Abstract:Objective:To study the effect of suitable biodegradable bone cem ent on percutaneous vertebroˉplasty(PVP).Methods:PVP was performed under DSA guidance in6adult dogs at24segment levels using inˉjectable self_setting calcium phosphate cement. All dogs were checked with CT after the procedure and were observed.Specimens of augmented vertebrae were taken from two dogs at2,4,and6_months postoperatively respectively. The bone_cement interface was observed with electron microscope scanning. Results:All dogs surˉvived without paralysis or incision complication.Injectable self_setting calcium phosphate cement can be injected easily with adequate osacification. The vertebrae augmented with bone cement were showed on CT scanning without significant epidural leak.On electron microscope scanning, the bone cement and host cancellous bone was interdigitating, the interface become indistinct in4of8speciment at2months,and the replacement of ceˉment with host bone was found in all specimens at6months.Conclusion:PVP with injectable self_setting calciˉum phosphate offered an opportunity of permanent augmentation and reestablishment at vertebrae with gradual replacement of bone cement by host bone.
