Abstract:SHANGGUAN Yi and Wan'er are two leaders successively in poetic circle in early Tang Dynasty, and influence the development of poetry in Tang Dynasty. Recently, the excavation of SHANGGUAN Wan'er Epitaph brings a new chance to the research of the literature in early Tang Dynasty, especially the record of the family background in half space of the epitaph which provides crucial original empirical materials for the study of early Tang Dynasty through the family literature.SHANGGUAN Wan'er Epitaph is also an excellent biographical literature, which reveals a new change on the epitaph style through the special form of biography and the obscure words with euphemistic expression.

Abstract:There are four lexical characteristics of Shenxian Zhuan which was written by Ge Hong(葛洪) in Jin dynasty. Firstly, there are abundant words and expressions of Taoism; second, there are also rich words and expressions commonly used in Six Dynasties; third, those words and expressions coming out later are miscellaneous; forth, there are some words and expressions that were only found in Shenxian Zhuan. It's difficult to find any research on the language characteristics of the book. By describing the above four kinds of words and expressions, this paper is to reveal the corpus value of the book in Chinese vocabulary history research.

Abstract:Recently unearthed documents have opened new opportunities for research into the poetry of the Tang Dynasty. The newly discovered documents offer the potential for extensive research into the poets during this dynasty,such as Cui Hao' s appointed official position,Han Yu' s friends,and the position of Miao Fa within his family. Wrong information from the poets' biographies,as described in the official history books,can be corrected with this new information. With the discovery of these documents,research into the poetry of the Tang Dynasty can be expanded.

Abstract:Xuanying's Yiqie Jing Yiny(玄应一切经音义) is a masterpiece on the sound and meaning of buddhist sutras. The words which used to explain the meaning of expressions, usually differed from those in Tripitaka, so we can use it to do comparisons and rectifications. This paper makes some notes of the sound and meaning of Sheng Jing(生经) in the first and second volume of Xuanying's Yiqie Jing Yinyi (玄应一切经音义), by comparing Xuanying Yinyi (玄应音义) with Taisho Tripitaka and Zhonghua Tripitaka and analyzing the differences between Xuanying Yinyi (玄应音义) and Tripitaka.

Abstract:In recent years, the study of archaic phonology based on ancient writing materials had made great progress. The achievements were about the research of the phonology of Yinshang (殷商) ,Xizhou(西周), Qinhan (秦汉)and Warring States period. It indicated that many scholars had been conscious of the value of the ancient writing materials to the study of archaic phonology. If we want to come near to reality of ancient sound, if we like to trace the source and course of a sound, we should make use of ancient writing materials. It’s a main trend in the study of archaic phonology from now on.

Abstract:The text is a kind of literary criticism with Chinese features.Up to the Ming Dynasty,variorum editions of literary works became popular and thus appeared the special collections of single annotator such as variorum collection, and combined works. This kind of publishing that combines the annotations of more than two authors with the original classical text has been named huipingben(variorum edition) today.Not all of them are cheap.Generally,they have considerable value in the aspects of documentation,criticism and cultural spread.The sporadic trivial things that are easily overlooked and forgotten need our attention and care, and serious search and recognition.

Abstract:Ge Zhongxuan is a famous melodist and phonologist in late Ming Dynasty.His book Tailü is an important work of phonology and is obscure and difficult to read as it applies music concepts to analyzing speeches.However,as long as those elements not directly related to speech analysis are left out,readers could get the speech analysis categories he used.The first three volumes of the book analyze the phonetic system of the mandarin in his time using the rhyme tables(syllables) complied with three different modes.The phonetic analysis categories and the syllable formation introduced by Ge speak volume of his precise phonetic analysis and detailed description of the phonological system,which carries great academic significance in the phonetic study of Mandarin.

Abstract:The common edition of The Old Tang History has many omission on the word.Now the scholars can't revise because the Song edition is incomplete seriously.The Yeshijun-collated edition that is found recently was collated on the basis. of the copy-Song edition of ChenCha Zhile Building of Ming Dynasty in Changshu.There are 65 volumes that the extant Song edition hasn't. It is a valuable remedy for the fragmentary Song edition .This dissertation attempts to make a full and accurate research on the circulation of the copy edition of ChenCha's Zhile Building and the Yeshijun-collated edition.From it we know the copy edition of Zhile Building was already incomplete at the beginning of Qing Dynasty.Henceforth it is lost.But the Yeshijun-collated edition which was considered losting is preserved in the Hunan Library.The most valuable part is the Benji through the illustration with examples on the value of Yeshijun-collated edition.

Abstract:Many scholars such as Wu Wen-zhi,Zhou Wei-de have already made great efforts on the collection,edition,and collation of the notes on poets and poetry of the Ming Dynasty.They have got remarkable achievement while provided a solid foundation for the research of Ming.However,there still leaves a lot of work deserving to be proceeded further in this field since the emergence of new materials and methods.In such a context of study in literature of Ming Dynasty,this article aims to make some further research on a few aspects of this issue: the total amount,the edition and collation,the biographical verification of the notes.It supposes to arouse more academic concerns and promote the development in this field.

Abstract:There are altogether 30collections of exchange poetry and Ci in the Tang Dynasty.This article aims at the study of the compiler,compiling,purpose,stylistic rules,and the overall characteristics,appraisal,circulation,preservation and loss of the collections.It is pointed out that the exchange poetry and Ci gradually became one of the major academic communications between men of letters and had a profound impact on the later poetry and Ci composition.

Abstract:The Chinese language textbook Yü-yen Tzǔ-êrh Chi,which has three editions published in 1867,1886 and1903 respectively, preserved a rich and precious corpus materials of spoken Mandarin in mid-19th century. A part of its contents raced back to Manchu-Chinese textbook Qing Wen Zhi Yao, and the textbooks published in China by Thomas Francis Wade, which are Hsin Ching Lu: Book of Experiment, Wen Da Pian and Deng Ying Pian. This paper reveals the characteristics of Yü-yen Tzǔ-êrh Chi’s corpus by the research of its version and origin, and proves the value of its corpus by a case study of X+"tian(天)"/"er(儿)"/"ri"(日).

Abstract:The book of rhymes is a specific dictionary that listing characters grouped under various rhymes according to vowel, a symbol representing an open sound produced by the voice. So far, the most dictionaries of rhymes of the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties in existent were found among Dunhuang Manuscripts which had unearthed from the hidden library in Maogao Grottoes of Dunhuang. Those dictionaries of rhymes dating from the Tang and the Five dynasties had not only recorded down various authentic forms of vulgar characters that prevailing and putting in use by people of that times and remained there with fresh popularity idioms practiced in that times but authored with explanatory notes by sages of the time as well. The explanatory notes to the dictionaries of rhymes of the Tang and the Five Dynasties had in store rich and valuable information of scholiums. This article will expound and prove the great value of reference function of those dictionaries of rhymes in decipherment and explanation to Dunhuang Manuscripts, method by two ways of explanation in word study and giving irrefutable evidence in a clear and lucid understanding of phrases.
