Abstract:Background Achieving a clinically acceptable dose distribution with commercial vaginal applicators for brachytherapy of recurrent parauterine tumors is challenging. However, the application of three‐dimensional (3D) printing technology in brachytherapy has been widely acknowledged and can improve clinical treatment outcomes. Purpose This study aimed to introduce an individual curved‐needle interstitial template (ICIT) created using 3D printing technology for high‐dose‐rate (HDR) brachytherapy with interstitial treatment to provide a clinically feasible approach to distal parauterine and vaginal cuff tumors. The entire workflow, including the design, optimization, and application, is presented. Methods Ten patients with pelvic cancer recurrence were examined at our center. The vaginal topography was filled with gauze strips soaked in developer solution, and images were obtained using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Curved needle paths were designed, and ICITs were 3D‐printed according to the high‐risk clinical target volume (HRCTV) and vaginal filling model. The dose and volume histogram parameters of the HRCTV (V100, V200, D90, and D98) and organs at risk (OARs) (D2cc) were recorded. Results All patients completed interstitial brachytherapy treatment with the 3D‐printed ICIT. One patient experienced vaginal cuff tumor recurrence, and nine patients experienced parametrial tumor recurrence (four on the left and five on the right). We used two to five interstitial needles, and the maximum angle of the curved needle was 40°. No source obstruction events occurred during treatment of these 10 patients. The doses delivered to the targets and OARs of all patients were within the dose limits and based on clinical experience at our center. Conclusion The ICIT is a treatment option for patients with distal parauterine tumor recurrence. This method addresses the limitations of vaginal intracavitary and standard interstitial applicators. The ICIT has the advantages of biocompatibility, personalization, and magnetic resonance imaging compatibility.

Abstract:Purpose: One of the main challenges in facial region brachytherapy is fixation of vendor-delivered standard applicators. Reproducibility can be maintained; however, there are frequent problems with applicator fitting to the skin surface in pleated regions. Manually prepared individual moulds require technological facilities and highly-trained staff. This article presents 3D-printed applicator preparation for a particular patient skin brachytherapy, using low-cost equipment and free software. We described applicator preparation in a step-by-step workflow.Material and methods: This study demonstrated preparation of a skin brachytherapy applicator for a challenging recurrent tumor located in the nose bridge. During first visit of patient, fiducial markers were placed to enclose treated region. Patient was computed tomography (CT)-scanned, and reconstruction of target volume and surrounding organs at risk (OARs) were performed using treatment planning system (TPS). In TPS on patient's surface, a 1-cm thick bolus was added as a body of applicator. Inside the bolus, source paths were designed, and pre-plan was prepared. Using Beben - DICOM to standard triangle language (STL) software, the body of applicator and source-paths from pre-planning was transformed into an STL file, which was used as a solid definition in 3D printing.Results: The printed applicator fitted very well, and its' placement was quickly consistent regarding placing and securing. CTV was slightly broader in treatment plan (0.34 cm3 vs. 0.31 cm3), and doses given to CTV were lower, except for V150, which was higher for the realized plan (1.15% vs. 1.83%). All reported doses to OARs were lower in the realized plan.Conclusions: A low-cost 3D printer and widely available PLA filaments seem feasible to produce individual contact applicators for skin brachytherapy. Beben - DICOM to STL software and presented workflow appear to be convenient and simple tool.

Abstract:Purpose: To provide a systematic review of the applications of 3D printing in gynecological brachytherapy. Methods: Peer-reviewed articles relating to additive manufacturing (3D printing) from the 34 million plus biomedical citations in National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI/PubMed), and 53 million records in Web of Science (Clarivate) were queried for 3D printing applications. The results were narrowed sequentially to, (1) all literature in 3D printing with final publications prior to July 2022 (in English, and excluding books, proceedings, and reviews), and then to applications in, (2) radiotherapy, (3) brachytherapy, (4) gynecological brachytherapy. Brachytherapy applications were reviewed and grouped by disease site, with gynecological applications additionally grouped by study type, methodology, delivery modality, and device type. Results: From 47,541 3D printing citations, 96 publications met the inclusion criteria for brachytherapy, with gynecological clinical applications compromising the highest percentage (32%), followed by skin and surface (19%), and head and neck (9%). The distribution of delivery modalities was 58% for HDR (Ir-192), 35% for LDR (I-125), and 7% for other modalities. In gynecological brachytherapy, studies included design of patient specific applicators and templates, novel applicator designs, applicator additions, quality assurance and dosimetry devices, anthropomorphic gynecological applicators, and in-human clinical trials. Plots of year-to-year growth demonstrate a rapid nonlinear trend since 2014 due to the improving accessibility of low-cost 3D printers. Based on these publications, considerations for clinical use are provided. Conclusions: 3D printing has emerged as an important clinical technology enabling customized applicator and template designs, representing a major advancement in the methodology for implantation and delivery in gynecological brachytherapy.

