Abstract:Linseed oil is an important natural sanitarian oil. To qualitative analyses the linseed oil, FTIR and FT-Raman were used to identify the contents of it. It is indicated that each component has characteristic frequency, and can be discriminated from others by IR and Raman spectroscopy. This is useful for the further on-line quantitative analysis and quality control of linseed oil.
Nondestructive determination of Histidine in oilseed rape leaves using near infrared spectroscopy

Abstract:Histidine (C 6H 9N 3O 2) is one of the amino acids which are quite important indices for monitoring and indicating the growing status of oilseed rape. The traditional detection methods, such as HPLC or automatic amino acid analyzer were time consuming, laborious, and not convenient for fast and non-destructive determination. Nowadays, near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is widely applied in quantitative and qualitative analysis for plant growing information detection. In this study, the oilseed rape leaf samples in calibration, validation and prediction sets were 80, 40 and 30, respectively. Linear and nonlinear chemometric methods were compared, including partial least squares (PLS) and least squares-support vector machine (LS-SVM). The performance of different spectral data pretreatments was compared, including Savitzky-Golay smoothing, standard normal variate, first and second derivatives. The correlation coefficient (R) and root mean square error (RMSE) were used as evaluation indices. Firstly, different pretreatments were implemented by PLS model. Secondly, certain wavelengths were selected by the regression coefficients plots. Simultaneously, for comparison, a newly developed informative information and relevant variable selection method, called successive projections algorithm (SPA), was employed to obtain the most effective wavelengths with least collinearity and redundancies. Thirdly, the selected wavelength by regression coefficients and SPA were used as the inputs of LS-SVM model, respectively. Finally, the performance of PLS and LS-SVM models were compared and the best model was achieved. The results indicated that a better prediction results were achieved by the SPA-LS-SVM model with correlation coefficient R = 0.9683 for validation set. NIR spectroscopy combined with LS-SVM was successfully applied for the non-destructive determination of histidine in oilseed rape leaves. This method could be used for the on field monitoring of growing status and other physiological parameters of oilseed rape, and it also helpful for the development of portable instruments and sensors for plant growing information detection.
Real-time Analysis of Soil Total N and P with Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy

Abstract:The tide salt clay in Zhejiang Province was selected as research object,and the soil N and soil P were analyzed with NIR spectroscopic techniques.Six group samples were collected from a rice farm.Several kinds of nutritional water with different concentrations were added to the six groups,and then the samples were dried and rubbed.At last,120 samples were got from six groups equably.Standard normal variate(SNV),multivariate scatter correction(MSC) and smoothing of moving average were used to process the spectral data.Different calibration models were established and the performance of these models was compared with different pretreatment methods.After comparison,smoothing of moving average was found to be the best spectral pretreatment method.96 samples were randomly selected from 120 samples as the calibration set,and the other 24 samples were used as the validation samples.Two discriminating analysis models were developed using partial least squares(PLS) method and least squares-support vector machine(LS-SVM) method respectively.The correlation coefficients(r) between the measured data and the predicted data from PLS were 0.945 4(N),0.932 7(P) respectively,and 0.032 1(N),0.954 7(P) from LS-SVM,respectively.The root mean standard error of prediction(RMSEP) were 0.032 1(N),0.008 9(P) from PLS,and 0.037 8(N),0.010 1(P) from LS-SVM.The results showed that NIRS could be used to evaluate the soil N and soil P.
Feasibility Research on Non-Invasive Analysis of Tanreqing Injection with Near Infrared Spectroscopy

