly tunable functionalities. Zeolites have been proposed as ideal materials for applications in catalysis, adsorption, and biomedicine due to their notable intrinsic features such as accessible void space, large surface area, and strong acidity. Microwave radiation is a robust technology that can quickly and efficiently prepare uniform and controllable zeolites that enable remarkable functions. We first review the current research progress in, and the fabrication of, zeolites using microwave technologies, and the related application. After a brief introduction to microwave theory and modification of zeolites, the discussion focuses on the five main microwave technologies for the synthesis of zeolites, that include microwave irradiation, microwave assisted hydrothermal synthesis, microwave assisted aging synthesis, microwave assisted ionothermal synthesis, and other microwave related methods. Some critical applications such as catalysis (NOx reduction, CO2 reduction, and Fenton), gas sensing and CO2 capture, and biomedicine are selected and discussed in detail. Finally, a summary and perspectives on research that may lead to the future development of this blossoming field.

Abstract:Microstructural manipulation has been proven to remarkably affect the performance of zeolite membranes/films in separation and catalysis. Accordingly, intensive research and significant progress have been achieved in the last decades on the microstructural manipulation of zeolite films/membranes. From the literature, various factors including supports, seed layer, growth methods, synthesis solution, crystallization condition, and post-treatment can result in the different microstructures of zeolite films/membranes including morphology, orientation, thickness, and composition of the dense layer. This review attempts to summarize the obtained progress in microstructural manipulation of MFI-type zeolite films/membranes and their relationship with the separation performance. Some key topics are detailed and discussed, including (1) controllable synthesis of orientated zeolite films/membranes; (2) rational design and synthesis of zeolite films/membranes with ultrathin separation layer; (3) construction of asymmetric zeolite membranes; (4) architectural design of zeolite films/membranes at the microscopic level (heteroatoms substituted zeolite films/membranes); (5) the challenges and strategies in scaling-up of zeolite film/membrane production. Concluding remarks and perspectives are also suggested in the end.

Abstract:Influences of aging and crystallization conditions on the continuity of b-oriented MFI zeolite films on stainless steel substrates are systematically investigated. A long aging time (e.g., 20 h) at room temperature is needed to obtain a continuous b-oriented MFI zeolite film by the microwave heating at 165 °C. However, the aging time can be shortened from 20 h to 30 min by elevating the aging temperature to 80 °C. Compared with the conventional heating (2 h), continuous b-oriented MFI zeolite films are prepared on stainless steel substrates with a much shorter crystallization time by the microwave heating (35 min). Continuous b-oriented MFI zeolite films can be synthesized by controlling nuclei concentration and crystal size, which are mainly determined by the conditions of the aging and crystallization respectively. On the basis of the results from these experiments, a film continuity−synthesis condition map is obtained and a film formation mechanism is discussed.

Abstract:Ferrierite zeolite (FER) was synthesized under microwave conditions while varying the microwave exposure time from 6 to 12 h. For comparison, commercial FER and a FER zeolite synthesized by the conventional hydrothermal synthesis (72 h) were studied. The structure, texture, and acidic properties of the samples were investigated by XRD, low-temperature N 2 adsorption, ICP-AES, SEM, and DRIFT spectroscopy using adsorption of CO, CD 3 CN and pyridine as probe molecules. The catalytic characteristics of the obtained zeolites were studied in the cyclocondensation reaction of 1,2-phenylenediamine and acetone to produce 1,5-benzodiazepine. The activity of the zeolites in this reaction was found to increase with increasing microwave exposure time. The FER-MW sample synthesized in 12 h showed the best results.

Abstract:ZnAl2O4-Mg2TiO4-CaTiO3 ceramics were prepared by the solid-state reaction. The effects of CaTiO3 on phase compositions, microstructure and microwave dielectric properties were investigated. It shows that CaTiO3 can effectively improve the sinterability of the ceramics and lower the densification temperature by about 150 degrees C. ZnAl2O4-based spinel, CaTiO3, MgTi2O5 and Zn2Ti3O8 phases are included in the ZnA(2)O(4)-Mg2TiO4-CaTiO3 system, however, Zn2Ti3O8 phase disappears when the sintering temperature is higher than 1400 degrees C. As CaTiO3 content increases, CaTiO3 phase in the sintered body raises while MgTi2O5 phase reduces. Furthermore, CaTiO3 can adjust obviously the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of the (1-x)ZnAl2O4-xMg(2)TiO(4)(x = 0.21) ceramics. When 6mol% CaTiO3 is added to the (1-x)ZnAl2O4--xMg(2)TiO(4) (x = 0.21) system, a temperature-stable microwave dielectric ceramics sintered at 1400 degrees C with an epsilon(r) of 11.8, a Q center dot f of 88080GHz and a tau(f) of - 7.8 x 10(-6)/degrees C can be obtained.