Abstract:Purpose: To develop a custom low dose rate brachytherapy applicator for the treatment of conjunctival malignancies which leverages 3D-printing technology to provide enhanced design flexibility and availability. Methods: An elliptical shell applicator inspired by ocular surgery postoperation conformer shells was developed for the placement of the applicator around the cornea of the eye, with a central hole to provide patient comfort. The applicator featured 2 concentric circles of slots for iodine-125 seeds, providing customization of the dose distribution depending on the location of the target. The applicator was modeled using computer-aided design software. The resultant model STL file was used for 3D printing of the applicator and the development of a Monte Carlo model of the applicator and its dose distribution. Results: The applicator was successfully 3D printed using biocompatible resin, which could be sterilized for treatment after manual source loading. A Geant4 model of the applicator was created directly from the STL model and was applied to a phantom to estimate the dose distribution delivered by the applicator. The toroidal dose distribution allowed for treatment of the conjunctiva while reducing dose to the cornea compared to traditional eye plaque designs. Conclusions: A custom 3D-printed applicator was successfully developed and modeled for the treatment of conjunctival malignancies. This novel applicator design potentially provides higher quality, more customizable dose distributions for patients and the simplicity of the design makes it accessible for any clinic with 3D-printing technology.
Reproducibility and air gap pockets of 3D-printed brachytherapy applicator placement in high-dose-rate skin cancer

Abstract:Background and purpose: This study aimed to investigate the reproducibility of a novel approach using 3D printed brachytherapy applicators for the treatment of skin cancer. Specifically, we aimed to assess the accuracy of applicator placement and to minimize the existence of air gap pockets between the applicator and the patient's skin. Materials and methods: A total of 20 patients plans diagnosed with skin cancer were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy. To ensure precise applicator placement, patient-specific 3D printed applicators were designed based on individual body and tumor topography, utilizing data obtained from computer tomography (CT) scans. All applicators were fabricated using fused deposition modeling technology. Results: The error in applicator placement was measured and found to be less than 1.0 mm on average, with a standard deviation of 0.9 mm. Additionally, the average error in air gap pockets between the applicator and the patient's skin was 0.4 mm (standard deviation was 0.5 mm). The study demonstrated that the personalized approach of 3D printed brachytherapy applicator placement in skin cancer treatment yielded highly accurate results. The average error of less than 1.0 mm in applicator positioning and the minimal air gap pockets demonstrated the reproducibility and precision of this technique. Conclusion: Our study establishes the reproducibility and accuracy of 3D-printed brachytherapy applicator placement in the treatment of skin cancer. This personalized treatment approach offers a highly precise method for delivering radiation therapy, minimizing the risk to adjacent healthy tissues, and enhancing overall patient outcomes.
Nursing Report of One Case of Recurrent Cervical Cancer Patient Treated by After-Loading Therapy with Interstitial Brachytherapy Assisted by 3D Printing Source Device

Abstract:Objective To summarize the nursing experience of the first case of recurrent cervical cancer patient treated by after-loading therapy with interstitial brachytherapy assisted by 3D printing device in China.Methods For a patient with recurrent cervical cancer after radiotherapy,preoperative CT scan was carried out,preoperative plan was designed,3D printing template was designed,and brachytherapy was carried out according to the guidance of 3D printing source device and CT image verification. The treatment dose(D90) was four Gy/fraction,two fractions per week and five fractions in all. The patient was given psychological and medical nursing. Key points of nursing were summarized and role of nursing was evaluated.Results Nursing work was involved in the entire process of treatment,including psychological nursing,diet guidance,instruments preparation,patient assessment and preparation,nursing during brachytherapy,nursing during and after radiotherapy,and nursing for complications,etc. Operation risks and radiation complications could be effectively reduced by comprehensive nursing,together with more reasonable and accurate distribution of implant needles guided by 3D printing source device.Conclusions The advantages of interstitial brachytherapy assisted by 3D printing source device include individuality,accuracy,and good repeatability. A serious and comprehensive nursing work before,during and after the treatment plays an essential role in improving therapeutic effect, reducing patients′ risk of injury and improving operational efficiency.
3D-printed individual template brachytherapy for the treatment of intractable central pelvic recurrent cervical cancer: A single institution experience