Abstract:A non-invasive analysis method for bottled Tanreqing injection was developed based on near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. The NIR trans-mission spectra were collected using a home-made accessory. The quality indicators of Tanreqing injection, which include baicalin, ursodesoxycholic acid (UDCA), chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), chlorogenic acid (CA), forsythin, total amino acids (TAA) and soluble solid content (SSC), were determined with standard methods. Several outlier samples were eliminated using the Dixon test, leverage and studentised residual test and analogous samples were amalgamated. Partial least squares regression (PLSR) was used for establishing the calibration models with the pre-treated spectra and the reference values. The root mean square errors of prediction ( RMSEP) values of external validation samples were 0.098 g L−1, 0.059 g L−1, 0.140 g L−1, 0.038g L−1, 0.007 g L−1, 0.053 g L−1 and 0.538 gL−1 for baicalin, CA, UDCA, CDCA, forsythin, TAA and SSC, respectively, which indicated that the established models possessed satisfactory predictive abilities. The presented method can reduce the workload of product inspection to a large extent. This will allow the sampling proportion to be increased and enable improved quality control during Tanreqing injection production.
A Study on the Use of Near-Infrared Spectroscopy for the Rapid Quantification of Major Compounds in Tanreqing Injection

Abstract:In this paper we describe the strategy used in the development and validation of a near infrared spectroscopy method for the rapid determination of baicalin, chlorogenic acid, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), and the total solid contents (TSCs) in the Tanreqing injection. To increase the representativeness of calibration sample set, a concentrating-diluting method was adopted to artificially prepare samples. Partial least square regression (PLSR) was used to establish calibration models, with which the five quality indicators can be determined with satisfied accuracy and repeatability. In addition, the slope/bias (S/B) method was used for the models transfer between two different types of NIR instruments from the same manufacturer, which is contributing to enlarge the application range of the established models. With the presented method, a great deal of time, effort and money can be saved when large amounts of Tanreqing injection samples need to be analyzed in a relatively short period of time, which is of great significance to the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) industries.
Quantitative Analysis by NIR Spectrum Technique for the Main Components of Savor in Green Tea

Abstract:Choosing some representative kinds of green tea as the materials, the experiment established the calibra- tion models of three main sapor components——tea polyphenols (TPP), amino acids (AA) and theine from the tea soup by using NIR Quantitative analysis. The tea polyphenols(TPP) model: the standard error of calibration(SEE), correlation coefficient(r)of calibration set(C-set), standard error of cross-validation (SEP) and validation set (V-set) were: 1.1455、 0.8792、1.0600、0.8623. The AA model: its SEE, SEE -r, SEP and SEP -r were: 0.2518、0.9728、0.2597、0.9722. The theine model: its SEE, SEE-r, SEP, and SEP-r were: 0.5553、0.9648、0.5315、0.9554. It indicated that by external cross validation, correlation coefficient(R) of true content of samples and forecasted content of samples: R of TPP was 0.8935, R of AA was 0.9541, R of theine was 0.9386. The models could satisfy the analysis requirements of tea components. The proposed method was proved to be a rapid method for mensurating components of tea soup.
Quantitative Analysis of Fat Content in Brown Rice by Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) Technique

Abstract:Based on NIRS technique and partial least squares (PLS) algorithm, two calibration models were established tanalyze quantitatively fat content (FT) in brown rice grain and brown rice flour, respectively. The determination coefficients (R2) othese two models for FT were 94.44% and 95.54%, and the root mean square errors of cross validation (RMSECV) were 0.09% an0.08%, respectively. In external validation, the R2 value between the true value and predicted value were 79.51% and 87.10% for Fin brown rice grain and brown rice flour, and the root mean square errors of prediction (RMSEP) were 0.24% and 0.26%, and thaverage relative errors were 4.11% and 3.30%, respectively. These results indicated that the method of NIRS has relatively higaccuracy in prediction tests for FT in brown rice grain and brown rice flour and that the two mathematic models established in thpresent study should be useful for nutrient quality improvement in rice breeding program.

Abstract:A method for rapid quantitative analysis of four kinds of Tanreqing injection intermediates was developed based on Fourier transform near infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy and partial least squares (PLS) algorithm. The NIR spectra of 120 samples were collected in transflective mode. The concentrations of chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, luteoloside, baicalin, ursodesoxycholic acid (UDCA), and chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) were determined with the HPLC–DAD/ELSD as reference method. In the PLS calibration, the NIR spectra were pretreated with different methods and the number of PLS factors used in the model calibration was optimized by leave-one-out cross-validation. The performance of the final PLS models was evaluated according to the root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC), root mean square error of cross-validation (RMSECV), root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP), BIAS, standard error of prediction (SEP), and correlation coefficients (R). The R values in the prediction sets were all higher than 0.93, and the SEPs for the 6 compounds are 1.18, 6.02, 2.71, 155, 126, 30.0mg/l, respectively. The established models were used for the liquid preparation process analysis of Tanreqing injection in three batches, and a model updating method was proposed for the long-term usage of the established models. This work demonstrated that NIR spectroscopy is more rapid and convenient than the conventional methods to analyze the intermediates of Tanreqing injection, and the presented method is helpful to the implementation of process analytical technology (PAT) in pharmaceutical industry of Chinese Medicines Injections.

