Abstract:A facile and scalable process for synthesizing Fe3O4/C composites via a solution combustion technique followed by carbon-coating annealing treatment is developed. The as-prepared Fe3O4/C sample containing about 13.9 wt% carbon displays an attractive cycling performance up to 100 cycles (similar to 470 mA h g(-1) retained at 100 mA g(-1)). In addition, the Fe3O4/C electrode shows good rate capability, a capacity of 530 mA h g(-1) at 92.4 mA g(-1) is still recoverable and sustainable up to 60 cycles after charge/discharge process at high rates. The enhanced electrochemical performance can be attributed to the improved electron transport from the consecutive carbon layer and Li+ diffusion due to the nanoscale nature of the Fe3O4 active materials. The present work represents a successful example of solution combustion technique combined with carbon-coating annealing process for preparing iron oxide-based electrodes in large scale, which can also be extended to prepare other metal oxide/carbon composites. Abstract:A facile one-pot method to synthesize a Fe-N-x-CNTs/rGO catalyst by using melamine and FeCl2 center dot 4H(2)O as low-cost precursors is reported.The 3-dimensional porous structure and the dispersion of precursor were completed at the same time. Suitable precursor and concentration selection not only solved the aggregation of graphene but also improved its effective iron content and activity. The obtained catalysts exhibited oxygen reduction activitycomparable to commercial Pt/C with a half-wave potential (the potential when current density reaches the half of the diffusion-limited current density) at 0.875 V(vs. RHE) in alkaline media. In addition, it also showed a better stability than Pt/C with a lower decay of E-1/2 (10 mV) after 2000 cycles. From the systematic physical characterizations including aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy, Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy, it was discovered that a unique structure with the coexistence of nitrogen-coordinated single iron atoms and Fe/Fe2C nanocrystals had been formed.

Abstract:FePS3@C nanocomposites are successfully synthesized by a facile two-step route. The as-synthesized samples show excellent thermal and environmental stability. As a novel anode material for lithium batteries, the FePS3@C nanocomposites exhibit a high capacity of 1000 mA h g(-1) at a current density of 0.2 A g(-1) and excellent reversibility over 100 cycles, indicating their promising applications in lithium storage.

Abstract:In this paper, we described a simple two–step method for preparing needle-like CoNi2S4/CNT/graphene nanocomposite with robust connection among its ternary components. The prepared CoNi2S4/CNT/graphene nanocomposite has been thoroughly characterized by spectroscopic (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. Microscopy techniques (scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy) were employed to probe the morphological structures. The electrochemical properties of the as-prepared 3D architectures were investigated with three and two-electrode systems. In addition to its high specific capacitance (710Fg−1 at 20Ag−1), after charging–discharging for 2000 cycles, the electrode still maintained the capacity retention of about 82%. When used as the active electrode material for supercapacitors, the fabricated CoNi2S4–g–CNT nanostructure exhibited excellent specific capacitance and good rate capability, making it a promising candidate for next-generation supercapacitors.

Abstract:We present the first report concerning the one-step synthesis of Ni/graphene nanocomposites via a substrate-free, atmospheric-pressure chemical vapor deposition process. The as-grown thin graphene sheets are produced in large scale with the thickness of ∼2nm, and they are decorated with numerous Ni/graphene core–shell nanoparticles. The nucleation and growth mechanism of the composite has been proposed based on careful transmission electron microscopy analysis. Ni3C domains within Ni nanoparticles have been observed, indicating a transformation between nickel and nickel carbide during graphene growth owing to the diffuse and precipitation of carbon atoms. Moreover, such Ni/graphene nanocomposites exhibit excellent microwave absorption and electrochemical ethanol sensing properties. This study opens up a new synthesis route for graphene-based materials.