Abstract:Objective: The prognosis of recurrent cervical cancer tends to be poor and there are limited effective treatments currently available for these patients. This study was developed to find a safe and effective treatment for patients with central pelvic recurrent cervical cancer. Materials and methods: This retrospective study analyzed patients with central pelvic recurrent cervical cancer who received 3D-printed individual template (3D-PIT) brachytherapy between February 2019 and June 2023. Analyses of dosimetric parameters, toxicity-related complications, and survival were conducted based on the data of these patients. Results: Twenty-one patients with central pelvic recurrent cervical cancer patients were enrolled. All of them received 3D-printed individual template (3D-PIT) brachytherapy. The mean respective adjusted cumulative HRCTV-D90 and HRCTV-D98 values for these patients were 86.9 Gy and 75.4 Gy. And the local control (LC) rate of these patients was 57.1%. In these 21 patients, only 2 (9.5%) of them experienced grade 3-4 rectal adverse reactions, while 7 (33.3%) patients experienced grade 3-4 bladder adverse reactions. 5(23.8%) patients had fistula, while 3 of these 5 patients had undergone prior anti-VEGF targeted drug treatment which is a risk factor of fistula. The respective 2-year rates of overall and progression-free survival (OS and PFS) for these patients were 72.9% and 57.4%, with a 26-month median PFS. Conclusions: These single-institution data highlight the potential viability of 3D-PIT brachytherapy as an approach to managing intractable central pelvic recurrent cervical cancer following first-line treatment.

Abstract:Radiation therapy, including image-guided adaptive brachytherapy based on magnetic resonance imaging, is the standard of care in locally advanced cervical and vaginal cancer and part of the treatment in other primary and recurrent gynaecological tumours. Tumour control probability increases with dose and brachytherapy is the optimal technique to increase the dose to the target volume while maintaining dose constraints to organs at risk. The use of interstitial needles is now one of the quality indicators for cervical cancer brachytherapy and needles should optimally be used in ≥60% of patients. Commercially available applicators sometimes cannot be used because of anatomical barriers or do not allow adequate target volume coverage due to tumour size or topography. Over the last five to ten years, 3D printing has been increasingly used for manufacturing of customised applicators in brachytherapy, with gynaecological tumours being the most common indication. We present the rationale, techniques and current clinical evidence for the use of 3D-printed applicators in gynaecological brachytherapy.

Comparison of 3D-printed multichannel non-co-planar vaginal applicators and single-channel vaginal applicators for brachytherapy with positive or close surgical margins in cervical cancer

Abstract:Objective: This study was conducted to compare the differences between 3D-printed multichannel non-co-planar vaginal applicators and single-channel vaginal applicators in cervical cancer patients with positive or close surgical margins. Methods: Between January 2015 and June 2023, 104 cervical cancer patients who underwent radical surgery with positive or close surgical margins were enrolled to receive concurrent intensity-modulated chemoradiotherapy combined with 3D-printed multichannel non-co-planar vaginal applicators (3D-printed group, 41 patients) or single-channel vaginal applicators (single-channel group, 63 patients) guided brachytherapy. The dosimetric parameters, 5-year local control (LC), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) of two groups were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The high-risk clinical target volume (D90, D100) and high-dose volume fraction (V150) in 3D-printed group were significantly higher than those in single-channel group (p < 0.05), and the homogeneity index (HI) and conformal index (COIN) were equally better in 3D-printed group. In 3D-printed group, the D2cc, D1cc, and D0.1cc of the bladder and rectum were significantly lower than those of the single-channel group (p < 0.05). The 3D-printed group had significantly superior 5-year LC (70.0% vs. 51.3%, p = 0.041) and PFS (63.0% vs. 44.2%, p = 0.045), but OS were not significantly different between treatment groups (75.4% vs. 59.7%, p = 0.112). The incidence of radiation enteritis and cystitis was lower in the 3D-printed group than in the single-channel group, but no statistical difference was noted. Conclusions: The 3D-printed multichannel non-co-planar vaginal insertion applicators show the advantage of target dose, improve the LC and PFS in patients with positive or close surgical margins after cervical cancer surgery. Thus, the popularization of this method and its application may be of value.
Automated planning of curved needle channels in 3D printed patient-tailored applicators for cervical cancer brachytherapy