Abstract:A rapid and simultaneous quantification of the main active compounds of the in-process extract solutions is beneficial to the process monitoring as well as ensuring quality consistency of the end products during the production of traditional Chinese medicine. Here we present a near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy-based method for rapid analysis of extract solutions in the production of compound E Jiao oral liquid. The partial least-squares regression (PLSR) models for four quality indicators (viz. total flavonoids, total saponins, total saccharides and soluble solid contents) were established and validated. The results showed that all of the four models exhibited satisfactory fitting and predictive capacity. The root mean squares error of prediction (RMSEP) was 0.0384 mg mL−1, 0.0154 mg mL−1, 3.80 mg mL−1 and 0.199% for total flavonoids, total saponins, total saccharides and soluble solid contents, respectively. This work here demonstrated that NIR spectroscopy coupled with PLSR calibration can offer a reliable and non-destructive alternative in the routine monitoring of the extraction process in the production of compound E Jiao oral liquid. The presented approach is expected to be equally applicable to the mixed decoction of other herbal medicines.
[On-Line Monitoring of Extraction Process of Danhong Injection Based on Near-Infrared Spectroscopy].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To establish a rapid quantitative analysis method for the quality control of Danhong injection extraction using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy.METHOD:Online collecting the NIR spectra during the mixed extraction process of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Carthamus tinctorius, partial least squares regression (PLSR) models were developed for the quality indicators rosmarinic acid (RA), salvia acid B (SaB), lithospermic acid (LA), hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA) and solid content (SSC), with HPLC and weight-loss method as reference methods.RESULT:The correlation coefficients of the cross validation for RA, SaB, LA, HSYA and SSC were 0.909 3, 0.915 2, 0.901 9, 0.747 7 and 0.931 4, respectively. And the root mean square errors of cross validation (RMSECV) were 0.012 1, 0.251, 0.017 7, 0.038 1 g x L(-1) and 0.359%, respectively.CONCLUSION:In this study, NIR spectroscopy was successfully applied to achieve the real-time determination of the contents of RA, SaB, LA and SSC, while the performance of the HSYA calibration model needed to be improved.

Abstract:The objective of the present research was to evaluate the potential of NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy as a way for nondestructive measurement of loquat soluble solid content of three varieties harvested from two orchards. According to the analysis, it was shown that the correlation coefficient of curves was relatively high in the two regions of 1400-1500 nm and 1900- 2000 nm. Statistical models were developed using partial least square regression (PLSR), stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) and principal component regression (PCR) methods in the full spectral region from 800 to 2500 nm and in the combined region of 1400-1500 nm and 1900-2000 nm. The results of PLSR model in the full spectral region were better than those of other models. The modeling results based on derivative spectra were not as good as those based on original spectra. Finally, a model was established based on the original spectra with 17 points smoothing for all the three varieties in the full spectral region by PLSR method. The correlation coefficients of calibration and validation were 0.96 and 0.95, respectively. The results indicate that it is feasible to use NIR spectroscopy technique for quantitative analysis of loquat soluble solid content.
Rapid and Nondestructive Determination of Fatty Acid Contents in Shell-Intact Cottonseed by Near Infrared Spectroscopy

Abstract:Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy was applied for the rapid and nondestructive determination of fatty acid contents in shell. intact crop seed. Total 385 samples of cottonseed were used in this experiment. Linear partial least squares (PLS) and nonlinear least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) methods with the variables selected by Monte Cario uninformative variables elimination (MC-UVE) method were used to develop the calibration models to predict the content of fatty acid contents. A best prediction performance was obtained by using the MC-UVE-LS-SVM models. The correlation coefficients (R-2) of calibration models for palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, saturate fatty acids, unsaturated fatty acids were 0. 863, 0. 881, 0. 843, 0. 806, 0. 894 and 0. 917, respectively; the residual predictive deviations (RPD) were 2. 669, 2. 880, 2. 508, 2. 202, 3. 023 and 3. 473, respectively. The results indicated that NIR technology could be usedl for the rapid quality analysis of shell-intact cottonseed avoiding the need of grinding. Furthermore, the variable selection of MC-UVE could provide more robust and accurate calibration models.

