Abstract:For suitable initial and boundary data, we construct infinitely many weak solutions to the nematic liquid crystal flows in dimension three. These solutions are in the axisymmetric class with bounded energy and backward bubbling at a large time.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the incompressible hydrodynamic flow of the nematic liquid crystals in dimension N (N=2 or 3). We obtain the local existence and uniqueness of the solution if the initial density ρ0≥0. Particularly, if ρ0 has a positive bound from below, and N=2, we get the global existence and uniqueness of the solution with small initial data.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the density-dependent incompressible nematic liquid crystal flows in n-dimensional (n=2or3) bounded domain. The local existence and uniqueness of strong solutions are obtained when the viscosity coefficient of fluid depends on density. Furthermore, one establishes blowup criterions for the regularity of the strong solutions in dimensions two and three respectively. In particular, we build a blowup criterion just in terms of the gradient of density if the initial direction field satisfies some geometric configuration. For these results, the initial density need not be strictly positive.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the incompressible nematic liquid crystal flows in three-dimensional whole space. First of all, we establish the global existence of solution by energy method under assumption of small initial data. Furthermore, the time decay rates of velocity and director are built when the initial data belongs to $L^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$ additionally. Finally, one also constructs the time convergence rates for the mixed space-time derivatives of velocity and director.

Abstract:We consider a full Navier-Stokes and $Q$-tensor system for incompressible liquid crystal flows of nematic type. In the two dimensional periodic case, we prove the existence and uniqueness of global strong solutions that are uniformly bounded in time. This result is obtained without any smallness assumption on the physical parameter $\xi$ that measures the ratio between tumbling and aligning effects of a shear flow exerting over the liquid crystal directors. Moreover, we show the uniqueness of asymptotic limit for each global strong solution as time goes to infinity and provide an uniform estimate on the convergence rate.

Abstract:We study the long-time behavior of global strong solutions to a hydrodynamic system for nonhomogeneous incompressible nematic liquid crystal flows driven by two types of external forces in a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^2$. For arbitrary large regular initial data with the initial density being away from vacuum, we prove the decay of the velocity field for both cases. Furthermore, for the case with asymptotically autonomous external force, we can prove the convergence of the density function and the director vector as time goes to infinity. Estimates on convergence rate are also provided.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the well-posedness of the compressible nematic liquid crystal flow with the cylinder symmetry in R-3. By establishing a uniform pointwise positive lower and upper bounds of the density, we derive the global existence and uniqueness of strong solution and show the long time behavior of the global solution. Our results do not need the smallness of the initial data. Furthermore, a regularity result of global strong solution is given as well.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with a simplified hydrodynamic flow modeling the three-dimensional motion of compressible, nematic liquid crystal materials. The authors establish the global existence of classical solution to the Cauchy problem with smooth initial data which are of small energy but possibly large oscillations with constant state as far-field condition which could be either vacuum or non-vacuum. The initial density is allowed to vanish and the spatial measure of the set of vacuum can be arbitrarily large, in particular, the initial density can even have compact support. As a byproduct, the large-time behavior of the solution is also studied.

Abstract:The Cauchy problem for the three-dimensional compressible flow of nematic liquid crystals is considered. Existence and uniqueness of the global strong solution are established in critical Besov spaces provided that the initial datum is close to an equilibrium state $(1,{\bf 0}, \hat{{\bf d}})$ with a constant vector $\hat{{\bf d}}\in S^2$.
