Abstract:The oxidation capacity of ozone is improved and the degradation rate of pollutants is increased by ultrasonic irradiation. The ozone decomposition rate as well as mass transfer rate could be enhanced and results in the augmentation of the active free radicals. The ozone combined with ultrasonic irradiation is the efficient means of degrading azo dyes in waste water and refractory organics such as nitroaromatics in water. In the process of water treatment, the major influencing factors are ozone dose, ultrasonic density and pH.

Abstract:Ozone is activated oxygen and it is referred to as a triatomic form of oxygen. It is a natural agent and has a broad antimicrobial property, which together with an oxidation potential, make it an attractive option for the food industry. This article focuses on the use of ozone for preservation of vegetables, fruits and fruit juices, and highlights the inactivation mechanism of microorganisms. The application of ozone in grain storage and the quality of ozone treated grains is discussed, along with the reaction kinetics of ozone in grains.

Abstract:Based on the observational data of ground O3,NOx and meteorological conditions in Shantou,Jieyang and Chaozhou in July,the interrelationship between them and the O3 pollution of this area was analysed.The results showed that O3 pollution was light at the area,while the lightest polluted area was Shantou,followed by Chaozhou.The relation between O3 and NOx or between O3 and air humidity was negative,and the relation between O3 and air temperature was positive.O3 was easily to be generated and accumulated when air temperature was high and relative humidity was low.

Abstract:Utilizing ozone water to disinfect and keep fresh of fruits and vegetables was a safe and effective method,and the appropriate ozone concentration made the base of guarantee disinfection reliability and the economic using.Based on the brief introduction of the application of ozone water in the sterilization of fruits and vegetables and the removal of pesticide residues,and the main determination method of ozone water,this paper mainly overviewed the research of oxidation reduction potential(ORP) method which was the ozone water line measurement method in fruits and vegetables disinfection and its application.The ORP method was a kind of economical and practical method for determination of the concentration of ozone water for sterilization of fruits and vegetables.

Abstract:Ozone is key species in atmospheric chemistry. Stratospheric ozone is considered to be "a protective umbrella of earth life" because it absorbs biologically harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun. In the natural air of the troposphere a suitable amount of ozone is beneficial to clean air. However I due to the increase in the emission of ozone precursors in the troposphere, particularly in large cities, the generated ozone with high concentrations can lead to severe pollution, which is harmful to humans, animals, plants and ecological environment. Studies of ozone atmospheric chemistry are generally carried out in terms of the combination of field observations, simulation experiments using smog chamber in the laboratory and numerical simulations on the computer. The further research on atmospheric ozone chemistry is very helpful not only in understanding oxidation processes in the atmosphere and self-cleaning capacity on the regional and global scale, but also in providing scientific basis and methods for pollution controlling in the troposphere. This paper summarizes the progress in the ozone chemistry in recent years, and discusses the relations between ozone and main environmental problems that human beings are facing with. The emphasis is placed on reviewing the ozone hole in the Antarctic, low values of ozone in the middle latitudes and the mechanism of depletion of ozone in the Arctic, and their development trends in recent years. The coupling relations of ozone with atmospheric photochemistry and aerosols are reviewed. Moreover, according to real situations in China, some important scientific problems are put forward for the future research on atmospheric ozone chemistry.

Abstract:Fruits and vegetables consumption has risen noticeably during recent decades, leading to a greater frequency of foodborne illnesses associated with fresh produce. Novel industrial applications and improvements in ozone technology together with new regulatory actions worldwide have emerged in recent years, making its use in the food industry easier. This technology has attracted considerable commercial interest, especially because ozone does not leave any residues on the treated produce and it is also accepted by many organic grower organizations. However, discrepancies regarding the efficacy of this technology are often found in the bibliography and further research is still needed. These differences could be attributed to a great variability in the conditions of the research work: method of ozone generation and application, O3 concentration and exposure time to the gas, as well as the way in which produce is packed. In this sense, standardization in the working conditions and in the units to measure ozone concentration will be useful to better understand the mode of action and the effects of ozone on food products. Consequently, it would be possible to improve its potential as a sanitizer in the food industry.

Abstract:The developing tendency and character of the application of Ozone in fruit and vegetable fresh keeping were introduced. The research and experiment of ozone in storage of apple,tomato and citrus on the usual temperature had been performed with the Ozone technology and packaging technology. At the same time,the rotten rate, the good fruit rate, the weight loss rate, the content of soluble solid, the content of reduction sugar, the general acid, the VC content, and the content of chlorophyll had been tested in the experiment. It was proved that preservative period of fruit and vegetable can be extended more than two weeks by using the technology. Helpful information was provided for preservation of fruit and vegetable in modern commodity distribution. 

