Abstract:Objective To investigate the feasibility of maximum cytoreductive surgery for advanced ovarian cancer. Methods 22 cases of advanced ovarian cancer (stage Ⅲ or Ⅳ) underwent maximun cytoreductive surgery, in which the primary and secondery tumor-bearing lesion were resected maximally and periarotic and pelvic lymph nodes were dissected as well. The cytoreductive surgery was considered as a satisfactory operation when the residual lesion was less than 2 cm in diametre and sucessfully performed in 16 cases. Results The preoperative metastatic lesions with diametre over 2 cm were mainly located in ementum, pelvis and colon, the postoperative residual lesions with diametre over 2 cm were mainly located in pelvis and secondary at the gastrocolic ligment, hepatic hilum and splenic hilum. In accordence with the average 10(2~14) months follow-up, no recurrence occured in the 16 cases who underwent satisfied operation, the rest 6 cases demonstrated recurrence in 1 case, survive in 1 case, death in 3 cases and 1 case lost in follow-up. Conclusions Maximum cytoreductive surgery is feasible and effective for advanced and recurrent ovarian cancer.
