Abstract:For the continuous and automatic testing with high precision,we designed an ultrasonic automatic test system for annular work-pieces.The system used the modern signal processing ultrasonic imaging and defect recognition to visualize and analyze statistically in order to make the defect intelligently be evaluated and improve the crafts.Finally an example was given and conclusion was drawn.The system is proved to be automatic,high ability of anti-interference,exact,efficient and reliable during the applications.

Abstract:The accelerated bearing life tester modified with micro-flow control valve and position holding directional control vlave is presented. The parameters of the bearing life testing are decided and the measuring and controlling system of the accelerated bearing life tester is developed. The control method of continuity and discontinuity applying to bearing life tester and adjusted parameter PID control is given. The software applying to the accelerated bearing life tester system based on PLC and NI monitor software based on PPI protocol are developed. The result shows that this system has features of 2% control precision and fast-response control.

Abstract:This research presents a design of a thermal deformation errors compensation system for CNC machine tools which can compensate thermal deformation of Z-axis during the working time. The thermal deformation errors compensation system includes three instruments: displacement tester, temperature tester and thermal errors compensator. Displacement and temperature testers have been designed in the early researches, and the thermal errors compensator is designed in this research. The compensation process includes two parts, modeling part and compensation part. Modeling part focuses on making a model of thermal deformation, and compensation part focuses on using the model to compensate the thermal deformation of Z-axis during the working time.

Abstract:In this study, it used a vertical machining center as the study object, conducted finite-element simulations and experimental research on its thermal performance, analyzed the weaknesses affecting the thermal performance of the machine tool, and proposed a machine tool thermal performance analysis method by combining structure optimization based on the headstock thermal characteristics and the temperature field control. Without changing the machine tool's heating power and static and dynamic stiffness, on the one hand, the design theory of the thermal plane of symmetry was used to reconstruct the headstock into a symmetrical structure such that the thermal deformations could be mutually coupled and offset each other. On the other hand, cooling troughs were designed on both sides and the front of the headstock so that cooling control could be arranged for the headstock by optimizing the layout and the width/depth of the cooling troughs. Therefore, the whole-machine temperature elevation and thermal deformation can be reduced. Based on the heat transfer analysis of the cooling troughs, it constructed a thermal performance finite-element simulation model and compared the temperature and whole-machine thermal deformation on several critical points before and after the reconstruction. Finally, the experimental measurements of the thermal performance were obtained using the prototype designed and manufactured based on the optimization results. It was verified that the thermal performance of the vertical machining center was greatly improved by comparing the simulation results with the experimental results.

Abstract:For the extreme environmental conditions caused by high and low temperature,alternating temperature,high-speed,heavy load in the field of aerospace,and the typical characteristics of bearings and gears,the high-speed sliding-rolling contact friction testing machine was developed.The structure and capability were introduced.The surface failure experiment was carried out by using the tester.The experimentation shows this tester can simulate the extreme conditions.With sensitive response to experimental parameters,it gives real-time monitoring and stores experimental datas of material limiting.

Abstract:This paper has briefly introduced the embedded intelligent temperature measuring system based on the micro-controller ARM and the single-bus-digital sensor DS18B20. This measuring system can real-time, rapidly, precisely measure the temperature of different location on the NC lathe. Not only the experiment principle of the embedded intelligent temperature measuring system is emphesized, but also the experiment data by using the grouping optimization theory is processed. Immediately after, the temperature variables from the experiment data can be determined. Finally, it can greatly optimize the model structure.

Abstract:In this paper, the thermal-structural coupling field analysis model of spindle system is established, and the numerical simulation which accounts for the spindle component system’s structure, the actual working condition, the influence of heat source and lubrication system condition factors, etc. which are from a machine tool factory, such as ambient temperature, flow velocity of coolant, and the rotating speed of spindle motor, etc., is conducted. It is found that the maximum temperature up to about 38.8°C appears in the spindle where the double row cylinder roller bearing is installed, while the maximum comprehensive deformation of the spindle’s front-end reaches 0.93 × 10 –5 m. And the spindle system needs nearly 1 hour to reach thermal equilibrium state when the system uses the L-HM32 lubricant. However, temperature rise, heat deformation and the thermal equilibrium time are reduced by 11.1%, 22.6% and 12%, respectively, when the lubricant of the lubrication system is replaced by Shell-tellus22, and the maximum Von-Mises stress value is 125.6 MPa. The results are beneficial for providing a basis for the requirements of practical manufacture, especially the optimisation of structure, cooling system and compensation system design.

Abstract:The machining precision of the milling head is primarily affected by the thermal errors that originated from the thermal deformation. Thermal error compensation is an economical and efficient method to overcome these thermal errors. The milling head's heat source is analyzed to calculate the thermal boundary load based on component parameters of the milling head. The milling head's thermal deformation is then simulated using ANSYS software to achieve the milling head's temperature distribution and the amount of thermal deformation. Through the design and construction of the milling head temperature and thermal deformation experiment platform, the thermal deformation experiment of the milling head is performed. Accordingly, the measuring point temperature and the tooltip offset are obtained. Finally, a thermal error compensation method is proposed based on the homogeneous transformation. The research results give a theoretical reference and technical support for the thermal error compensation, optimized design, and development of milling heads.