Abstract:Flaky Fe-Si-Al magnetic fine powders were synthesized by annealing as well as mechanical ball-milling with the gas-atomized Fe-Si-Al(Fe5.5Si9.5Al) alloy powder as raw material.The effects of annealing on the microwave electromagnetic properties of the Fe-Si-Al magnetic powders were investigated.The results show that: Fe-Si-Al magnetic powders with superior magnetic properties and regular flake shape can be obtained by mechanically ball-milling the raw material.Mechanical ball-milling significantly increases the permeability of Fe-Si-Al powder in the low frequency microwave band,while annealing further adjusts the permeability of the powder.Moreover,the permeability of Fe-Si-Al powder can be further enhanced by annealing the raw material.The real part(μ′) and imaginary part(μ″) of the permeability of the prepared flaky Fe-Si-Al magnetic powders reach 5.09 and 3.65,respectively.

Abstract:This work reports a successful achievement for constructing mosaic-tiling MFI zeolite (MT-MFI) mesocrystal with an oriented alignment of 20 nm crystallite domains, and the enhanced catalytic performance for different diffusion-limited reactions is achieved on such a MT-MFI zeolite, which is obviously superior to the conventional MFI zeolite. Furthermore, an unusual nonclassical crystallization mechanism with constant disintegration and attachment of large wormlike particles is circumstantiated for its formation process. Such a tiling scenario for MFI domains not only endows the material with a remarkable catalytic performance but also provides an alternative strategy for constructing zeolite with distinctive morphology and architecture.

Abstract:In the present work, a microwave-assisted two-step hydrothermal procedure was proposed successfully to prepare various zeolite nanocrystals (e.g., silicalite-1, ZSM-5, LTL, BEA and LTA) with controllable size, morphology and SiO2/Al2O3 ratio. The effects of the starting gel composition (such as water content, alkalinity and ratio of SiO2/Al2O3) as well as the hydrothermal synthesis condition (temperature and time) on the size of the zeolite nanocrystals have been studied in detail. It is found that high synthesis temperature and long reaction time benefit the growth of all the referred zeolite nanocrystals. However, the effects of the gel composition are very complex to different kinds of nanozeolites. For the nanozeolites crystallized in low alkalinity systems (e.g., ZSM-5, BEA and LTA), both increasing the alkalinity and decreasing the water content accelerate their nucleation process and thereby result in the decrease of their crystal size. On the contrary, for those prepared in high alkalinity systems (e.g., LTL and silicalite-1), an inversed trend could be observed. Moreover, the change of SiO2/Al2O3 ratio in the starting gel greatly affects the size of nanozeolite ZSM-5 and LTL, but slightly influences that of nanozeolite BEA. These results would provide a solid foundation to fully exploit the traditional and untraditional applications of various nanozeolites.

Abstract:The sintering process and phase transformation of submicrometer powder compacts of TiO 2 were investigated using 2.45 GHz microwave radiation. The microwave-sintered samples were densified more rapidly and at much shorter time and lower temperature than that of the conventionally sintered samples. Also, an accelerated phase transformation from anatase to rutile was observed in microwave processing when the dwell time is cut down from 6 h in conventional to 30 min in microwave at 1000 °C. The samples sintered in microwave show a refined microstructure and smaller grain sizes at high density near 98–99% theoretical. In addition, the reasons for rapidly heating behavior and enhanced sintering on TiO 2 in microwave are discussed.

Abstract:The manipulating of crystal form and morphology for MFI zeolite has always been a crucial aspect in the research of zeolite. The strategies for the morphology control of single crystal zeolite, nanozeolite, zeolite with core-shell structure and/or special orientations (including oriented MFI membrane and oriented MFI zeolite crystal) are reviewed. The effect of template, surfactant, synthesis conditions and methods on the morphology of MFI zeolite has been described in detail. Furthermore, a brief outlook of the potential development of MFI zeolite morphology control is given.

