Abstract:The operative method for early stage low rectal cancer must be selected carefully from the perspective of functional preservation. Compared with other operative techniques, endoscopic resection, especially endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), is a minimally invasive treatment that has a high en bloc resection rate and using which, surgical resection may be avoided. Furthermore, ESD is considered an effective treatment for lesions extending to the dentate line, residual recurrent lesions, scar tissue lesions, and large lesions (≥ 5 cm), which were considered difficult to resect using conventional endoscopic treatments (Endoscopic mucosal resection :EMR and Endoscopic piecemeal mucosal resection :EPMR). This study evaluated the efficacy of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for the lower rectal lesions.