Abstract:Purpose Patient-tailored intracavitary/interstitial (IC/IS) brachytherapy (BT) applicators may increase dose conformity in cervical cancer patients. Current configuration planning methods in these custom applicators rely on manual specification or a small set of (straight) needles. This work introduces and validates a two-stage approach for establishing channel configurations in the 3D printed patient-tailored ARCHITECT applicator. Methods For each patient, the patient-tailored applicator shape was based on the first BT application with a commercial applicator and integrated connectors to a commercial (Geneva) intrauterine tube and two lunar ring channels. First, a large candidate set was generated of channels that steer the needle to desired poses in the target region and are contained in the applicator. The channels' centrelines were represented by Bézier curves. Channels running between straight target segments and entry points were optimised and refined to ensure (dynamic) feasibility. Second, channel configurations were selected using geometric coverage optimisation. This workflow was applied to establish patient-tailored geometries for twenty-two patients previously treated using the Venezia applicator. Treatment plans were automatically generated using the in-house developed algorithm BiCycle. Plans for the clinically used configuration, TP clin , and patient-tailored configuration, TP arch , were compared. Results Channel configurations could be generated in clinically feasible time (median: 2651s, range 1826-3812s). All TP arch and TP clin plans were acceptable, but planning aims were more frequently attained with patient-tailored configurations (115/132 versus 100/132 instances). Median CTV IR D 98 and bladder D 2cm 3 doses significantly improved (p < 0.001 and p < 0.01 respectively) in TP arch plans in comparison with TP clin plans, and in approximately half of the patients dosimetric indices improved. Conclusion Automated patient-tailored BT channel configuration planning for 3D printed applicators is clinically feasible. A treatment planning study showed that all plans met planning limits for the patient-tailored configurations, and in selected cases improved the plan quality in comparison with commercial applicator configurations.

Abstract:Introduction: The prognosis of patients with non-central recurrent cervical cancer (NRCC) remains poor, and treatment options are limited. We aimed to explore the accuracy and safety of the 3D-printed non-coplanar template (3D-PNCT)-assisted 192 Ir interstitial brachytherapy (ISBT) in the treatment of NRCC. Material and methods: A total of 36 patients with NRCC who received 3D-PNCT-guided 192 Ir ISBT in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2021 to July 2022 were included in this study. There were 36 3D-PNCTs that were designed and printed. The prescribed dose was 30–36 Gy, divided into five to six times, once a week. To evaluate whether the actual parameters were consistent with the preoperative design, the dosimetric parameters of pre- and postoperative treatment plans were compared, including dose of 90% high-risk clinical target volume (HR-CTV D90), volume percentage of 100% and 150% prescribed dose V 100% and V 150 %, homogeneity index (HI), conformal index (CI), external index (EI), and dose received by 2 cm 3 (D2cm 3 ) of the rectum, colon, bladder, and ileum. The safety parameters including occurrence of bleeding, infection, pain, radiation enteritis, and radiation cystitis within 3 months after operation were recorded. Results: All patients successfully completed the treatment and achieved the goals of the preoperative plan. There was no significant difference in the accuracy (HRCTVD90, V 100% , EI, CI, and HI) and safety (D2cm 3 of rectum, colon, bladder, and ileum) parameters of the postoperative plan compared with the preoperative plan (all p >0.05). Major side effects included bleeding at the puncture site (13.9%), postoperative pain (8.3%), acute radiation cystitis (13.9%), and radiation enteritis (19.4%). There were no serious perioperative complications and no grade 3–4 acute radiotherapy side effects. Conclusion: 3D-PNCT-assisted 192 Ir ISBT can be accurately and safely applied in the treatment of patients with NRCC.

