Abstract:The Qiantang River originates in the borders of Anhui and Jiangxi provinces and passes through Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, before flowing into the East China Sea through Hangzhou Bay. It is known for the world's largest tidal bore, which is up to 9 meters high, and travels at up to 40 km per hour and has since ancient times been considered a spectacular sight. The Qiantang River tunnel, which was planned in 1996 and completed in 2010, is the first slurry shield tunnelling in Hangzhou soft ground, and also the first tunnel under Qiantang River. Whether the long-term impact of the surging tide will influence the normal service and structural safety of the under-river tunnel is concerned. In order to monitor the condition of the tunnel and study the impact of the tide on it, a structural health monitoring system was planed and applied in construction of the tunnel. Items of monitoring include the earth pressure acting on the shield tunnel lining, stain in the reinforcing steel bars of the segments, convergence of cross-section and long-term settlement in the longitudinal direction. Both traditional monitoring methods, such as the vibrating wire strain gauges, and the advanced fibre optic technology, such as distributed optical fibre strain sensing, were applied in this monitoring system. This paper describes the application of the structural health monitoring system in detail, including arrangement of monitoring sections, the installation of the instruments, and anticipated research achievements. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:According to data monitoring and automation requirements of shield construction,the monitoring system of shield machine based on industrial network architecture is designed by a combinative model of centralized monitoring and distributed control,then the structural characteristics of the hardware and software of the monitoring system was analysed in detail.Aimed at the earth pressure balance technology in the monitoring progress of the shield,the expertise database based on experimental data of different stratum has been established by the adaptive control method based on the soil identification to achieve the adaptive control of earth pressure in the process of shield tunneling.The monitoring software programs are developed by the combination of LabVIEW and Matlab,and the results show that the human-machine interface of the monitoring system with good maneuverability and high security and reliability is intuitive.

Abstract:Development of a perfect monitoring system is an important way to realize automatic construction of a shield. Modular design method is adopted to construct a control system of a tunneling test bench for large size shields. Water and soil pressures signals are collected with PXI instrument in real time and PLC controllers are utilized to logically control the tunneling test procedure for a shield,Based on Profibus field-bus technology,the system adopts master-slave communication network to realize data interacting among host computer,controllers and the machine to fulfill the site test control. The customer program is compiled with LabVlEW software to realize condition monitoring,parameters setting,data managing and failures alarming etc. A test result shows that the monitor system features stable operation,rapid data transfer,high anti-interference and high reliability.

Abstract:Visualized supervision and control system for shield tunnel boring machine was developed, according to the request of the upper workstation. The hardware design and software structure were introduced. Specially, logical judgment of working state and static and dynamic prediction model of earth surface level variation were given and analyzed. The solutions to avoid land surface sedimentation accruing were brought forward: ensuring the working state of the programs precisely at any time according to running state of the tunneling machine with using logical judgment formula; forecasting the quantities of the surface sedimentation comparatively exactly by evaluating on-line and visualized supervision means. It is testified that the system can supervise multi-subject, can forecast exactly, as well as can realize visualized evaluation and prediction on line.

Abstract:Aiming at the questions existed in the simulating test of shield tunnelling machine, a condition monitoring system of simulator test rig for shield tunnelling machine was designed using common configuration software “Kingview”, and the structure characteristics of hardware and software were also analyzed. The human machine interface of condition monitoring system was developed and designed, and the design idea was also expounded in detail. The experimental results show that the designed condition monitoring system has good operation performance and high security, which has been applied in the simulator tunnelling successfully.

Abstract:Real-time tunnel traffic safety monitoring system is an important means to ensure secure operation of tunnel.Aiming at the particularity of the environment in tunnel,a vehicle detection algorithm based on accumulation of difference depth matrix and a vehicle tracking algorithm based on Kalman filter are proposed,by which the detection and tracking of multiple moving vehicles are achieved.An intelligent tunnel traffic safety monitoring system based on video detection processing is designed in this paper using the techniques of image processing,computer vision,pattern recognition and software engineering,etc.The system can accurately detect various traffic operation parameters and traffic events,and provide strong guarantee for tunnel traffic safety.

