Abstract:A self-inclusive and integrated middleware system and its request functional component set were constructed in order to improve the efficiency, shorten the cycle and reduce the cost of developing the management information system (MIS). The semantic description system and the predicate calculus finite set were utilized, which are both based on the two-dimensional relation and have nothing to do with the concrete domain business. Thus the whole enterprise applications, such as design, development, integration, disposition, operation and management, can be fulfilled and covered completely free from the operation system and the program compiling environment, even then the resource sharing between different information systems can be realized. The management information ontology analysis and functional component design (MIOAFCD) on the middleware can approach rapidly the terminal application under MIS.

Abstract:System engineers have constructed and developed an intelligent management information system (IMIS) of the Electricity Bureau by means of CORBA, database and Multi-Agent, which is based on the facts of management and special operational requirements of the Electricity Bureau. The Electricity Bureau can implement the management information system and intelligently make computer-aided decision by means of IMIS. This paper introduces the structure and function of IMIS of the Electricity Bureau and puts forward various methods to develop IMIS. The application illustrates that IMIS can greatly improve work efficiency and management.

Abstract:When users issue a query to a database, they have expectations about the results. If what they search for is unavailable in the database, the system will return an empty result or, worse, erroneous mismatch results. We call this problem the MisMatch problem. In this paper, we solve the MisMatch problem in the context of XML keyword search. Our solution is based on two novel concepts that we introduce: target node type and Distinguishability. Target Node Type represents the type of node a query result intends to match, and Distinguishability is used to measure the importance of the query keywords. Using these concepts, we develop a low-cost post-processing algorithm on the results of query evaluation to detect the MisMatch problem and generate helpful suggestions to users. Our approach has three noteworthy features: (1) for queries with the MisMatch problem, it generates the explanation, suggested queries and their sample results as the output to users, helping users judge whether the MisMatch problem is solved without reading all query results; (2) it is portable as it can work with any lowest common ancestor-based matching semantics (for XML data without ID references) or minimal Steiner tree-based matching semantics (for XML data with ID references) which return tree structures as results. It is orthogonal to the choice of result retrieval method adopted; (3) it is lightweight in the way that it occupies a very small proportion of the whole query evaluation time. Extensive experiments on three real datasets verify the effectiveness, efficiency and scalability of our approach. A search engine called XClear has been built and is available at http://xclear.comp.nus.edu.sg.

Abstract:One major problem in semantics-based component retrieval process is the discrepancy between nature language which users are familiar with and formal semantic descriptions of components, which makes users difficult to describe retrieve queries precisely. An interactive query generation method is proposed to solve this problem. The method uses concept identification process to map users' nature language to ontology descriptions of components, in which concept identification uses conversational process to interact with users. This method extracts implicit semantics in user queries so that it leads to improve recall and precision rates, reduce query effort in component retrieval.

Abstract:A heterogeneous data integration system can integrate a broad range of data sources that provide different levels of query capabilities. Some data sources can only support simple scanning, such as file systems; some data sources can support query by using boolean expressions, such as text retrieval systems; some data sources can even support complex operations such as joining in relational database systems. The declarative approach, which uses some languages to express query capabilities of various data sources, is difficult to describe some particular limits for query processing, while the encapsulation approach leads to very complex wrappers. To simplify the design of wrappers for data sources with limited capabilities, a kind of approach, named compound approach, which can take advantage of all powers of various data sources, is proposed for query decomposition and optimization. Different from the declarative approach and the encapsulation approach proposed formerly, the compound approach only needs brief declarations of basic query powers, but leaves the minute details of the capabilities and restrictions of the underlying data sources encapsulated in their wrappers. The concept of capability vector is proposed for describing basic query powers of data sources. Furthermore, with subsuming queries and filters of OIM algebra operations, the way for processing of queries basically supported in wrappers is given.

Abstract:University scientific research achievement MIS, as a key link in the scientific research MIS, was emphasized by the research management offices, on the increasing achievement data authority, the programmable and complete management process, and the evaluation system of input-output coefficient of research project, aimed to provide data for discovering knowledge on mined project-achievement association rules. Fulfilling the requisitions above, we have designed and implemented Tsinghua Scientific Research Achievement MIS. This MIS, including functions of multi-source data collecting, role access authenticating, state automaton controlling and data association mining, enhanced research statistics methods, normalized the achievement data management process, offered a first-class advanced information service to the university offices of research development and decision-making.

