Abstract:Endoscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT) produces real time, volumetric imaging of tissue architecture. Conventionally, OCT scans the optical beam over tissue surface by proximal actuation, often resulting in image distortion from flexion of the catheter. We developed an ultrahigh speed endoscopic OCT catheter with a distal micromotor, eliminating rotational distortion and permitting high-fidelity images. This also enabled OCT angiography (OCTA), with visualization of subsurface microvasculature without need of contrast agents. Here, we investigated architectural and microvascular changes in the terminal ileum (TI) from a patient with Crohn's disease compared to TI of a healthy control patient.