Abstract:The need for microorganism control in the food industry has promoted research in food processing technologies. Ozone is considered to be a promising food preserving technique and has gained great interest due to its strong oxidative properties and significant antimicrobial efficiency, and because its decomposition leaves no residues in foods. In this ozone technology review, the properties and the oxidation potential of ozone, and the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affect the microorganism inactivation efficiency of both gaseous and aqueous ozone, are explained, as well as the mechanisms of ozone inactivation of foodborne pathogenic bacteria, fungi, mould, and biofilms. This review focuses on the latest scientific studies on the effects of ozone in controlling microorganism growth, maintaining food appearance and sensorial organoleptic qualities, assuring nutrient contents, enhancing the quality of food, and extending food shelf life, e.g., vegetables, fruits, meat, and grain products. The multifunctionality effects of ozone in food processing, in both gaseous and aqueous form, have promoted its use in the food industries to meet the increased consumer preference for a healthy diet and ready-to-eat products, although ozone may present undesirable effects on physicochemical characteristics on certain food products at high concentrations. The combined uses of ozone and other techniques (hurdle technology) have shown a promotive future in food processing. It can be concluded from this review that the application of ozone technology upon food requires increased research; specifically, the use of treatment conditions such as concentration and humidity for food and surface decontamination.

Abstract:The need for sustainable food production and the demand for fresh and minimally processed foods have prompted remarkable research in novel food processing technologies that ensure safe and shelf-stable food for a large population. Long-established techniques such as heating, drying, and freezing have been associated with nutrient loss and high energy consumption. This trend has drawn attention to the practice of employing ozone in several food applications owing to its significant disinfectant and antimicrobial efficiency. The aqueous form of ozone has been found to show greater efficacy than its gaseous form, with faster decomposition rates leaving no harmful residues. The current study presents an overview of the latest scientific literature on the properties, chemistry, and generation of aqueous ozone, emphasizing the factors affecting process efficiency. The review scrupulously focuses on food decontamination, starch modification, pesticide degradation, and seed germination effects of aqueous ozone, highlighting the optimum processing parameters and salient findings of some major studies. A brief insight into the limitations and future trends has also been presented. Aqueous ozone has been acclaimed to have the potential to cause significant changes in the food matrix that could result in constructive modifications with outcomes entirely dependent on the processing conditions. Indirect and direct reactions involving hydroxyl radical and molecular oxygen atoms, respectively, form the basis of the ozone reaction in aqueous media, providing a distinctive kind of advanced oxidation process that offers certain crucial benefits. With a shorter half-life in water as compared to air, the rapid decomposition of aqueous ozone to oxygen, leaving no harmful residues, adds to its advantages.

Abstract:Organic pollution is a significant challenge in environmental protection, especially the discharge of refractory organic pollutants in chemical production and domestic use. The biological treatment method of traditional sewage treatment plants cannot degrade such pollutants, which leads to the continuous transfer of these pollutants into the water environment. Therefore, it is necessary to study clean and efficient advanced treatment technologies to degrade organic pollutants. The ozone/UV advanced oxidation process (O3/UV) has attracted extensive attention. This paper summarizes the reaction mechanism of O3/UV and analyzes its application progress in industrial wastewater, trace polluted organic matter and drinking water. The existing research results show that this technology has an excellent performance in the degradation of organic pollutants and has the characteristics of clean and environmental protection. In addition, the control of bromate formation and its economy is evaluated, and its operating characteristics and current application scope are summarized, which has a practical reference value for the follow-up in-depth study of the O3/UV process.

Abstract:The food industry faces numerous challenges today, with the prevention and reduction of microbial contamination being a critical focus. While traditional chemical-based methods are effective and widely used, rising energy costs, the development of microbial tolerances, and growing awareness of the ecological impact of chemical biocides have renewed interest in novel biocides. Ozone, in both its gaseous and aqueous forms, is recognized as a potent disinfectant against bacteria, viruses, and fungi due to its high oxidation potential. Our review highlights several studies on the applications of ozone within the food industry, including its use for surface and aerosol disinfection and its capacity to reduce viable Listeria monocytogenes, a pertinent foodborne pathogen harbouring environmental and biocide stress tolerances and biofilm former. We also explore the use of ozone in food treatment and preservation, specifically on blueberries, apples, carrots, cabbage, and cherry tomatoes. While ozone is an effective disinfectant, it is important to consider material incompatibility, and the risks associated with prolonged human exposure to high concentrations. Nevertheless, for certain applications, ozone proves to be an efficacious and valuable alternative or complementary method for microbial control. Compliance with the biocide products regulation will require ozone device manufacturers to produce proven efficacy and safety data in line with British standards based on European standards (BS EN), and researchers to propose adaptations to account for ozone's unique properties.

