Modular Configuration Design Method for Numerical Control Machine Tools Based on Multi-domain Mutual-use

Abstract:To realize type selection and optimum configuration of grading functional units for numerical control (NC) machine tools, a modular configuration design method for NC machine tools based on multi-domain mutual-use (MDMU) is put forward. The modules are defined by mechanical-electrical-hydraulic characteristics pool of the functional units of the machine tools. The product partial order templates are constructed by the membership and gradation relations of the modules. The key module, related module, virtual module are defined to represent the priority and significance of various modules. The instantiation rules of the modules are defined by type selection and optimum configuration constraints of components and parts. The correlation between two modules is reckoned by fuzzy membership of comparable characteristics. The key modules are selected by Karhunen-Loeve transformation. The product tree is reconstructed by multi-class support vector machine (SVM). The module instantiation is enhanced by layout design. The mutual-use of parts which are difficult to be reused directly is realized by part structure variation. The modular configuration design based on MDMU is finally accomplished by getting modular bill of material (MBOM) and assembly from the design requirements. The modular configuration design prototype is developed and applied to the design of the HMS series horizontal machining center. The test results proves that the current design of NC machine tools is extended to "layout domain-adapting domain-part variation domain" MDMU modular configuration design by "characteristics-modules-templates" hierarchy mapping, so it expands the mutual-use scope, decreases the ratio of non-standard parts between the product families with different layouts. It helps to improve efficiency and quality of NC machine tools design. © 2011 Journal of Mechanical Engineering.

Abstract:Based on industry PC and domestic GT400-SV multiaxis motion control card,a new open architecture numerical control shoe last machine tool was developed.The components of system hardware were proposed,and the structure of NC system application software was discussed.The software was designed and developed in the WINDOWS environment.Practicability and characteristics of open architecture were proved when shoe last machining on the control of the NC systems.

Abstract:The efficiency of the off-line programming for the arc welding robots depends on the complexity of the workpieces and the welding experience of the technician. When the workpieces or fixtures are redesigned or the robot workstation layout is changed, the result of prior off-line programming cannot be reused. With the thought of CAD/CAPP/CAM integration, this paper presents a feature mapping algorithm, which converts the design features of the workpieces to the machining features of the seams. Then a motion navigation method based on feature mapping in a simulation environment is proposed. This method comprises initial position guiding and seam tracking. For initial position guiding, a motion path with the least energy consumption is generated based on the weighted optimal control; then the path is revised for avoiding obstacles by setting the path tags dynamically. For seam tracking, the seam is dispersed into discrete welding points; then the welding gun moves through each point according to the welding sequence. The method is implemented in the development of an off-line programming simulation system. Industrial cases of the welding robot workcell layout for automobile door frames show the method can make the off-line programming much more effective.

Abstract:According to the manufacturing and forming requirements of spring,a four axes coordinated NC system was designed for the spring coiling machine.Using industry personal computer,the real-time interpolation control function of each axes was realized by the foreground application.And combining with the special interface board which was developed by ourselves,the system can make servo mechanism to fulfill the half closed loop position control.Simultaneously,the other manage functions,such as man-machine conversation,were carried out on the background.Because the real-time task and non real-time task of the whole NC system can be accomplished by the software,the design of system hardware was simplified.As a result,the cost of the system was reduced efficiently.

Abstract:According to new developing requirements of CNC and manipulators,a motion controller with open architecture was designed based on DSP.The communication with the upper computer was realized through PCI bus,DSP and CPLD was used to achieve motion control of manipulator's joints.The dynamic model of the manipulator was deduced,the neuron adaptive PID controller was designed,and servo control with high accuracy was achieved.Experiment results show that,the proposed system has nice openness,generality and portability,and higher trajectory tracking accuracy is gained with the advanced control algorith planted in it comparing to classical PID control.

Abstract:The NC tool grinder is important equipment for the carbide cutting tool manufacturing.Based on the peculiarities and technical requirements of tool grinding process,the system arrangement of common 5-axis NC tool grinders is analyzed.Then the structure characteristics of NC tool grinders with different work platforms are discussed.A reasonable configuration of work platform is put forword for the NC tool grinder.The selection and design of components are also completed during the RD process of the STWC-5M five-axis NC tool grinder.

