Abstract:Amphiphilic blue-fluorescence carbon dots (B-CDs) were synthesized via pyrolysis method with citric acid and oleamine as precursors. B-CDs are monodispersed in ethanol, toluene, and ultrapure water with the average particle sizes of 3.33 nm, 2.05 nm, and 4.12 nm, respectively. The maximum emission wavelength of the B-CDs excitation at 370 nm is located at 459 nm. The B-CDs have good optical properties with excellent photostability. The fluorescence quantum yield (QY) of the as-prepared CDs is as high as 30.17%. The fluorescence of B-CDs is quenched because of static quenching by oxytetracycline. A high selective and sensitive fluorescence probe for detecting oxytetracycline was constructed with a linear range of 1.52-27.60 µg/mL and the detection limit of 0.33 µg/mL. The B-CDs-based fluorescence probe can be applied to analyze oxytetracycline in milk; the recoveries and relative standard are satisfactory. Furthermore, the B-CDs were exploited for imaging of SH-SY5Y cells. The results demonstrate that as-synthesized CDs can serve as a cellular imaging reagent owing to remarkable bioimaging performance. This work provides a new strategy for the detection of oxytetracycline in food.

Abstract:Doxycycline (DOX) has been used extensively in the control of animal diseases, which leads to its large-scale accumulation in water and causes serious pollution problems. In this study, a BODIPY-based fluorescent probe named DOX-BOD was synthesized by a one-pot method. The qualitative and quantitative detection of DOX was achieved by the specific response effect of DOX-BOD on DOX. DOX-BOD showed excellent performance and its fluorescence intensity decreased with the increase in DOX concentration. Besides, the detection limit was as low as 0.91 mu M. The DOX detection method based on BODIPY fluorescent probe has good reproducibility and stability, and can be used for rapid and high-sensitivity detection of DOX residues in the water environment, which is of great significance for environmental monitoring.

Abstract:Tetracyclines residues, particularly oxytetracycline (OTC) and tetracycline (TC), have raised extensive concern because of their serious adverse effects on human health. Herein, a dual-response fluorescent probe based on nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) and Eu3+ hybrid (N-CDs-Eu3+) was developed to selectively determine OTC and TC. The N-CDs act as ancillary ligands of Eu3+ and recognition units of OTC/TC, while the Eu3+ ions chelated with N-CDs can also specifically recognize OTC/TC. Upon inclusion of OTC/TC, an enhancement in Eu3+ emission occurs due to the energy transfer from OTC/TC to Eu3+ and the efficient elimination of quenching effect caused by H2O molecule, which is attributed to the incorporation of N-CDs; while the blue fluorescence emitted by the N-CDs decreases under the inner filter effect and static quenching effect caused by OTC/TC. Based on the double and reverse response signals, the ratiometric detection of OTC and TC in the range of 0.1-45 μΜ and 0.1-30 μΜ is achieved with a detection limit of 0.017 and 0.041 μM, respectively. In addition, the noticeable variation in fluorescence color of the probe is integrated with a smartphone-assisted analysis device for the rapid on-site quantitative assay of OTC, where the detection limit is 0.15 μΜ. The results show that this probe performs with excellent specificity and anti-interference for both OTC and TC, and satisfactory detection results are obtained in lake water, milk, and honey samples, thereby confirming that the probe exhibits promising application in food safety and environmental monitoring.

Abstract:Tetracycline residues in animal-derived food pose serious harm to human health, making it demanded to develop simple and sensitive method for detecting tetracycline. Herein, a dual-emission synchronous response fluorescence probe is reported based on amino-functionalized Al-MOF modulated TpTt-COF (donate as NMT). NMT exhibits excellent dual-emission at 455 and 575 nm under single excitation. Tetracycline is sensitively detected through quenching the dual-emission of NMT. NMT specifically recognizes tetracycline through intermolecular hydrogen bonding between -OH/-NH2 of tetracycline and deprotonated O-/-NH-/CN of NMT. A calibration curve is built between the fluorescence ratio and the tetracycline concentration with a detection limit of 0.014 μmol/L. NMT is employed to detect tetracycline in milk, pork and chicken, and displays satisfactory recoveries of 94.39-105.67%, respectively. The optosmart sensor based on NMT and smartphone has been constructed for visually detecting tetracycline. This method provides routes to construct MOF-COF fluorescence probes and has good prospects in food analysis.