Abstract:With the rapid development of urbanization in China, the number and size of underground space development projects are increasing quickly. At the same time, more and more accidents are causing underground construction to increasingly become a focus of social attention. Therefore, this research presents a real-time safety early warning system to prevent accidents and improve safety management in underground construction, based on the “internet of things” (IoT) technology. The proposed system seamlessly integrates a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system and a RFID (radio frequency identification)-based labor tracking system. This system has been validated and verified through a real-world application at the cross passage construction site in the Yangtze Riverbed Metro Tunnel project in Wuhan, China. The system's application results show that it can effectively promote underground construction safety management efficiency, specifically in the real time detection, monitoring and early warning of safety risks.

Abstract:Main factors influencing the railway tunnel running safety are analyzed, according to the running environment, equipment deployment and structural characteristics, by using new sensor technique, automatic monitoring technology and information processing techniques, the information system to ensure the railway tunnel running safety is put forward. The computer comprehensive management system of tunnel data collecting, supervision, monitoring, administrating and tunnel daily maintenance is integrated as a whole in this system, so that abnormal condition of tunnel can be discovered in time and timely rescue can be organized to decrease loss to the utmost extent; various data and information can be processed by the system; by decentralized detection, centralized alarm and unified management of data, comprehensive monitoring of video, audio, wireless channel and monitoring data is realized within an unified software platform; it provides related technique support of safety decisions, such as train traffic control, equipment maintenance and emergency rescue, etc, so as to ensure the railway tunnel running safety.

Abstract:Shield tunneling construction of metro infrastructure will continuously disturb the soils. The ground surface will be subjected to uplift or subsidence due to the deep excavation and the extrusion and consolidation of the soils. Implementation of the simultaneous monitoring with the shield tunnel construction will provide an effective reference in controlling the shield driving, while how to design and implement a safe, economic, and effective structural monitoring system for metro infrastructure is of great importance and necessity. This paper presents the general architecture of the shield construction of metro tunnels as well as the procedure of the artificial ground freezing construction of the metro-tunnel cross-passages. The design principles for metro infrastructure monitoring of the shield tunnel intervals in the Hangzhou Metro Line 1 are introduced. The detailed monitoring items and the specified alarming indices for construction monitoring of the shield tunneling are addressed, and the measured settlement variations at different monitoring locations are also presented.

Abstract:<span>Along with the development of computer science and communication techniques, tunnel monitoring has been digital and intellectualized gradually. In recent years, traditional tunnel monitoring systems have been becoming powerless to deal with huge amounts of data as the number of tunnels and monitoring sensors surge. In this study, an innovative and comprehensive intelligent tunnel monitoring system was designed based on micro-service architecture. Various function modules were distributed to multiple service instances to get the computing pressure decentralized. The system offered powerful massive data processing support, flexibility, and extensibility. For a certain tunnel, the system could acquire the monitoring data in real-time using wireless sensors deployed on its surface. When data reached the early warning threshold, the system would immediately transmit the warning message to users. Besides, an app was developed to offer support for wireless communication between the monitoring apparatus and watchers. The application of the Anping case, one of the monitoring targets, proved the high efficiency of data transmitting and effective emergency response of the developed system. The results indicated that the microservice architecture could facilitate algorithm development, decentralize calculation pressure, and promote the service capacity by decoupling components and distributing loads.</span>

