Abstract:Let $\alpha$ be a non-zero algebraic number. Let $K$ be the Galois closure of $\mathbb{Q}(\alpha)$ with Galois group $G$ and $\bar{\mathbb{Q}}$ be the algebraic closure of $\mathbb{Q}$. In this article, among the other results, we prove the following. If $f\in \bar{\mathbb{Q}}[G]$ is a non-zero element of the group ring $\bar{\mathbb{Q}}[G]$ and $\alpha$ is a given algebraic number such that $f(\alpha^n)$ is a non-zero algebraic integer for infinitely many natural numbers $n$, then $\alpha$ is an algebraic integer. This result generalizes the result of Polya [11], Corvaja and Zannier [2] and Philippon and Rath [9]. We also prove the analogue of this result for rational functions with algebraic coefficients. Inspired by a result of B. de Smit [4], we prove a finite version of the Polya type result for a binary recurrence sequences of non-zero algebraic numbers. In order to prove these results, we apply the techniques of Corvaja and Zannier along with the results of Kulkarni et al., [6] which are applications of the Schmidt subspace theorem.

Abstract:In a recent paper Vinay, Shweta, and Harshitha use Ramanujan's theta functions to prove several trigonometric equalities. Elementary proofs for some of these equalities were given by the author and Zeilberger, then for all but one by Berndt, Kim, and Zaharescu. The remaining equality was proved in the same paper of Berndt, Kim, and Zaharescu in a non-totally elementary way, in that it uses a result of Gauss in cyclotomy: here we give an elementary proof of the same equality. Also we show how to use automated tools to discover and prove some generalizations.

Abstract:In the article, the authors establish the monotonicity of the ratios \begin{equation*} \frac{B_{2n-1}(t)}{B_{2n+1}(t)}, \quad \frac{B_{2n}(t)}{B_{2n+1}(t)},\quad \frac{B_{2m}(t)}{B_{2n}(t)},\quad \frac{B_{2n}(t)}{B_{2n-1}(t)} \end{equation*} and derive some known and new inequalities of the Bernoulli polynomials $B_n(t)$, the Bernoulli numbers $B_{2n}$, and their ratios such as $\frac{B_{2n+2}}{B_{2n}}$.

Abstract:In this paper we establish some explicit congruences for Euler polynomials modulo a general positive integer. As a consequence, if a, m is an element of Z and 2 inverted iota m then m(k+1)/2 E-k (x+a/m) - (-1)(a)/2 E-k(x) is an element of Z[x] for every k = 0,1,2,..., which may be regarded as a refinement of a multiplication formula.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the value distribution of the differential polynomials $f^2f^{(k)}-1$ where $k$ is a positive integer, and obtain some estimates only by the reduced counting function. Our result answers a question in (Some inequalities of differential polynomials, Mathematical Inequalities and Applications, \textbf{12}(2009), no.1, 99--113) completely.

Abstract:We bound the greatest common divisor of two coprime multivariable polynomials evaluated at algebraic numbers, generalizing work of Levin, and going towards conjectured inequalities of Silverman and Vojta. As an application, we prove results on greatest common divisors of terms from two linear recurrence sequences, extending the results of Levin, who considered the case where the linear recurrences are simple, and improving recent results of Grieve and Wang. The proofs rely on Schmidt's Subspace Theorem.