Abstract:Developing sensitive and effective methods to monitor oxytetracycline residues in food is of great significance for maintaining public health. Herein, a fluorescent sensor (NH2-UIO-66 (Zr)@MIP) based on a molecularly imprinted polymer-coated amino-functionalized zirconium (IV) metal–organic framework was successfully constructed and first used for the ultrasensitive determination of oxytetracycline. NH2-UIO-66 (Zr), with a maximum emission wavelength of 455 nm under 350 nm excitation, was prepared using a microwave-assisted heating method. The NH2-UIO-66 (Zr)@MIP sensor with specific recognition sites for oxytetracycline was then acquired by modifying a molecularly imprinted polymer on the surface of NH2-UIO-66 (Zr). The introduction of NH2-UIO-66 (Zr) as both a signal tag and supporter can strengthen the sensitivity of the fluorescence sensor. Thanks to the combination of the unique characteristics of the molecularly imprinted polymer and NH2-UIO-66 (Zr), the prepared sensor not only exhibited a sensitive fluorescence response, specific identification capabilities and a high selectivity for oxytetracycline, but also showed good fluorescence stability, satisfactory precision and reproducibility. The fabricated sensor displayed a fluorescent linear quenching in the OTC concentration range of 0.05–40 μg mL−1, with a detection limit of 0.012 μg mL−1. More importantly, the fluorescence sensor was finally applied for the detection of oxytetracycline in milk, and the results were comparable to those obtained using the HPLC approach. Hence, the NH2-UIO-66 (Zr)@MIP sensor possesses great application potential for the accurate evaluation of trace oxytetracycline in dairy products.

Abstract:Owing to the adverse effects of oxytetracycline (OTC) residues on human health, it is of great importance to construct a rapid and effective strategy for OTC detection. Herein, we developed a dual-response fluorescence sensing platform based on molybdenum sulfide quantum dots (MoS2 QDs) and europium ions (Eu3+) for ratiometric detection of OTC. The MoS2 QDs, synthesized through an uncomplicated one-step hydrothermal approach, upon OTC integration into the MoS2 QDs/Eu3+ sensing system, exhibit a significant quenching of blue fluorescence due to the inner filter effect (IFE), simultaneously enhancing the distinct red emission of Eu3+ at 624 nm, a phenomenon attributed to the antenna effect (AE). This sensor demonstrates exceptional selectivity and sensitivity towards OTC, characterized by a linear detection range of 0.2-10 μM and a notably low detection limit of 2.21 nM. Furthermore, we achieved a visual semi-quantitative assessment of OTC through the discernible fluorescence color transition from blue to red under a 365 nm ultraviolet lamp. The practical applicability of this sensor was validated through the successful detection of OTC in milk and mutton samples, underscoring its potential as a robust tool for OTC monitoring in foodstuffs to safeguard food safety.

Abstract:Oxytetracycline (OTC) is an environmental pollutant caused by the abuse of antibiotics, and its content in water is closely related to human health. Therefore, the development of a simple, rapid, and accurate method to detect OTC has become desirable. In this work, a ratiometric fluorescence probe based on deep red emissive CdTe quantum dots (QDs) modified by mercaptopropionic acid and Eu3+ is developed to accurately and rapidly detect OTC in water. After the addition of OTC, the photoluminescence intensity of CdTe QDs at 698 nm remains almost unchanged, while the peak at 617 nm intensifies within 40 s due to the coordination of Eu3+ with OTC. An excellent linear relationship is present between the photoluminescence intensity ratio of I617/I698 and the concentration of OTC. The limit of detection of the probe towards OCT is 5.4 nM. In addition, the probe shows good selectivity and anti-interference ability for OTC in the presence of other antibiotics, including other antibiotics, ions, and amino acids. The probe has been successfully applied to detect OTC in actual samples, demonstrating its potential for environmental application.

