The Relationship Between BSNs' Perceptions of Clinical Learning Environment and Their Clinical Performance

Abstract:Objective:The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the BSNs' perceptions of clinical learning environment and their self-evaluation of the clinical performance.Method:A descriptive correlational design and a purposive sampling method was used in this study. The subjects were 115 BSNs all in the final clinical probation phase from five medical colleges in China. The clinical learning environment scale (CLES) was used to measure the BSNs' perceptions of the clinical learning environment, and BSN's clinical evaluation tool (CET) was used to measure their self-evaluation of the clinical performance. The reliability value for CLES and CET were 0.95 and 0.86, respectively. Results: There were 114 effective questionnaires sent back. The mean score of CLES was 3.31±0.58. The mean score of CET was 2.57±0.52. By Pearson analysis, the co-efficient between the students' perceptions of CLE and their clinical performance was 0.53, P0.01. Conclusions: The BSNs are moderately satisfied with their clinical learning environment. Students are relatively satisfied with their clinical performance. The study shows that BSNs' perception of their CLE is moderately and positively correlated with their clinical performance.