Design approach and benefits of the 3D-printed vaginal individualized applicator (VIA)

Abstract:PURPOSE Interstitial gynecologic brachytherapy necessitates precise needle placement, requiring time and expertise. We aimed to simplify interstitial procedures and facilitate optimal needle distribution with individualized vaginal templates to guide interstitial needles. MATERIALS/METHODS We developed the 3D-printed vaginal individualized applicator (VIA), a cylindrical template containing individualized internal channels that guide interstitial needles to cover the tumor extent. Eight patients underwent VIA only interstitial implants (VIA only), and five intact cervical cases were treated using tandem and customized VIA (VIA + T). Procedure length, number of needles utilized and dosimetric measures were evaluated. RESULTS VIA was successfully designed and used clinically for 24 procedures (8 VIA only, 16 VIA + T). Average procedure needle insertion time reduced from 80.9 min for traditional interstitial to 42.9 min for VIA only, approximately 47% shorter with a similar mean high risk CTV volume (28.3 cc VIA only vs. 32.4 cc) and excellent dosimetry with average CTV V100% (94.3% and 94.4%). VIA + T was particularly useful in patients with small vaginal canals and large tumor size. For the five VIA + T patients average tumor size was 68.0cc (range 26.6–143.5 cc). VIA + T procedures were approximately 20% shorter than hybrid procedures with other applicators with mean length of 20.1 min and an average of 6.8 needles (range 3–12). CONCLUSION Our novel 3D-printed VIA facilitates gynecologic interstitial brachytherapy by simplifying needle placement, reducing procedure time, and maintaining excellent dosimetry. VIA can be customized for various clinical scenarios, particularly beneficial for large tumors or small vaginal canals.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the accuracy and feasibility of 3D-printing individualized template-guided and CT-guided 192Ir interstitial brachytherapy in the central recurrent gynecologic tumors by comparing pre-plan and intraoperative physical dosimetric parameters. Methods:This study involved 38 patients with central recurrent gynecologic tumors who underwent 3D printing individual template (3D-PIT)-assisted and CT-guided 192Ir interstitial brachytherapy in the Department of Radiation Oncology of the Peking University Third Hospital from Jan 2018 to Dec 2019.The prescription doses for the target tumor areas were 10-36 Gy to be delivered at 5-6 Gy/fraction for 2-6 fractions.The pre-plan and intraoperative dosimetric parameters were compared, including the minimum prescription doses delivered to 90% and 100% of target volume( D90, D100)and the mean percentage of volume receiving 100% of the prescription doses ( V100). Meanwhile, the doses delivered to 2 cm 3 ( D2 cm 3) of organs at risk (bladders, rectums, and colons) were analyzed.The quality parameters of the brachytherapy were studied, including conformity index (CI), homogeneity index (HI), and external index (EI) of the target volume.Perioperative complications were also observed. Results:A total of 194 treatments were included.During the treatment, 5-13 (median 6) needles were inserted, with a prescription dose of 5-6 Gy per fraction.There were no statistical differences between pre-plan and intraoperative D90, D100, V100, CI, HI, and EI as well as the D2 cm 3 of bladders and colons at risk ( P>0.05). In contrast, for the D2 cm 3 of rectums, the intraoperative dose was slightly higher than the pre-plan dose, showing a statistical difference ( t=-0.335, P=0.027). Conclusions:The 3D-PIT-assisted and CT-guided 192Ir interstitial brachytherapy at a high dose rate is accurate and feasible in the treatment of recurrent gynecologic tumors, meeting the pre-plan dose requirement.
Accuracy Evaluation of a 3D-Printed Individual Template for Needle Guidance in Head and Neck Brachytherapy