Abstract:The thermal deformation is one of important factors by which the comprehensive accuracy of the ultra precision cycloid wheel forming grinding machine was affected.To explore the transient thermal stress and thermal deformation of ultra precision cycloid wheel forming grinding machine artificial granite bed in working,the geometric model of artificial granite grinding machine bed was built by collaborative simulation method based on 3D and finite element software.The transient temperature field of the grinder bed was obtained by exerting force on the guide rail surfaces to simulate the grinder bed real working environment.And then,external restraint loads were exerted to obain thermal deformation cloud picture,equivalent stress and strain curve.According to the thermal deformation and temperature distribution of the ultra precision cycloid wheel forming grinding machine artificial granite bed,several measures for improving the thermal deformation of the machine tool bed have been put forward.

Study on Optimal Layout of Temperature Measurement for Thermal Errors of Spindle in Machine Tools

Abstract:This paper first presents the software and hardware structure of the temperature measurement system of the spindle thermal errors in machine tools.Then the main factor strategy and mutual irrelevance strategy are used in the optimal layout of the fourteen temperature measurement points in the machine tools.Finally,four temperature measurement points are selected after the optimal layout.The multiple linear regression method based on least square is used to estimate the thermal distortion of the spindle.It is found that the estimate result is very good,it also validates the necessary of the optimal layout of the temperature measurement points.

Abstract:Suppressing thermal deformation is an effective measure to reduce the thermal error of CNC (computer numerical control), and the machining accuracy of CNC directly determines the quality and accuracy of parts. A cooling pipe is designed for the non-heat source parts with large swing head deformation to restrain its thermal deformation. At present, there is a lack of research results in this field. Through the finite element simulation analysis of 5AS01 five-axis direct drive swing head, the thermal deformation of swing head and motorized spindle is compared. It has been determined that the thermal deformation of the shell in the Z - and X -axes has a significant impact on the precision of the swing head's machining; thus, steps must be taken to limit its deformation. The cooling position was determined by simulating the normal working condition of the shell and gray correlation analysis. Capillary copper tube was connected with water-cooling system for cooling, and the heat transfer performance between the shell and copper tube was improved by using heat conductive silica gel sheet. Comparing the shell cooling simulation with the shell cooling experiment, it is found that both of them have the same trend in restraining the thermal deformation of the shell, reducing the thermal deformation in X direction by more than 50% and in Z direction by more than 24%. It verifies the accuracy of the cooling simulation model and the effectiveness of this cooling method, which can effectively reduce the thermal deformation of the shell and improve the machining accuracy of the machine tool.

Abstract:CNC lathes often use hydraulic systems or motors to lock the turret, which causes the turret to have a high temperature rise and a large thermal deformation. The traditional measuring method couples the thermal distortions of the spindle and the turret together, which is not conducive to establishing the thermal error model. To solve this problem, a new measuring method was used in this research to decouple the thermal linear and angular distortions of the spindle and the turret. In addition, constraints on the model coefficients were proposed by studying the effects of long-term and short-term variations in ambient temperature on the thermal deformation of machine tools, thus transforming the thermal deformation modeling of the spindle and turret into nonlinear programming problems. After building the thermal deformation models of the spindle and the turret, the thermal distortion model of the whole machine tool was obtained by combining them. Finally, three experiments were designed to verify the validity of the established models, and the models were compared with those established using conventional methods. The experimental results showed that the models built based on thermal distortion decoupling and nonlinear programming had higher accuracy and robustness.

Abstract:The spindle is a primate part of the machine tool and its thermal deformation error is one of the important factors affecting the maching accrucy of the precise machine tool. It was discussed that the differ-ent forms of the thermal deformation errors of the boring spindle and its influence on maching precision. Ac-cording to ISO and ASME standard,a thermal deformation testing system for a model of precise horizontal coordinate boring machine was built up,and the temperature and theimal deformation error fo the spindle was tested and analyzed with high precision testing system. The results shows that the maching precision of the spindle is affected by the thermal deformation seriously,the speed of the spindle affects the time that reaches heat balance and the thermal error size. Effective measures should be taken to compensate the thermal de-formation error and optimizate the structure of the machine tool,so that the maching accuracy of the machine tool have further improving.

Abstract:Taking a vertical machining center as an example, thermal characteristics of the spindle system were researched by finite element simulation and experimental test. Firstly, temperature field and thermal deformation of the spindle system were simulated considering boundary conditions of the finite element model, such as heat sources, convective heat transfer coefficients and thermal contact resistances between joints. Accuracy of the simulation was verified compared with test. The results shows that key areas of temperature rise locate at spindle bearing; thermal deformation of Y and Z directions are large; thermal characteristics of the spindle system has little influence on other parts. Thermal characteristics of the spindle system were optimized by changing structures and sizes of the cooling passage located at the headstock, and effectiveness of the optimization was verified by finite element simulation. The research results provide guidance for thermal characteristic simulation and optimization of a machining center.

Abstract:This paper presented a real-time measuring method of temperature fields and thermal deformations in vertical machining center. And a FEA model including the thermal contact resistance at interface for evaluating the temperature distribution and tools deformation in vertical machining center (VMC) was established. Compared with the experiment results, it is shown that the new model is much more accurate than the traditional model without considering thermal contact resistance at interface.