Abstract:In this work, we report a facile and low-cost approach for controllable preparation of hierarchical mesoporous MFI zeolites via simply manipulating the Si/Al ratio in the initial synthetic precursor. The results demonstrate that Si/Al ratio significantly influences not only the acidity but also the pore structure as well as morphology of MFI zeolites. With the increase of Si/Al ratio, the mesoporous structures are weakened due to the increasingly severe crystal fusion leading to the formation of bulk zeolite crystal and the acid amounts decrease as well. The optimal sample Z-55 with spherical morphology is composed of numerous superfine nanocrystals. These primary results are quite beneficial to guiding reasonable design of the zeolites with other topologies. In LDPE cracking, the sample Z-55 with tri-modal mesopores distributions performs enhanced catalytic activity compared with convention MFI zeolite and the T50 is reduced to 391 °C, mainly ascribed to the luxuriant mesoporous structures.

Abstract:Studies in the last decade suggest that microwave energy may have a unique ability to influence chemical processes.These include chemical and materials syntheses as well as separations.Specifically,recent studies have documented a significantly reduced time for mixed oxide nanoparticles and mesoporous molecular sieves by employing microwave energy.By reducing the times by over an order of magnitude,continuous production would be possible to replace batch synthesis.This lowering of the cost would make more nanoscale materials readily available for many chemical,environmental,and biological applications.

Abstract:Systematic investigation was performed to understand the change of physiochemical properties in Y zeolite after the microwave (MW)-assisted dealumination (using mineral acid, HCl, and chelating agent, EDTA4−) and the subsequent alkaline treatment (of the dealuminated zeolites). The findings show that the combination of EDTA4− and hydrogen ions was effective to achieve dealumination of zeolite Y under MW irradiation, which formed complexed framework Al, instead of extra-framework Al (EFAl), to be extracted readily by the sequential alkaline treatment for mesopore formation. Conversely, under the same MW condition, the use of HCl encouraged the formation of EFAl species in the defective Y framework, which did not benefit the mesopore formation. The disclose of the distinct dealumination mechanisms of the MW-assisted method using different agents can benefit the further development of effective MW methods for dealumination of zeolites and/or making mesoporous zeolites.

Microwave synthesis process for ZSM-11 molecular sieve

Abstract:The invention discloses a microwave synthesis process for a ZSM-11 molecular sieve. An aluminum source, an alkali source, a silicon source, tetrabutylammonium bromide and deionized water are used as raw materials; a microwave radiation heating manner is employed; a reaction mixture undergoes crystallization under microwave radiation at a temperature of 130 to 180 DEG C and self-generated pressure for 2 to 4 h; and then a solid is separated from mother liquor and washed with deionized water until a pH value is 2 to 4, so raw powder of the ZSM-11 molecular sieve is obtained. According to the microwave synthesis process for the ZSM-11 molecular sieve, microwave radiation heating is used for replacing a traditional hydrothermal manner; the ZSM-11 molecular sieve obtained in the invention has a high degree of crystallization, a pure crystalline phase, controllable particle sizes and wide distribution of the particle sizes; and through presetting of a seed crystal, a nucleation rate and a crystal growth rate are substantially accelerated, and crystallization time is greatly shortened.

Abstract:Multifunctional composite microspheres with spinel Fe(3)O(4) cores and anatase TiO(2) shells (Fe(3)O(4)@TiO(2)) are synthesized by combining a solvothermal reaction and calcination process. The size, morphology, microstructure, phase purity, and magnetic properties are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM, selected-area electron diffraction, electron energy loss spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry. The results show that the as-synthesized microspheres have a unique morphology, uniform size, good crystallinity, favorable superparamagnetism, and high magnetization. By varying the experimental conditions such as Fe(3)O(4) size and concentration, microspheres with different core sizes and shell thickneses can be readily synthesized. Furthermore, the microwave absorption properties of these microspheres are investigated in terms of complex permittivity and permeability. By integration of the chemical composition and unique structure, the Fe(3)O(4)@TiO(2) microspheres possess lower reflection loss and a wider absorption frequency range than pure Fe(3)O(4). Moreover, the electromagnetic data demonstrate that Fe(3)O(4@TiO(2) microspheres with thicker TiO(2) shells exhibit significantly enhanced microwave absorption properties compared to those with thinner TiO(2) shells, which may result from effective complementarities between dielectric loss and magnetic loss. All the results indicate that these Fe(3)O(4)@TiO(2) microspheres may be attractive candidate materials for microwave absorption applications.