Abstract:A (Fe2.5Ti0.5)(1.04)O-4-graphene nanocomposite was prepared by using a gas/liquid interfacial synthesis approach. The as-prepared nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The transmission electron microscopy characterization results indicate that (Fe2.5Ti0.5)(1.04)O-4 nanoparticles were successfully deposited onto the surfaces of graphene sheets during the gas/liquid interfacial reaction process. The electrochemical performances were evaluated by using coin-type cells versus metallic lithium. The (Fe2.5Ti0.5)(1.04)O-4-graphene nanocomposite exhibited a high reversible specific capacity of 1048 mAh g(-1) after 60 cycles at a specific current of 300 mA g(-1) and good rate capability, even at a high specific current of 2000 mA g(-1), the reversible specific capacity was still as high as 480 mAh g(-1). Most importantly of all, the (Fe2.5Ti0.5)(1.04)O-4-graphene nanocomposite also showed excellent cyclic stability (1113 mAh g(-1) after 100 cycles at the specific current of 300 mA g(-1)). These results indicate that the (Fe2.5Ti0.5)(1.04)O-4-graphene nanocomposite is a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this work, a FeSn2/graphene nanocomposite was synthesized by a facile in situ one-pot solvothermal route. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectra (RS) results indicated that the formation of FeSn2 and the reduction of graphite oxide (GO) to graphene occur simultaneously during the one-pot solvothermal process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations showed that the quasi-spheric FeSn2 particles with a size of 10-30 nm are uniformly anchored on graphene. The electrochemical Li-storage performance of the nanocomposite was investigated by galvanostatic cycling. The nanocomposite exhibits an obvious improved electrochemical performance compared to bare FeSn2. The enhancement of the electrochemical performance could be attributed to the introduction of graphene that not only constructs two-dimensional conductive networks but also disperses and confines the FeSn2 nanoparticles.

Abstract:Ni(OH)2/graphitized carbon nitride (g-C3N4)/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) ternary synthetics were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The effect of different mass ratios of the three components on the microstructure, morphology and electrochemical properties of the synthetics was investigated. The outside microstructure and extent of redox of the material were characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, nitrogen adsorption and TEM. The composite properties of the synthetics were examined use cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The consequences reveal that the ternary composite represents three-dimensional slice space interlaced structure when the quality proportion of Ni(OH)2, g-C3N4 and RGO are 16:1:1, and the ΔE is 0.218 V. When the current density is 1 A/g, the specific capacitance of the synthetic material is 516.9 F/g. After 3 000 cycles of charge-discharge, the capacity retention rate is 74.3%, which revealedoutstanding electrochemical performance.

Abstract:Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-based magnetic nanocomposites have attracted significant research interest owing to their great potentialities in various technological fields. In this investigation, a kind of novel Fe3O4/CNTs magnetic nanocomposites were prepared by in situ chemical precipitation using oleate as reactant and surfactant at the liquid–liquid interface of cyclohexane/ethanol/water mixture solvent. The as-prepared samples were characterized via transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and vibration sample magnetometry (VSM). Results indicated that the Fe3O4/CNTs magnetic nanocomposites dispersed well in organic medium were prepared organic medium, were prepared. The magnetic nanocomposites were proved to be superparamagnetic with coercive force of 3.69Oe. A mechanism scheme was proposed to illustrate the formation process of the magnetic nanocomposites.

Abstract:Highly stable Fe–Ni alloy nanoparticles encapsulated in carbon nanotubes have been synthesized by in situ catalytic decomposition of benzene over Fe–Ni alloy nanoparticles generated through procedures of sol–gel fabrication and hydrogen reduction. The phases of graphite and γ-FeNi solid solution (face centered cubic) were identified by X-ray diffraction. The results of FE-SEM and HRTEM characterization revealed that Fe–Ni nanoparticles encapsulated in carbon nanotubes are generated in large quantity. The composites are highly stable in air and show soft magnetic property, with saturation magnetization affected by the composition of Fe–Ni alloy and the temperature of benzene decomposition.

