Abstract:Chronic radiation proctitis (CRP) develops in 5-20% of patients receiving radiation therapy for prostate and cervical cancer. CRP is associated with formation of neovascular lesions causing persistent rectal bleeding. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) can achieve complete resolution of bleeding in majority of the patients, but requires multiple treatment sessions. We have recently demonstrated endoscopic OCT angiography (OCTA) to generate depth resolved maps of microvasculature without requiring exogenous contrast. This study investigates OCTA for visualizing microvascular changes to assess RFA treatment of CRP.