Abstract:Driven by the continuous expansions of software applications and the increases in component varieties and sizes, the so-called component mismatch problem has become a more severe hurdle for component selection and integration. Although many component repositories and search tools have been proposed, so far there is no satisfactory solution which simultaneously achieves the following goals: automated, semantic-based, and precise. This paper presents a novel component repository and associated search tool which implements holistic semantic-based and adaptation-aware component specification and retrieval. The repository and tool is based on a Multiple-View and Interrelated Component Specification ontology model (MVICS), which has a smooth integration with domain related software system ontologies. The MVICS provides a formally defined and ontology-based architecture to specify components automatically in a spectrum of perspectives. The integration enhances the function and application scope of the MVICS model by bringing domain semantics into component specification and retrieval. The repository and search tool contributes to the current state of the art with four unique features: ontology-based component specification mechanism, semantic-based component retrieval method, adaptive component matching, and a comprehensive result component profile. The repository and tool has been widely tested and evaluated via its online version and follow-on survey reports, which concluded that they are effective for avoiding the component mismatch problem and is promising for industrial use.

Abstract:This paper presents a design and development of a query system for distributed heterogeneous data sources. The query system can formulate an effective query over relational databases, text files, and XML documents. Through the schema manager, the query system creates an integrated schema after reading the data dictionaries of the various data sources. Query manager can break down a query, which is generated over the integrated schema by users, based on the connection and configuration information of system and dispatch them to the individual data sources. The results form different data sources will be returned and merged, then present them to users in a view. The system can perform queries over heterogeneous data sources effectively.

Abstract:In the past few years, executing high-concurrency queries with interactive SQL query engines on Hadoop has become an important activity for many organizations. However, these systems do not adopt Multi-Query Optimization (MQO) to accelerate the process. There are two major concerns. Firstly, traditional MQO researches assume that multiple queries have high similarity. However, these systems usually serve a variety of applications. Although queries from the same application have high similarity, queries from different applications may have low similarity, so using traditional MQO will be inefficient and time consuming. Secondly, integrating MQO may lead to lots of system modifications. To integrate MQO into interactive SQL query engines on Hadoop efficiently, a query grouping-based MQO framework is proposed. A lightweight mechanism is used to represent SQL queries, on which a grouping method is exploited to speed up the optimization process. A cost model is integrated to estimate the execution cost of interactive SQL query engines on Hadoop. By using the proposed framework, we modify Impala system to support MQO, and the experimental results on TPC-DS show significant performance improvements.

Abstract:Spent Fuel Reprocessing is a part of nuclear fuel cycle and is the inevitably choice of nuclear power sustainable development. The reprocessing needs to face with radiological, criticality and chemical hazards. It is beneficial supplements that using the appraisal method of based on spent fuel reprocessing system security engineering capability maturity model. Experts should check and approve large numbers of documents during the appraisal based on the model, so it is necessary that developing a tool to assist the expert to complete the appraisal. The method of developing software based on component is highly effective, nimble and reliable. Analyzing component technology, using metadata model, we design a flexible general query component. Abstract:Conventional search engines usually return a ranked list of web pages in response to a query. Users have to visit several pages to locate the relevant parts. A promising future search scenario should involve: (1) understanding user intents; (2) providing relevant information directly to satisfy searchers' needs, as opposed to relevant pages. In this paper, we present a search paradigm to summarize a query's information from different aspects. Query aspects could be aligned to user intents. The generated summaries for query aspects are expected to be both specific and informative, so that users can easily and quickly find relevant information. Specifically, we use a Composite Query for Summarization" method, where a set of component queries are used for providing additional information for the original query. The system leverages the search engine to proactively gather information by submitting multiple component queries according to the original query and its aspects. In this way, we could get more relevant information for each query aspect and roughly classify information. By comparative mining the search results of different component queries, it is able to identify query (dependent) aspect words, which help to generate more specific and informative summaries. The experimental results on two data sets, Wikipedia and TREC ClueWeb2009, are encouraging. Our method outperforms two baseline methods on generating informative summaries.

Abstract:Specific to Math Information Retrieval is combining text with mathematical formulae both in documents and in queries. Rigorous evaluation of query expansion and merging strategies combining math and standard textual keyword terms in a query are given. It is shown that techniques similar to those known from textual query processing may be applied in math information retrieval as well, and lead to a cutting edge performance. Striping and merging partial results from subqueries is one technique that improves results measured by information retrieval evaluation metrics like Bpref.

Abstract:How to help reusers retrieve components efficiently and conveniently is critical to the success of the component-based software development (CBSD). In the literature, many research efforts have been put into the improvement of component retrieval mechanisms. Although many different retrieval methods have been proposed, nowadays the component description text is still an important information source for retrieval. Unfortunately, the descriptions of components often contain improper or even noisy information which could deteriorate the effectiveness of the retrieval mechanism. To alleviate the problem, in this paper, we propose an approach which can refine the component description by mining user query logs. The key idea of our approach is to extract proper information from the user query logs to amend the description of the component. Besides, logs from similar components are also taken into consideration. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we performed an experimental study on the JDK. The experimental results demonstrated an improvement in terms of retrieval effectiveness.