Abstract:The specific detection of oxytetracycline (OTC) residues is significant for food safety and environmental monitoring. However, rapid specific determination of OTC from various tetracyclines is still challenging due to their similar chemical structures. Here, nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs) with excitation and pH-dependent optical properties and a high-fluorescence quantum yield were successfully synthesized, which were directly employed to fabricate a dual-response fluorescence probe by self-assembly with Eu3+ (NCDs/Eu3+) for the ratiometric determination of OTC. The addition of OTC into the probe greatly enhances the characteristic emission of Eu3+ due to the “antenna effect”, and the incorporation of NCDs into the probe further improves the Eu3+ fluorescence by remarkably weakening the quenching effect caused by H2O molecules and efficiently shortening the distance of energy transfer from OTC to Eu3+. Meanwhile, the fluorescence of NCDs apparently decreases due to aggregation-caused quenching. The results demonstrate that a ratiometric detection of OTC (0.1–25 μM) with a detection limit of 29 nM based on the double response signals is achieved. Additionally, visual semi-quantitative assay of OTC can be realized with the naked eye under a 365 nm UV lamp according to the fluorescence color change of the as-fabricated probe. This probe exhibits acceptable specificity and anti-interference for OTC assay, holding promise for the fast detection of OTC in real water and milk samples.

Abstract:Biomass carbon dots (CDs) prepared by sweet potato peels were superior fluorophores with low toxicity and excellent photostability. A novel designed fluorescence probe for specific recognition and sensitive detection of oxytetracycline (OTC) was fabricated with CDs and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). The quenching of CDs happened when rebinding with OTC due to electron-transfer-induced fluorescence quenching mechanism. The fluorescence probe was successfully applied in honey with the recoveries ranging from 90.2% to 97.3%. The detection limit of OTC was 15.3ngmL−1. This work provides promising perspectives that the development of fluorescent MIP will be valuable for rapid analysis in complex samples.

Abstract:<p>A carbon dot (CD)-based fluorometric probe for oxytetracycline (OTC) detection utilizing a Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) mechanism was firstly developed. Upon addition of OTC, the blue fluorescence of the CDs peaked at 405 nm was quickly quenched, with a new fluorescence peaked at 505 nm attributed to OTC was observed within 30 s. A visual fluorescent color change of the CDs solution from blue to green was discerned under a 365 nm UV light irradiation. The CDs displayed a high sensitivity and selectivity toward OTC with a low detection limit of 0.41 μM. Furthermore, the probe was applied to detect OTC in water, milk, and pork samples with a satisfied recovery.</p>

Abstract:The residue of doxycycline in food can cause harm to human. Therefore, the detection of doxycycline residue is necessary. Herein, a ratiometric fluorescent probe was designed based on sulfur quantum dots (S dots) and Ca2+. Due to static quenching and inter filter effect between doxycycline and S dots, doxycycline quenched fluorescence of S dots at 450 nm. Meanwhile, doxycycline and Ca2+ formed fluorescent complex through coordination to produce new peak at 520 nm. The ratio of fluorescence intensity (F520/F450) and doxycycline concentration showed good linear relationship with detection limit of 0.19 μM. The fluorescence color of S dots/Ca2+ changed from blue to light green with increasing doxycycline concentration, which was applied for visual semi-quantitative detection of doxycycline. Moreover, the method was used for detecting doxycycline in milk and fish samples with recoveries in the range of 91%-110%. The method showed good application potential in detection of doxycycline in food samples.