Abstract:Objective To develop a novel method for fast determination of the active components in the extracts of Anshen Bunao Liquid with near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Methods The samples in this experiment were simulated according to the manufacture process. HPLC was used to determine the contents of stilbene glycoside and icariin in the extracts of Anshen Bunao Liquid. NIR spectra of the samples were collected in range of 4 000-12 500 cm~(-1). Multivariate calibration models based on PLS algorithm were developed to correlate the spectra and corresponding values determined by HPLC. Results The core-lation coefficients of the calibration models were 0. 953 8 and 0. 975 6, and the RSE for stilbene glycoside and icariin were 0. 048 7 and 0. 043 2, respectively. Conclusion The proposed method is simple and rapid, and used to quality control of Anshen Bunao Liquid.

Abstract:The potential of near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy for non-destructive determination of quality parameters including oil and protein contents in shell-intact cottonseed was investigated. Linear partial least squares (PLS) and nonlinear least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) methods were used to develop the calibration models to determinate the protein and oil contents. Moreover, as variable selection techniques, the Monte Carlo uninformative variable elimination (MC-UVE) and the successive projections algorithm (SPA) were applied to improve the predictive ability of the model. Finally, the MC-UVE-LS-SVM models show the best prediction performance. The coefficient of determination (R-2), residual predictive deviation (RPD) and root mean squares error of prediction (RMSEP) were 0.959, 4.871 and 0.977 for protein, and 0.950, 4.429 and 0.834 for oil, respectively. The results indicate that NIR technology could be very useful for the rapid quality analysis of shell-intact cottonseed avoiding the need of grinding. Furthermore, the variable selection of MC-UVE can provide more robust and accurate calibration models than SPA. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Estimation of Oil Content and Fatty Acid Composition in Cottonseed Kernel Powder Using Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy

Abstract:Oil content and fatty acid composition in 444 ground cottonseed kernel samples were analyzed using near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS). Calibration equations were developed for oil and fatty acid contents with the modified partial least squares (MPLS) regression method. The correlations between NIRS and reference values in external validation were in agreement with the predictions in calibration. Each equation was assessed based on the relative prediction determinant for external validation (RPDv). Equations corresponding to total oil content (RPDv = 11.495) and linoleic acid (RPDv = 5.026) showed high accuracy. For palmitic acid (RPDv = 1.914), myristic acid (RPDv = 1.724) and oleic acid (RPDv = 1.999), the equations were predicted with relatively high accuracy while those for palmitoleic acid (RPDv = 0.686), stearic acid (RPDv = 0.792), linolenic acid (RPDv = 0.475) and 1-eicosenoic acid (RPDv = 0.619) were poorly predicted. The equations for traits with RPDv > 1.5 could be reliably used in screening samples for breeding programs.

Abstract:Near infrared spectroscopy combined with chemometrics was investigated for the fast determination of total organic carbon (TOC) and soluble solids contents (SSC) of Tanreqing injection intermediates. The NIR spectra were collected in transflective mode, and the TOC and SSC reference values were determined with Multi N/C UV HS analyzer and loss on drying method. The samples were divided into calibration sets and validation sets using the Kennard–Stone (KS) algorithm. The Dixon test, leverage and studentized residual test were studied for the sample outlier analysis. The selection of wavebands, spectra pretreated method and the number of latent variables were optimized to obtain better results. The quantitative calibration models were established with 3 different PLS regression algorithms, named linear PLS, non-linear PLS and concentration weighted PLS, and the net result was defined as the average of the predicted values of the different calibration models. The overall results indicated that the presented method is more powerful than single multivariable regression method, characterized by higher mean recovery rate (MRR) of the validation set, and can be used for the rapid determination of TOC and SSC values of Tanreqing injection intermediates, which are two important quality indicators for the process monitoring.
A Feasibility Study on the Non-Invasive Analysis of Bottled Compound E Jiao Oral Liquid Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy

