Recent Advances in Research on RNA Interference

Abstract:During the five years since its discovery, great progress has been made in the research of RNA interference (RNAi). especially in techniques of the production and introduction of siRNA, which has made possible the stable expression of the introduced siRNA. The discovery of the germ-line transmission of RNAi has further expanded its potential of application. Besides silencing the target genes, however, the introduction of siRNA can also result in sequence-specificity of siRNA, instead of target gene-specific silencing effect, i. e. , off-target effect, suggesting that care should be exercised in the interpretation of the silencing effect of specific siRNA, especially in the treatment of diseases.