Abstract:Tetracycline (TC) residues are harmful to the environment and human body, so it is necessary to develop a highly sensitive probe for rapid detection of tetracycline residues. In the present paper, a novel dye-doped porous metal–organic framework (UiO-66)-based multi-color fluorescent nano-probe was designed for sensitive ratiometric detection of tetracycline (TC). In this probe, dye-molecules doped UiO-66 was used as a fluorescent internal standard, and the externally grafted lanthanide Eu3+ complex was used as response signals. The fluorescence of the Eu3+ complex was selectively enhanced with increasing concentrations of TC, which was accompanied by a visual blue-to-red color switch. The nano-probe had a linear response between 0.1 and 6 μM with a lowest detection limit of 17.9 nM, which was much lower than the maximum residue limits set by the United States Food and Drug Administration (676 nM) and the European Union (225 nM). The applicability of this method in the analysis of actual samples was evaluated by the determination of TC in honey and milk samples, indicating satisfactory recovery and good reproducibility. In addition, a cost-effective paper-based probe for rapid and visual detection of TC was developed by fixing the nano-probe on filter papers. With the help of a smartphone camera to capture the fluorescence color, and chromaticity analysis software, the calculation and analysis of red (R) and blue (B) values can be realized, which has the potential for real-time visual detection of TC.

Abstract:A novel fluorescent probe based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) coupled with N-doped carbon dots (CDs) was prepared and used for specific recognition and sensitive determination of tetracycline (TC). N-doped CDs were synthesized using citric acid as a carbon source and ethylenediamine as a nitrogen source by a microwave assisted pyrolysis method. The determination conditions such as the solvents, material amount, pH value, and temperature were optimized. The CDs-MIPs have the best quenching on TC in water. The proposed method used for TC determination in milk powder samples had a detection limit of 0.054 μg mL −1 and a wide range of 0.5–30 μg mL −1 . Meanwhile, satisfactory recoveries were obtained ranging from 95 to 108%. Oxytetracycline, chlorotetracycline and most of the coexisting substances showed no obvious interference indicating that the CDs-MIP probe exhibited high selectivity due to the presence of imprinted sites. Charge transfer from CDs-MIPs to TC may be through the mechanism of fluorescence quenching. This work gives a feasible strategy for the synthesis of N-doped carbon dot based molecularly imprinted polymers used as a fluorescent sensor in the food analysis field.

Abstract:Doxycycline (DOX) is extensively utilized as a broad-spectrum antibiotic in animals and aquaculture. However, excessive residues of DOX can endanger human health and ecosystems, adversely affecting sustainable development. A novel ratiometric fluorescent probe was designed for specific monitoring of DOX based on boron- and nitrogen-codoped carbon quantum dots encapsulated in metal-organic frameworks coupled with molecularly imprinted polymers (B,N-CQDs/ZIF-8@MIP). In the existence of DOX, the blue fluorescence was quenched owing to the inner filter effect, while the yellow-green fluorescence was enhanced due to the combination of DOX and Zn2+. Benefiting from the dual-signal strategy and the molecularly imprinted layer, the probe exhibited a wide linearity range (0.05-20 mg L-1), a favorable detection limit (LOD) of 14.21 ng mL(-1), a fast response time (5 min), and exceptional selectivity. The validity of the probe was verified by detecting DOX in lake water and milk with desirable recoveries (90.16-97.18%). Moreover, a portable sensing device based on a smartphone-integrated B,N-CQDs/ZIF-8@MIP was utilized to achieve DOX visual sensing with a clear color change and an LOD of 44.98 ng mL(-1). Therefore, the sensor with the advantages of portability, easy operation, and sensitivity showed tremendous application prospects for on-site detection in food and environmental safety.

Abstract:Rapid, sensitive and portable analytical methods for on-site detection of tetracycline (TC) in food samples is of critical importance for food safety and public health. In this study, a dual-emission ratio fluorescent probe (Gd0.9@Eu0.1) was prepared and utilized for the detection of tetracycline (TC) by observing the fluorescence color change from blue to red. The detection process exhibits a wide linear range (0-52.0 & mu;M), good selectivity and low detection limit (14 nM). A paper-based probe and a colorimetric card was constructed for the visual detection of TC. Furthermore, a novel and portable detection platform combining smartphone and test strip was exploited for the quantitative and on-site detection of TC in real pork sample. The developed method was validated through intra-(n = 5) and inter-day (n = 2) measurements, as well as comparison with a traditional HPLC method. These statistical result validate the reliability and accuracy of the developed method. This intelligent detection platform represents a promising approach for the rapid, sensitive and visual detection of TC in food samples.
A novel fluorescent biomimetic sensor based on cerium, nitrogen co-doped carbon quantum dots embedded in cobalt-based metal organic framework@molecularly imprinted polymer for selective and sensitive detection of oxytetracycline

