Abstract:Here, we report a chiral copper(II)-bisoxazoline-catalyzed enantioselective ring opening of cyclic diaryliodonium salts with heteroaryl thiols. The readily available 2-mercaptoben-zoxazole and 2-mercaptobenzothiazole derivatives reacted efficiently with cyclic diaryliodonium salts and afforded various axially chiral biaryls bearing iodine and sulfur functional groups in excellent yields and enantioselectivities. The products were further transformed into diverse enantiopure alkyl biaryl sulfides, which can be employed as chiral ligands.

Abstract:A metal- and hypervalent iodine reagent-free electrochemical oxidative dearomatization-induced [5+2] cycloaddition/pinacol rearrangement cascade reaction was described. The electrosynthetic method showed strong tolerance for vinylphenols, ethynylphenols, and allenylphenols, which thus enabled the rapid assembly of diversely functionalized bicyclo[3.2.1]octanes in 41-95% yields and up to >20:1 dr. This protocol could be scaled up to gram amounts and should find wide application in complex natural product synthesis.

Abstract:Palladium-catalyzed cascades of arylation/cyclization/desulfonation of ortho-aminocinnamate esters by using diaryliodonium salts afforded a wide range of 4-aryl quinolin-2(1H)-ones. Abstract:An electrochemical ODI-[5+2] cascade reaction was developed which enables the rapid assembly of diversely functionalized bicyclo[3.2.1]octadienones from sensitive ethynylphenols. By combining a directed retro-aldol/aldol process, a [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement, and an Al(O-iPr)(3)-promoted reductive 1,3-transposition, the asymmetric total syntheses of five 8,9-seco-ent-kauranoids-(-)-shikoccin, (-)-O-methylshikoccin, (-)-epoxyshikoccin, (+)-O-methylepoxyshikoccin, and (+)-rabdo-hakusin-have been achieved in a concise and efficient manner.

Abstract:The selective arylations of 2-naphthol and phenol derivatives catalyzed by Cu(OTf)2 with using diaryliodonium(III) salts have been developed. With this method, biaryls bearing hydroxyl groups can be easily accessed in moderate to good yields. Additionally, this protocol provided an alternative for the preparation of 3-arylated binaphthalene derivatives.

Abstract:By using vicinal aryl sulfonamide substituted diaryliodonium salts, a cascade of desulfonylation/aryl migration was promoted by triethylamine in the synthesis of sterically hindered biarylamines, which operated via a radical-induced reaction pathway. The products were readily converted into a variety of important synthons. Furthermore, coupling reactions of N-methyl biarylamine and 1,6-dibromopyrene provided a potentially attractive molecule in OLEDs.

Abstract:CuOTf-catalyzed substituent-controlled cascade [2 + 2 + 2] and [4 + 2] annulation reactions among heterocumulenes, alkynes, and diaryliodonium salts were achieved. Various quinoline derivatives could be obtained in good yields with excellent selectivity. This methodology provided a novel pathway to activate heterocumulenes via a unique highly reactive cationic intermediate. The reaction process was well elucidated by density functional theory calculations.

Abstract:Arynes are highly reactive intermediates that may be trapped with arynophilic reagents. However, the generation of benzyne necessitates stringent reaction conditions. The cycloaddition reaction of traditional benzyne precursors including diaryliodonium salts with arynophiles under strongly basic conditions encounters the limitations in tolerance of labile functional groups. To overcome this issue, the modulation of diaryliodonium structures are considered by incorporation of specific groups for activation of vinical C-H bond, enabling the generation of aryne intermediates in cycloaddition reactions under mild conditions. In this study, we reported meta-trifluoromethanesulfonate (OTf) substituted diaryliodonium salts as benzyne precursor, in which the activation of C-I bond and selectively deprotonation of neighboring C-H bond generate highly reactive aryne intermediates for cycloaddition reactions with furans. This approach offers a simple and efficient method for synthesizing bridged ring compounds under mild reaction conditions with good functional group tolerance.

Abstract:In AgSbF6/Rh-2(OAc)(4)/DCM system, two-component reaction of 2-diazo-3,5-dioxo-6-ynoates (sulfones) and two equivalent of aldehydes provided easy access to 2-(1,3-dioxolanes-4-yl)-4H-pyran-4-ones. This represents the first method for generating the novel heterocyclic compounds. A possible mechanism is proposed to explain this result. The most significant features of the tandem cyclization are simple procedure, mild conditions and high diastereoselectivity.

Abstract:Bifunctional thiourea-based organocatalysts facilitate an enantioselective desymmetrization and Lossen rearrangement cascade reaction of N-sulfoxy meso-succinimides, resulting in the synthesis of cyclic β-amino acid derivatives. This catalytic system was optimized for bicyclic and tricyclic succinimide substrates affording yields from 61-91% and up to 96:4 er. This reaction proceeds via the group selective addition of the primary alcohol nucleophile to an enantiotopic carbonyl group with sequential rearrangement of the intermediate O-sulfonyl hydroxamate ester.

Abstract:A procedure for the 2-arylations of indolinone derivatives with diaryliodonium salts mediated by potassium tert-butoxide is developed. Various monoarylated indolinone derivatives are readily obtained in 24–70% yield via this method. The alkylation of monoarylated indolinone derivatives with allyl bromide or benzyl bromide affords the corresponding 2,3-disubstituted products in 60% and 70% yield, respectively.

This method directly transforms various arenes into their corresponding diaryliodonium salts, followed by a C-O coupling reaction to produce structurally diverse diaryl ethers.
