Abstract:Electing the words of the year has a long tradition in Germany. In contrast to that, it has been established just recently in China. This paper analyzes the criteria and selection process of these words. Furthermore, it investigates closely the change these words have experienced during the past years as well as the sociocultural aspects of the society derived from them. This linguistic and sociocultural analysis of Chinese trend words lead to the conclusion that the words of the year can be seen as a mirror reflecting the change of a language and its society.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper's study is to educate Chinese people who study Korean in new words that include Chinese characters. To this end, the research method and contents of the research were extracted from all new words published in the 『Seoul Economy』and『Asia Economy』from 2020 to 2023. The extracted new words were classified into morphological and semantic categories and analyzed. Through this, the morphological characteristics and semantic results are summarized as follows. First, when categorized in morphology, three-syllable new words accounted for the largest proportion. Second, when looking at languages style, the most common complex style with “Han + Go” appeared. Third, the proportion of each new word classification that includes Chinese characters according to the coined language method was in the order of abbreviation > synthesis > hybrid > borrowing > folding > prefix. Fourth, based on meaningful classification, social and cultural phenomena such as “social phenomena in which dating violence frequently occurred,” “serious employment difficulties,” and “increase of single-person households and the current pursuit of happiness” can be seen. New words are created by changes in cultural background or social phenomena. Therefore, if linked with social and cultural backgrounds, more effective vocabulary education can be achieved.

Abstract:The contemporary Chinese new homonyms refer to the words which were newly produced in contemporary Chinese,spelt and pronounced like the old words.Their origin is complex,but mainly produced in the standard spoken Chinese,or came from foreign languages or from Hong Kong and Taiwan areas.New homonyms' quantity is huge,and is also being produced unceasingly.Different kinds of new homonyms are different from one another in using scope and language using color.Moreover,they are quite imbalanced interiorly.People don't have sufficient understanding on new homonyms yet,and they may often misuse them when they apply or research on them in practice.Therefore,we should pay attention to them and hurry to research into them.

Abstract:In order to verify the current use as well as the trend of foreign-originated words in the Chinese language,a corpus-based quantitive research is employed.The results show an important but undervalued fact that foreign-originated words,including the most disputable transliterated and transferred ones,are highly accepted and frequently used in modern Chinese;and it seems that they will be used even more in the future.Therefore,dynamic approaches should be introduced and a constructive foreign-originated words corpus should be created for further researches.

Abstract:the research on modern Chinese vocabulary in ontology and application of 2014 has made fruitful achievements and great progress. In ontology, its achievements includes lexical semantics, dialect words, new words, word class, word-formation, lexicalization, idioms and vocabulary theory, etc. In application, its achievements include the compilation of dictionaries, vocabulary teaching and acquisition, and the research of vocabulary from the perspective of Chinese information processing, etc. Compared with the research on modern Chinese vocabulary in 2013, the number of research achievements in 2014 dramatically reduced. Thus, we believe that the research of vocabulary has the good year and the bad year, which has enlightening significance for our research.

Dynamics of Language in Social Emergency: Investigating COVID-19 Hot Words on Weibo.

Abstract:Drawing on word embeddings techniques and tracking the frequency and semantic change of hot words on Sina Weibo during the COVID-19 pandemic, this study investigates how language and discourse change during crisis. More specifically, correlation tests were conducted between word frequency ranks, pandemic data, and word meaning change ratio. Results indicated that the frequency of some hot words changed with both pandemic data and the frequency of other hot words, which were significantly correlated with the American pandemic data rather than that of China. Moreover, February of 2020 saw the most distinctive semantic changes marked by a large part of the nearest neighbors for WAR metaphors. The correlations between changes in the frequency and nearest neighbors of COVID-19 related hot words exhibited some acceptable peculiarities. This study proves the availability of studying discourse through language change by observing minor semantic change on connotation level from social media, which adds a new perspective to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract:the research on modern Chinese vocabulary of 2015 has made fruitful achievements both in ontology and application. On the ontology level, there are achievements in morphology, lexicalization, lexical semantics, minority language vocabulary, and dialect words, etc. On the application level, there are achievements in vocabulary teaching and acquisition, dictionary compilation, words use and standalization, etc. On the whole, the research includes microcosmic view and macroscopic analysis, with a wider range and increasingly rich research perspective. However, there are still some research weaknesses, such as lettered-words, loanwords, Chinese information processing and cross-straits vocabulary. Their intensity, breadth and depth have yet to be further strengthened. Besides, corpus, database and other information technology are paid more attention to, which is the trend of applied lexicology development.

And the author investigates the current situation and existing problems of using mobile Apps to study vocabulary. Intelligent App application in college English vocabulary learning can effectively enlarge students' vocabulary breadth and depth and motivate their interest in English learning.

Abstract:Culturally-loaded words and expressions are the direct and indirect reflection of national culture in the structure of words and expressions. Improper use of culturally-loaded words may result in misunderstanding in cross-cultural communication. Abstract:the research results of modern Chinese vocabulary ontology in 2019 were mainly reflected in the aspects of meaning,category words, word evolution, vocabulary theory and so on. The applied research results were mainly reflected in thesaurus compilation, word teaching and acquisition, word comparison and so on. On the whole, the vocabulary research was characterized by the combination of microscopic investigation and macroscopic analysis, the co-progress of theoretical exploration and applied research, the relative emphasis on diachronic perspective, and the continuous progress of research scale and research technology. In that year, the number of lexical research results increased significantly, and the relevance of the research results with seminars and project proposals was further enhanced, which continuously promoted the research of modern Chinese lexicology to a more far-reaching direction.

Abstract:An inquiry paradigm is the sum of positions and beliefs on ontological,epistemological and methodological levels that drive the research in a certain field.The four major research paradigms of social sciences,namely,positivism,postpostivism,critical theory and constructivism,have a powerful influence over all research fields within social sciences,including the field of language testing.With measurement as its core activity,language testing has,for a long time,been dominated by positivism.However,over the last few decades,influenced by the development of inquiry paradigms in social sciences,a richer variety of paradigms has appeared in language testing.However,owing to factors such as the essential attribute of language testing,in the future positivism and postpositivism will most likely retain their dominance in the field.Studies featuring a mixed-paradigm,namely a combination of alternative paradigms such as critical theory and constructivism,and the more traditional paradigms,will also have a lasting influence on language testing research.