Abstract:To transfer the preplan for the head and neck brachytherapy to the clinical implantation procedure, a preplan-based 3D-printed individual template for needle insertion guidance had previously been designed and used. The accuracy of needle insertion using this kind template was assessed in vivo. In the study, 25 patients with head and neck tumors were implanted with 125I radioactive seeds under the guidance of the 3D-printed individual template. Patients were divided into four groups based on the site of needle insertion: the parotid and masseter region group (nine patients); the maxillary and paranasal region group (eight patients); the submandibular and upper neck area group (five patients); and the retromandibular region group (six patients). The distance and angular deviations between the preplanned and placed needles were compared, and the complications and time required for needle insertion were assessed. The mean entrance point distance deviation for all 619 needles was 1.18 ± 0.81 mm, varying from 0.857 ± 0.545 to 1.930 ± 0.843 mm at different sites. The mean angular deviation was 2.08 ± 1.07 degrees, varying from 1.85 ± 0.93 to 2.73 ± 1.18 degrees at different sites. All needles were manually inserted to their preplanned positions in a single attempt, and the mean time to insert one needle was 7.5 s. No anatomical complications related to inaccurately placed implants were observed. Using the 3D-printed individual template for the implantation of 125I radioactive seeds in the head and neck region can accurately transfer a CT-based preplan to the brachytherapy needle insertion procedure. Moreover, the addition of individual template guidance can reduce the time required for implantation and minimize the damage to normal tissues.
The Preliminary Results of 3-Dimensional Printed Individual Template Assisted 192ir High-Dose Rate Interstitial Brachytherapy for Central Recurrent Gynecologic Cancer

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of high dose rate interstitial brachytherapy (HDR-IB) assisted with 3-dimensional printing individual template (3D-PIT) for central pelvic recurrent gynecologic cancer (CR-GYN). Methods: Totally 32 patients diagnosed with CR-GYN received iridium-192(192Ir) HDR-IB assisted with 3D-PIT that was classified in 2 types(Type I: transvaginal template/ applicator, and Type II: transvaginal combined transperineal template). The prescribed dose to gross tumor volume (GTV) was 10-36 Gy in 2-6 fractions. We rely on a few dosimetric parameters for quality control. The short-term efficacy was evaluated by RECIST v1.1, and the adverse event was evaluated by CTCAE V4.0. Results: The median V100, D100 and D90 of per fraction among all the patients were 88.9%±9.8%, 3.45Gy±0.54 Gy, and 5.79Gy±0.32 Gy, respectively. Dosimetric comparison between preplan and treatment plan of 20/32 patients with Type II 3D-PIT showed no significant difference in GTV volume, V100, D100, D90, conformation index (CI) and homogeneity index (HI). No severe treatment complications occurred. Grade 3 or 4 late toxicities (fistula) were observed in 3 patients (9%). The local response rate (complete remission, CR + partial remission, PR) was 84.4% (27/32) 1 month after completion of treatment. The median time to progression (TTP) was 15.4 months (95% CI 11.3- 19.6 months), 1-year local control (LC) rate were 51.7%. Conclusions: HDR-IB assisted by 3D-PIT was a reliable modality for CR-GYN due to the clinical feasibility and accepted complications.

Abstract:Introduction: It is worth to explore a more effective treatment method to minimize the damage for patients during the treatment process.Aim: To explore the method, feasibility and efficacy of B-ultrasound or computed tomography (CT)-guided 3D printing individualized non-coplanar template brachytherapy in the treatment of locally uncontrolled recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.Material and methods: Ten patients with locally uncontrolled recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma who were treated in our department from August 2021 to February 2023 were collected and treated by 3D printing individualized non-coplanar template brachytherapy under the guidance of B-ultrasound or CT, using the 192Ir high-dose rate afterloading treatment machine of NUCLETRON Technologies GmbH. The radiation source was 192Ir, with a diameter of 0.5 mm, a length of 3.5 mm, a total dose of 10-24 Gy, 5-8 Gy/time, once a week.Results: According to the efficacy evaluation criteria, CT scan was performed after 1-6 months, followed up for 24 months, including CR 40% (4/10), PR 50% (5/10), NC 10% (5/10), PD 0 (0). The total effective rate of CR + PR was 90% (9/10), the 6-month local control rate was 90%, the 12-month local control rate was 80%, the 18-month local control rate was 70%, and the 24-month local control rate was 70%. The overall survival rate at 24 months was 100%.Conclusions: Safe and effective interpolation is used to guide the 3D printing of a single non-coplanar template with B-ultrasound or CT in the radiotherapy of local and uncontrolled recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. According to the guidance of B-ultrasound or CT, the 3D printing individualized non-coplanar template has an obvious healing effect especially in the brachytherapy, and can also protect the functional organs well, with less side effects and fewer complications. Therefore, this method is the most effective for the treatment of locally uncontrolled recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
