Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between plasma leptin and clinical phenotypes in male patients with premature coronary heart disease(CHD).Methods 81 patients with chest discomfort were recruited to participate in this study.By coronary angiography,61 patients with documented premature CHD (Group A) and 20 persons without CHD (Group B) were indentified and clinical phenotypes of premature CHD were used to analyze.Plasma leptin,C-reactive protein (CRP) and lipids were detected and clinical characteristics of all patients were collected and analyzed. Results Men in Group A had higher plasma leptin〔(18.78±3.29) ng/mL vs (11.90±2.60)ng/mL,P0.01〕,CRP,total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides (TG) and body mass index(BMI)(P0.05).There also had higher ratio of cigarette smoking and lower level of apolipoprotein A in Group A(P0.05).Compared with individuals with stable angina pectoris and unstable angina pectoris, patients with acute myocardial infarction had higher level of leptin.Bivariate analysis suggested higher leptin was associated with higher BMI(r=0.32,P0.01) and CRP(r=0.34,P0.01).By multivariate analysis, higher leptin (OR 5.93;95% CI:1.33~29.98,P=0.015),cigarette smoking and cholesterol were significant risk factors for male premature CHD.Conclusion Plasma leptin was an independent risk factor for male premature CHD and associated with its clinical phenotypes.