Abstract:Since oxytetracycline (OTC) residues in foodstuff are very harmful to human health, it is urgent to develop an effective assay to monitor OTC. Herein, an innovative fluorescent biomimetic sensor (Ce, N-CDs@ZIF-67@MIP) based on cerium, nitrogen co-doped carbon quantum dots (Ce, N-CDs) embedded in cobalt-based metal organic framework (ZIF-67) combining with molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was triumphantly fabricated by a simple one-pot strategy and subsequently applied for the selective and sensitive detection of OTC. In this strategy, the modification of the surface imprint layer enabled the sensor to possess favorable anti-interference ability and specific recognition performance for OTC. The introduction of ZIF-67 with large specific surface area functioning as supporter significantly increased the mass transfer rate and shortened the response time, which improved the adsorption performance and detection sensitivity of Ce, N-CDs@ZIF-67@MIP. Meanwhile, the Ce, N-CDs featured with bright blue fluorescence (FL) and high fluorescence quantum yield (FLQY, 33.69%) were incorporated as a signal label to make the sensor generate measurable FL response signal according to the inner filter effect (IFE), achieving signal amplification. Thanks to the integrated merits of MIP, ZIF-67 and Ce, N-CDs, the constructed Ce, N-CDs@ZIF-67@MIP sensor not only displayed a favorable linear range (0.05–20 μg mL−1) with a low detection limit (0.015 μg mL−1), but also showed good precision and reproducibility (RSD). More importantly, the designed sensor was successfully used to quantitatively analyze OTC in milk samples, and the corresponding results were in accordance with those obtained by HPLC method. Therefore, the proposed Ce, N-CDs@ZIF-67@MIP sensor is expected to provide an efficient and sensitive FL detection platform for OTC evaluation in dairy products.

Abstract:The development of a simple, rapid, and sensitive method for monitoring antibiotic residues is crucial for maintaining food safety. Herein, a ratiometric fluorescence probe based on bimetallic organic framework (Eu/Zr-MOF) was developed for the detection of tetracycline (TC). The Eu/Zr-MOF was synthesized by the coordination of Eu3+ and Zr4+ with 2-APDC, which exhibited a grape-like cluster morphology and dual-emitting fluorescence at 430 nm/616 nm. Based on the internal filtering effect (IFE), significant fluorescence quenching was observed at 430 nm, whereas only slight changes occurred at 616 nm. The ratiometric sensing offered two broad linear ranges (0.5-8 μg/mL; 10-60 μg/mL) and a low detection limit (26.7 ng/mL). The proposed method was applied to the determination of TC in pork and water samples. Fluorescent sensors have the advantages of simple design, fast response, and high sensitivity, thus providing a promising means for evaluating the safety of food contaminated with TC.
Efficient Fabrication of Ratiometric Fluorescence Imprinting Sensors Based on Organic-Inorganic Composite Materials and Highly Sensitive Detection of Oxytetracycline in Milk

Abstract:Ratiometric fluorescence imprinting sensors (GQDs/CdTe@MIPs) were successfully constructed by precipitation polymerization method for the recognition and detection of oxytetracycline (OTC) in milk samples. GQDs/CdTe@MIPs were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), thermal gravity analysis (TGA), UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. A satisfying linear relationship under 0-80 mu M OTC concentration (R-2 = 0.99699) was exhibited. High sensitivity was showed with the limit of detection of 3.5 nM and high recovery ranged from 99.93% to 100.20%. In addition, the selectivity of GQDs/CdTe@MIPs to OTC was well comparing with other antibiotics. With the injection of different concentrations of OTC, the fluorescent color change of GQDs/CdTe@MIPs under the 365 nm UV lamp further verified that GQDs/CdTe@MIPs were used successfully for the visual detection to OTC in milk samples.