Abstract:The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy for the quantitative analysis of Compound E Jiao oral liquid, a popular oral TCM preparation, through intact glass vials. Transmission spectra were acquired with a sample holder tailored to the instrument's sample compartment. Total flavonoids, total saponins and soluble solid contents were considered as quality indicators of this oral preparation and calibration models were built using partial least-squares regression (PLSR) algorithm. The sample set was comprised of production samples as well as laboratory samples prepared by a concentrating-diluting method so as to extend the concentration range beyond the production variation. The developed models gave root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) of 0.084 mg mL(-1) for total flavonoids, 0.014 mg mL(-1) for total saponins and 0.21% for soluble solid contents. To better evaluate the prediction performance, an independent set of ten production samples was introduced for the external validation. The models are compared with those built with the transflectance spectra collected in the destructive way. The results of paired t-test and F-test at a significance level of 0.05 revealed that the two sets of models exhibited comparable model performance. The overall results demonstrate that the proposed non-destructive method can be used as an advantageous alternative in the quality inspection of Compound E Jiao oral liquid production. Abstract:The article analyzed the working theory in the application of near infrared spectrum and briefly discussed several common technologies in qualitative and quantitative analysis of near infrared spectroscopy. Quantitative analysis methods include multivariate linear regression, principal component regression, partial least squares method and artificial neural network etc ; qualitative analysis methods include NIR spectrum peak position identification, pattern recognition etc , and all these methods are compared. Moreover, the article introduced some achievements in application in gasoline, diesel oil quality analysis with near infrared spectroscopy. Near infrared spectroscopy methods are efficient and convenient for the application of analysis of oil quality, it has considerable applied value in industry.

Abstract:The production process of Chinese medicine is characterized by complex processes, tedious steps and complicated influences, as all aspects of formulation production affect the final quality of a Chinese medicine product. Online NIR spectroscopy has the advantages of rapid and non-destructive, and can be used as an analytical technique for rapid evaluation of critical quality properties in the production process of traditional Chinese medicine. This paper systematically described the analysis and control methods of online NIR spectroscopy in the production process of traditional Chinese medicine from the application perspective of enterprises, and takes the online NIR spectroscopy analysis platform for traditional Chinese medicine built by Zeda Xingbang Pharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd. as an example, to elucidate the feasibility of the application of online NIR spectroscopy in traditional Chinese medicine more comprehensively, discussed the economic benefits of the application of online NIR detection technology, and provided insights into the future The feasibility of the application of online NIR spectroscopy for Chinese medicine production is more comprehensively elucidated. The economic benefits of the application of on-line NIR detection technology were discussed and an outlook was also made for the future application of NIR technology in the field of Chinese medicine.
Rapid monitoring approaches for concentration process of lanqin oral solution by near-infrared spectroscopy and chemometric models

Abstract:Qualitative and quantitative detection methods based on near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRs) have been proposed in the process analysis of traditional Chinese medicine in recent years. In this study, rapid monitoring methods were developed for quality control of concentration process of lanqin oral solution (LOS). Partial least squares regression (PLSR) method was adopted to construct quantitative models for epigoitrin, geniposide, baicalin, berberine hydrochloride and density. Simultaneously, the genetic algorithm joint extreme learning machine (GA-ELM) was first applied in qualitative analysis of NIRs to distinguish end point of concentration process. Results of PLSR models were satisfactory with the relative standard error of calibration valued at 3.80%, 3.75%, 3.79%, 11.5% and 1.22% for epigoitrin, geniposide, baicalin, berberine hydrochloride and density respectively, and the residual predictive deviation values were higher than 3. For qualitative analysis, the GA-ELM model obtained 100% prediction accuracy. The PLSR quantitative models and the end point discrimination model constructed by GA-ELM correspond with the requirements of practical applications.