Abstract:To develop a control system of cantilever arm for barrels welding, a motion controller has been developed to fit the welding procedure. The main research fields of the controller are: (1) finding effective measures to protect the controller against interferences; (2) decreasing welding current gradually in order to alleviate arc craters which are harmful to seam forming and welding quality; (3) planning the arm velocity to minimize the influence of the arm swing on arc length regulator; (4) adopting adaptive control algorithm with PD feedback and velocity feed-forward to reduce the influence of system inertia and velocity planning on the system transient performance.

Abstract:Abstract Application of virtual simulation technology to manufacturing industry today can shorten the development cycle, reduce costs and improve the design accuracy. This paper takes the spot welding workstation of auto body structure as the research object. Firstly, the production demand of spot welding of auto body structure is analyzed, the structure and production characteristics of spot welding robot workstation are analyzed, and the appropriate equipment is selected for the layout of spot welding robot workstation. Secondly, the work path of the robot is planned reasonably, and the planning of the robot trajectory can facilitate the writing of program instructions later. In the design process, three-dimensional modelling software is used to model some components in the workstation. Finally, through the use of simulation software, the welding path optimization and off-line programming of the whole spot welding robot workstation are simulated. The results show that the designed robot workstation can meet the use requirements.

Abstract:Good forming and metallurgical quality in complex three dimensional welds requires accurate motion planning.Existing planning methods do not provide uniform welding speeds and stable positioning and pose between the torch and the workpiece.This paper presents a motion planning method for complex three dimensional path welding that first uses a B-spline curve to connect selected points along the seam.Then,a kinematic model is used to calculate the displacements and velocities of each joint at each time using an inverse kinematic method.Simulations show that this method keeps the welding region horizontal during the entire welding process and keeps the welding speed,inclination angle and distance between the welding region and the end of the welding torch equal to the predetermined values.This welding path planning method can be applied to complex three dimensional path planning for arc welding,laser welding and friction stir welding.

Abstract:NC system is one of the key components in design of Re-configurable Parallel Kinematic Machines(RPKMs). Based on Object-Oriented Modeling Language UML, a solution for inverse kinematic of multi-configuration RPKMs is proposed. Abstract:Traditional CAD technique does not support the design processes such as function definition, conceptual design and preliminary design, which are most creative and play significant roles on the design quality. Because scheme design has close relationship with product structure, performance and technology cost, it is important for applying the intelligent CAD of scheme design to improve the quality and competitive level of the product. The definition and function of welding positioner are discussed in this paper. The new definition of welding positioner extends the research scope of welding positioner to welding fixture and welding positioning motion mechanism. The design process of welding fixture and positioning motion system is described, and the cased-based and knowledge-based design strategy of welding positioner scheme design intelligent CAD is then put forward, which lays foundation for developing proto-type system of welding positioner scheme design.

Abstract:Since the rapid development of welding technology,automatic welding has been gradually replaced manual welding,the most important element of automatic welding is the design of the welding stand,different welding bracket applies to different parts.In the roller welding stand,the friction of the driving wheel in the worm-wheel reducer was applied to drive the driving plate,and the driving plate drove the driven plate and the stand to turn around,so as to realize the automatic welding.The automatic welding roller stand was suitable for welding different-radius shell by adjusting the central distance between rollers.Its speed could be adjusted stepless,and it used an automatic control system to control the synchronous rotation of two motors so as to realize the welding of workpiece.

Recent Patents on Mechanical Engineering

Abstract:Background: At present, due to the widespread use of robotic arms for the automatic loading and unloading of CNC gear milling machines, there has been an increase in patents related to robotic arms. However, these robotic arms have issues of low efficiency and large space occupation. To solve these problems, a CNC gear milling machine with an automatic loading and unloading manipulator device needs to be designed. Method: This paper first designs the overall scheme of the automatic loading and unloading manipulator, and then uses Solidworks to establish a three-dimensional model. Finite element analysis software is used to analyze and simulate the deformation, stress distribution, and service life of the key components in the overall device. Finally, a prototype of the robotic arm is created based on the simulation optimization results. Result: This paper designs a new type of automatic loading and unloading manipulator device for CNC gear milling machines, which is different from existing patents in that all its components are installed inside the machine tool protective cover. In production experiments, the operation was found to be stable and reliable, and the loading and unloading process was completed at a speed of 11s/time, consistently exceeding the manual maximum speed of 19s/time. The results indicate that the proposed clamp storage system and core rod perforation feeding method are effective. Conclusion: The new design solves the problems of low efficiency and large space occupation in existing robotic arm patents.