Abstract:This article provides definitions of the positive and negative effects of the use of chlorine and ozone in water disinfection and presents the methodology and results of experimental studies of the parameters of water treatment with ozone, the electrodispersion method, as well as the electrode system "potential plane with corona needles - grounded plane". The parameters of water treatment modes were determined by the method of three variants of aerosol charge, negative, positive and bipolar. The parameters of water treatment with ozone determined on the basis of these studies were verified on the basis of experimental studies of the process of ozone effects on aerosol particles in the contact chamber. The methodology and analysis of the results of these studies are given. Based on these studies, the best ratios of the parameters of water flow, air velocity and electrical voltage were determined. The best disinfection result was determined by the charge polarities of the water aerosol.

Abstract:Based on the laboratory experiment and HPLC(High Performance Liquid Chromatography)analysis,the characteristics of ozonation of aquatic humic substances were studied with an evaluation of the molecular weight distribution before and after ozonation.The results show that ozonation does not bring about a substantial removal of total organic carbon (TOC),but a change in the chara-cteristics and stucture of organic substances.After ozonation,larger molecules are broken into smaller molecules and in the meanwhile,the portion of organic substances with saturate structure has increased.

Abstract:The degradation of 2,4-dichlorophoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) by ozonation combined with sonication(O 3/US) was investigated.Based on the authors’ first paper about the synergistic effect of ozone and US, this paper presents intermediate products of 2,4-D degradation.The main intermediates were 2,4- dichlorophenol, benzopuinone, hydroquinone and organic acids,such as maleic acid and oxalic acid and so on.In various experimental conditions, concentrations of main intermediates and chloride ion in the solution were determined to analyze reaction pathways, and the degradation mechanism was discussed.

Abstract:In recent years, atmospheric ozone pollution has become more and more serious in many areas of China due to the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization. The increase in atmospheric ozone concentration will not only cause harm to the human respiratory tract, nervous system and immune system, but also cause obvious harm to crops, which will lead to reductions in crop production. Therefore, the study of atmospheric ozone pollution should not be ignored in research on the atmospheric environment. In this paper, we summarized the formation mechanisms of atmospheric ozone, the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of atmospheric ozone in some areas of China, the relationship between atmospheric ozone and its precursors, and the main factors affecting the concentration of atmospheric ozone. Then, the control countermeasures against atmospheric ozone pollution were put forward in combination with the actual situation in China.

Abstract:The degradation of 2,4-dichlorophoxyacetic acid (2,4-D)by using ozonation alone(O 3) or ozonation combined with sonication(O 3/US)was studied.The results showed significant synergistic effect of ozone and ultrasound.·OH radical played an important role in the degradation of 2,4-D by the O 3/US technique.Under ultrasound irradiation,mechanical effects of ultrasonic energy enhanced the mass transfer of gaseous ozone to the liquid phase.The enhancement of ultrasound was mainly attributed to that ozone decomposition could be accelerated to produce abundant radicals by cavitation effect, which resulted in high temperatures and pressures during cavitation bubbles collapse.

Abstract:In recent years, fresh fruits and vegetables have been sought after by Chinese people. The fresh-keeping technology, storage, and transportation of fruits and vegetables have also attracted a large number of people's attention. Various methods of preservation, storage, and transportation of fruits and vegetables have begun to appear in the society. Micro and nanobubbles have the characteristics of long stay time, larger than the surface, high surface negative electricity, strong reliability, high efficiency of heat transfer, can cause oxygen free radicals, can greatly improve the actual effect of ozone and ozone utilization rate, and reduce the operation cost. This article aims to study the application of ozone micro-nano bubble processing vegetable fresh-keeping technology in air logistics and transportation, and put forward the idea of applying ozone micro-nano bubble processing fresh-keeping technology to fruits and vegetables fresh-keeping and transportation more widely. This article focuses on the introduction of ozone micro-nano bubbles, fresh-keeping technology, air transportation, and experiments on some fresh-keeping technologies in the article. The experimental results show that the vegetable preservation technology based on ozone micro-nano bubbles can better maintain the moisture and nutrients in the vegetables. The preservation technology of ozone micro-nano bubble treatment has improved the preservation of fruits and vegetables by 12%.

Abstract:With the development of industry and agriculture,source water has been polluted in different levels.The increasing concentration of organic matter,inorganic matter and ions in the water have some impact on drinking water disinfection.In order to establish a safer water treatment technology and to provide some theoretical guidance and technical support,it is very important to understand drinking water disinfection factors.Therefore,this article reviewed the status of ozone disinfection,including disinfection mechanism and influence factors,such as temperature,pH,organic matter,inorganic particles and ions.Meanwhile,the article introduced the combination process.Overall,ozone disinfection has strong disinfection ability and is regarded as a promising disinfection process.

Abstract:The study on the treatment of high concentration organic wastewater by using the ozone catalytic oxidation technology alone is reviewed,and the existing problems in its engineering application are pointed out.The effects of combination between ozone catalytic oxidation technology and biotechnology technology on the treatment of high concentration organic wastewater are described.The main factors influencing ozone catalytic oxidation technology are discussed,and then the prospects and suggestions for the development of advanced oxidation technology and combination process are put forward.