Abstract:In this work, FeP/C/CNT nanocomposites were synthesised efficiently and conveniently by one‐step solid‐phase synthesis, and excellent electrochemical properties of FeP/C/CNT material electrode materials were demonstrated by assembling asymmetric supercapacitors and lithium‐ion half batteries. Iron phosphide (FeP) is a promising electrochemical energy storage material due to easy to obtain and high theoretical capacity. However, the intrinsic poor conductivity and the large volume change during charging and discharging process, result in a sharp decline in capacity and short cycle life for FeP. In this work, the FeP/C/CNT nanocomposite was synthesized efficiently and conveniently by one‐step solid‐phase synthesis method. Amorphous carbon‐coated FeP particles are embedded in a three‐dimensional network structure composed of highly conductive carbon nanotubes, drastically enhancing the conductivity of FeP and reducing the volume expansion during charging and discharging. In the three‐electrode system, the FeP/C/CNT composites showed good electrochemical performance, with a specific capacity as high as 124.4 mAh g−1 at 1 A g−1. Meanwhile, the constructed Ni2P@C/CNT//FeP/C/CNT asymmetric supercapacitor delivered a high energy density (70.73 Wh kg−1), power density (7.9 kW kg−1) and a long cycle life (10000 cycles). In addition, as served as an anode material in the lithium ion battery, the FeP/C/CNT composite also displayed as high as 601.8 mAh g−1of specific capacity at 0.1 A g−1 and a good cycle stability, showing superior electrochemical performance. The above work provides a promising composite material for supercapacitors and lithium ion batteries. Moreover, the solid‐state preparation methods can provide a reference for the synthesis of transition metal phosphides.

Abstract:Carbon nanocomposites are widely used in hydrogen storage materials and high-capacity electrode materials due to their unique structures and excellent performances. In this study, an FeS-CNF composite material is prepared with FeS nanoparticles either embedded in or attached to carbon fibers by electrospinning. The FeS nanoparticles are uniformly and tightly anchored on the surface of the carbon nanofibers. The structure and morphology of FeS-CNFs are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). As an alkaline battery anode, the FeS-CNF composite material has superior charging and discharging capacity and excellent cycling stability without any conductive additives. At the current density of 2 A g−1, the specific capacitance of FeS-CNFs reaches 503 F g−1; over 80% of initial capacitance is retained as the current density improves from 2 to 10 A g−1 and it also exhibits an excellent cycling performance with 90% capacitance retention after 1000 times charge/discharge cycles. The excellent electrochemical performance is attributed to the synergistic effect between FeS and carbon nanofibers, which shortens ion diffusion paths and effectively prevents sulfide volume expansion.

Abstract:Reduced graphene oxide-nickel cobaltite (RGO-NiCo2O4) nanocomposites have been successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method with the assistance of Poly (diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA). PDDA is used as a reducing agent, capping agent and a stabilizer. The prepared RGO-NiCo2O4 nanocomposites have been thoroughly characterized by spectroscopic (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and thermogravimetric analysis. Microscopy techniques (scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy) were employed to probe the morphological structures as well as to investigate the exfoliation of RGO sheets. The nanocomposites exhibited superior performance to NiCo2O4 as electrodes in pseudocapacitors with capacitance of 676.1 F/g. This is attributed to the increased electrical conductivity and the creation of new active sites due to the synergetic effect of RGO and NiCo2O4 nanoparticles.

Abstract:A one-pot/one-step synthesis strategy was developed for the preparation of a nitrogen-doped carbon nanoarchitecture with graphene-nanosheet growth on the inner surface of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The N-graphene/CNT hybrids exhibit outstanding electrocatalytic activity for several important electrochemical reactions as a result of their unique morphology and defect structures, such as high but uniform nitrogen doping, graphene insertion into CNTs, considerable surface area, and the presence of iron nanoparticles. The high-yield synthetic process features high efficiency, low-cost, straightforward operation, and simple equipment.

Abstract:Graphene anchored with nanocrystal Fe2O3 was synthesized by a two-step solvothermal route. The nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was found that the Fe2O3 nano-particles were formed and homogeneously anchored on graphene sheets. The electrochemical properties of the nanocomposite were investigated by galvanostatic cycling. The results showed that the Fe2O3/graphere nanocomposite exhibits obviously improved electrochemical properties compared to bare Fe2O3 because of the buffering, confining and conducting effects of the introduced grapheme.
