Abstract:The “3+1” teaching mode and project binding engineering capacity training system are introduced into the “Excellent Engineer Plan” of application-oriented light chemical engineering specialty. The applied excellent engineer training concept is determined through the analysis of the nature of engineering education and academic education, and the talent training system is built by highlighting the characteristics of engineering. The education system is carried out by taking advantage of industry development and background. The exploration and practice of teaching is conducted by the deep cooperation between university and enterprise for light chemical engineering, one of the outstanding project training specialties. This will be beneficial for cultivating high-quality engineering application talents characterized with engineering consciousness, engineering practice ability and innovation ability. The implement of teaching reform through the “3+1” training project, can serve as a reference on the training system for the university

Abstract:In a positive response to the Belt and Road initiative of China, the construction of international civil engineering program is proposed, and this program is urgently needed to train engineers serving for worldwide construction projects. This paper reports the practice of building International Civil Engineering program at the Nanjing Tech University. The background and target of this program are given, along with the organization and management of curriculum. The management of faculty members, establishment of regulations and facilities are introduced in this paper, followed by the discussion of the challenging problems and possible solutions.

Process Safety Progress

Abstract:An overview of Safety Engineering education in China is conducted. First, definition, research specialty, and development history of Safety Science and Engineering are introduced. Second, a geographical distribution study indicates that universities offering Safety Engineering in mainland China are mainly located in East China, Central North China, and some provinces in West and South China, which is consistent with the latest gross domestic product (GDP) and year-end resident population data. The analysis of evaluation in higher education focuses on engineering education accreditation, first-class discipline construction, and China University Subject Rankings. Third, Safety Engineering curricula in China mainly include general education courses and professional courses. The former is divided into basic education courses and subject education courses, and the latter is divided into professional core courses and professional characteristic courses. The professional characteristic courses offered by various universities are different from each other, mainly due to their research specialties, such as fire safety, chemical safety, mining safety, construction safety, and nuclear safety. Finally, existing challenges, including a lack of engineering practice, lack of systematic course content, and lack of professional competitiveness, are discussed.

Abstract:From the Agenda for the 21st Century to the Education 2030 Framework for Action, the international community continues to promote education for sustainable development (ESD) and to integrate, reshape, and innovate the existing education systems. The concept of ESD has been leading the reform of international engineering education since the 21st century and is increasingly becoming an important strategic choice to improve the quality of engineering education. In the study, we first explore the historical evolution of ESD and analyze the demand characteristics of engineering science and technology personnel supporting ESD toward 2030; the analysis is conducted from the following aspects: new requirements of training objectives and key abilities based on ESD, analysis of the International Engineering Alliance Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies framework, and China’s engineering education reform practice. Based on the concept of ESD, we summarize the challenges existing in the training of engineering scientific and technological personnel in China, specifically regarding training orientation, training process design, and student assessment and evaluation. The research shows that China’s action for promoting ESD for 2030 should strengthen top-level design to exert policy synergy, promote international cooperation to integrate global high-quality resources, optimize professional layout to maximize the advantages of professional clusters, improve curriculum teaching for training excellent engineering personnel, and strengthen accreditation while improving the quality standards system, thereby promoting the continuous improvement of the quality of engineering science and technology personnel that meet the sustainable development goals.

Abstract:Nowadays large-scale engineering thought and individual multiple space are absent in engineering practice training system, and transmission of knowledge is separated from the practice of technique. Therefore the paper proposes the diversified engineering practice training system based-on the large-scale engineering view. Abstract:With the rapid development of China's higher education and social economy, the community's demand for civil engineering talents has been continuously improved. The competition for talents has changed from quantitative to qualitative. It is imperative to build a new knowledge structure for civil engineering talents. In addition to the employment pressure brought about by the continuous expansion of enrollment, the civil engineering major focuses on the theory and but not on practice. It is difficult for the cultivated students to adapt to the actual needs of society and to keep up with the development speed of modern civil engineering. The reason for this is that it is very important that the talent training in universities is out of line with actual needs. Therefore, with the changes in the requirements of the civil engineering talents in the market, it is extremely urgent for civil engineering majors in contemporary colleges and universities to further develop the training model of composite talents for civil engineering based on their social needs, the development and trends of civil engineering, and their actual conditions. This article analyzes the current status and problems of civil engineering talents training in China's colleges and universities, and explores the training model for composite innovative talents in civil engineering.