Abstract:With sustainable developments in transportation facilities, the construction of the undersea tunnel has become inevitable. Controlling the construction and operation of the undersea tunnel structures dynamically and ensuring their safety is of primary concern. Therefore, using the rich water mountain section of the Lujiazhi subsea tunnel constructed by NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling Method) as a case study, an intelligent real-time tunnel health monitoring system integrating tunnel monitoring, wireless transmission and safety assessment was developed. The monitoring results show that the surrounding rock water pressure, earth pressure and stress of the secondary lining structure experienced stages of rapid change, continuous change and stability. The tunnel substructure is relatively weak as a whole, and the left invert is the weakest part of the whole structure. It was suggested to optimize and reinforce the tunnel substructure accordingly. The rationality of the tunnel drainage system and reliability of field test data are verified by numerical simulation. Finally, the real-time fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model of tunnel operation safety conditions based on online monitoring data is established to realise the real-time evaluation and early warning of Lujiazhi tunnel structures' health conditions. An intelligent real-time tunnel health monitoring system is developed. The deformation characteristics of submarine tunnel are revealed. The submarine tunnel drainage system rationality of lining structure are proved. The safety evaluation model of submarine tunnel structure is proposed.

Abstract:Traditional ventilation methods consume excessive energy but still fail to meet requirements in underground tunnel group construction. Thus, a closed-loop intelligent control system for ventilation-on-demand (VOD) was developed. To address dynamic changes in ventilation load and reduce energy consumption, firstly, the developed system calculates the real-time ventilation load and establishes a ventilation-network-based control mode to represent the ventilation system structure. The deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) method was then employed for the closed-loop control ensuring the required air volume in each branch of tunnel groups while minimizing energy consumption. After that, the developed closed-loop intelligent ventilation control system encompasses comprehensive perception, real analysis, real-time control, and continuous optimization. This system treats decision-making, control, and feedback as subsystems that reflect the adaptability between ventilation efficiency, construction progress, and power consumption. Finally, the end-edge-cloud-based software of the system was developed to enable remote control and display on large screens, personal computers (PCs), and mobile applications (Apps) to ensure precise and timely operation. The system was employed in tunnel group under construction at the Xulong Hydropower Station in Southwestern China, and the obtained results validate its advanced closed-loop control based on reinforcement learning (RL) and confirm its feasibility in engineering practice.

Abstract:Automatic monitoring system is one of the main means to ensure the safety of underground engineering construction. This paper summarizes the current international research and application status of the underground engineering monitoring system from three aspects of data acquisition, data transmission, and data processing and emphatically introduces the mainstream new technology of the monitoring system. Furthermore, this paper puts forward specific and implementable technical routes based on the current intelligent technology and the challenges faced by future monitoring, which can provide direction and reference for future research, including high-precision real-time acquisition and safe and reliable transmission of monitoring data, multisource data fusion, and the visual intelligent early warning platform.

Abstract:Tunnel structures account for la large proportion of the structures in mountain highway transportation systems. Most tunnels are located in remote areas in which the geological conditions are complex and harsh and in which the layout of the management facilities along the way is complex. Thus, the management and maintenance costs of various facilities are expensive, the cost of fire safety operations and management is high, and disaster prevention and rescue have a difficult time meeting the objective requirements. Therefore, it is urgent to carry out research on quasi-unmanned operations and intelligent remote monitoring. This study firstly proposes a fire safety intelligent monitoring framework for quasi-unattended tunnels. By making full use of various intelligent sensor monitoring data in the tunnel, the tunnel operation status can be grasped in real time. Then, a fire safety evaluation model can be established through the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and, based on the monitoring data, the AHP model parameters can be evaluated to realize the real-time evaluation and management of tunnel fire safety. Finally, on the basis of the fire safety intelligent monitoring system and the fire safety evaluation system, an adaptive fire rescue plan formulation scheme is proposed for the quasi-unattended tunnels so as to provide guaranteed support for the rapid automatic response of tunnel fire protection and to provide technical data support for the design and realization of intelligent and efficient tunnel management

Abstract:Abstract When metro shield passes through existing operating lines, it is necessary to carry out automatic monitoring of existing lines. Taking Changsha Metro Line 4 shield tunnelling through existing Metro Line 2 as an example, this paper carries out automatic deformation monitoring of existing Metro and judges the influence of shield tunnelling on existing Metro. According to the actual situation of the field, a whole set of automatic monitoring system is designed, and the detailed implementation plan is worked out. Finally, the deformation data are analysed, and the characteristics of the whole system are summarized.
