Abstract:Turing Award winner Juris Hartmanis introduced in 1959 lattices of subspaces of generalized partitions ("partitions of type n"; "geometries" if $n = 2$). Hartmanis states it is "an unsolved problem whether there are any incomplete lattice homomorphisms in" lattices of subspaces of geometries. (He continues, "[I]f so how can these geometries be characterized.") We give a positive answer to this question.

Abstract:Let (E,⊥,⊕,0,1) be a lattice effect algebra and τi its interval topology. In this work we show that if the operation ⊕ is continuous with respect to τi, then τi is Hausdorff. In addition, we also show that if (E,⊥,⊕,0,1) is a complete MV-effect algebra and τi is a Hausdorff topology, then the operations ⊕, ⊖, ∨ and ∧ are τi continuous.

Abstract:We give several characterizations of order continuous vector lattice homomorphisms between Archimedean vector lattices. We reduce the proofs of some of the equivalences to the case of composition operators between vector lattices of continuous functions, and so we obtain a characterization of order continuity of such operators. Motivated by this, we investigate various properties of the sublattices of the space $C\left(X\right)$, where $X$ is a Tychonoff topological space. We also obtain several characterizations of a regular sublattice of a vector lattice, and show that the closure of a regular sublattice of a Banach lattice is also regular.

Abstract:We prove that the category of continuous lattices and meet- and directed join-preserving maps is dually equivalent, via the hom functor to $[0,1]$, to the category of complete Archimedean meet-semilattices equipped with a finite meet-preserving action of the monoid of continuous monotone maps of $[0,1]$ fixing $1$. We also prove an analogous duality for completely distributive lattices. Moreover, we prove that these are essentially the only well-behaved "sound classes of joins $\Phi$, dual to a class of meets" for which "$\Phi$-continuous lattice" and "$\Phi$-algebraic lattice" are different notions, thus for which a $2$-valued duality does not suffice.

Abstract:We generalize the notion of complete binary relation on complete lattice to residuated lattice valued ordered sets and show its properties. Then we focus on complete fuzzy tolerances on fuzzy complete lattices and prove they are in one-to-one correspondence with extensive isotone Galois connections. Finally, we prove that fuzzy complete lattice, factorized by a complete fuzzy tolerance, is again a fuzzy complete lattice.

Abstract:Let $ F_{q}^{(n)} $ denote the n-dimensional row vector space over the finite field $ F_{q} $ with $ n \ge 2 $. An l-partial injective linear map of $ F_{q} $ is a pair $ (V,F) $, where $ V $ is an l-dimensional subspace of $ F_{q}^{(n)} $ and $ f{:}\,V \to F_{q}^{(n)} $ is an injective linear map. Let L be the set of all partial injective linear maps of $ F_{q}^{(n)} $ containing 1. Ordered L by ordinary and reverse inclusion, two families of finite posets are obtained. This paper proves that these posets are lattices, discusses their geometricity and computes their characteristic polynomials.

Abstract:In this paper, choosing a complete residuated lattice L as the lattice background, we introduce the concept of ⊤-convergence groups, which is a group equipped with a ⊤-convergence structure such that the group operations are continuous with respect to the ⊤-convergence space. Then we make further investigations on ⊤-convergence groups, including (1) We provide many nice properties of ⊤-convergence groups and two characterization theorems; (2) Considering ⊤-neighborhood groups, we propose topological ⊤-convergence groups and establish their relationships with topological ⊤-neighborhood groups; (3) We further introduce the notion of ⊤-limit groups by equipping a limit condition on ⊤-convergence groups and then investigate the uniformizability of ⊤-limit groups by means of ⊤-uniform limit spaces.

Abstract:The linear lattice of Riemann μ \mu -integrable functions on a completely regular space with a bounded positive Radon measure μ \mu is viewed as an extension of the linear lattice of bounded continuous functions. To characterize this Riemann extension, the new functional analysis category of c c -latlineals with refinements ( ≡ c r \equiv cr -latlineals) is introduced. On this basis, the procedure of c r cr -completion of certain order-boundary type is defined. The μ \mu -Riemann extension is shown to be the result of applying this procedure to the c r μ cr_{\mu } -latlineal of bounded continuous functions.

Abstract:In contrast to the fact that every completely distributive lattice is necessarily continuous in the sense of Scott, it is shown that complete distributivity of a category enriched over the closed category obtained by endowing the unit interval with a continuous t-norm does not imply its continuity in general. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the implication are presented.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to establish several characterizations of almost order (L) sets (respectively, almost (L) sets). These characterizations generalize and correct those obtained recently by K. El Fahri and F.Z. Oughajji. In addition, we show that the almost (L) sets enjoy some interesting lattice approximation properties. Among other things, we show that a Banach lattice E has weakly sequentially continuous lattice operations if and only if the convex solid hull of every (L) set of is an (L) set. Moreover, we study the domination property for absolutely weakly sequentially continuous operators.

Abstract:We study a variant of extremal disconnectedness in frames, defined by requiring that any two disjoint open sublocales should be separable by disjoint open sublocales each of which is the interior of some zero-sublocale. In spaces, this notion was recently introduced in [1] in order to study some properties of frames of z -ideals of rings of continuous functions. The point-free approach adopted here brings to the fore some topological results not considered in [1], such as that a dense z -embedded subspace of a Tychonoff space has this property if and only if the space containing it has the property. In [1], this was proved only for the embedding X ⊆ βX . We give a ring-theoretic characterization by defining a property of f -rings in a transparent manner which shows why the property should be defined the way we do. The property is that if two annihilator ideals meet trivially, then the annihilator of each of the annihilator ideals contains a positive element such that the sum of the two elements is a non-zerodivisor.

Limits of vector lattices

Abstract:If $K$ is a compact Hausdorff space so that the Banach lattice $C(K)$ is isometrically lattice isomorphic to a dual of some Banach lattice, then $C(K)$ can be decomposed as the $\ell^\infty$-direct sum of the carriers of a maximal singular family of order continuous functionals on $C(K)$. In order to generalise this result to the vector lattice $C(X)$ of continuous, real valued functions on a realcompact space $X$, we consider direct and inverse limits in suitable categories of vector lattices. We develop a duality theory for such limits and apply this theory to show that $C(X)$ is lattice isomorphic to the order dual of some vector lattice $F$ if and only if $C(X)$ can be decomposed as the inverse limit of the carriers of all order continuous functionals on $C(X)$. In fact, we obtain a more general result: A Dedekind complete vector lattice $E$ is perfect if and only if it is lattice isomorphic to the inverse limit of the carriers of a suitable family of order continuous functionals on $E$. A number of other applications are presented, including a decomposition theorem for order dual spaces in terms of spaces of Radon measures.

Locally solid convergences and order continuity of positive operators

Abstract:We consider vector lattices endowed with locally solid convergence structures, which are not necessarily topological. We show that such a convergence is defined by the convergence to $0$ on the positive cone. Some results on unbounded modification which were only available in partial cases are generalized. Order convergence is characterized as the strongest locally solid convergence in which monotone nets converge to their extremums (if they exist). We partially characterize sublattices on which the order convergence is the restriction of the order convergence of the ambient lattice. We show that homomorphism is order continuous iff it is uo-continuous. Uo convergence is characterized independently of order convergence. We show that on the space of continuous function uo convergence is weaker than the compact open convergence iff the underlying topological space contains a dense locally compact subspace. For a large class of convergences we prove that a positive operator is order continuous if and only if its restriction to a dense regular sublattice is order continuous, and that the closure of a regular sublattice is regular with the original sublattice being order dense in the closure. We also present an example of a regular sublattice of a locally solid topological vector lattice whose closure is not regular.

Categories and General Algebraic Structures with Application

Abstract:We show that the lattice of compactifications of a topological group $G$ is a complete lattice which is isomorphic to the lattice of all closed normal subgroups of the Bohr compactification $bG$ of $G$. The correspondence defines a contravariant functor from the category of topological groups to the category of complete lattices. Some properties of the compactification lattice of a topological group are obtained.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of strong proximity join-semilattice, a predicative notion of continuous lattice which arises as the Karoubi envelop of the category of algebraic lattices. Strong proximity join-semilattices can be characterised by the coalgebras of the lower powerlocale on the wider category of proximity posets (also known as abstract bases or R-structures). Moreover, locally compact locales can be characterised in terms of strong proximity join-semilattices by the coalgebras of the double powerlocale on the category of proximity posets. We also provide more logical characterisation of a strong proximity join-semilattice, called a strong continuous finitary cover, which uses an entailment relation to present the underlying join-semilattice. We show that this structure naturally corresponds to the notion of continuous lattice in the predicative point-free topology. Our result makes the predicative and finitary aspect of the notion of continuous lattice in point-free topology more explicit.
