Abstract:The genus Gnathostrangalia was established by Hayashi in 1985. In comparison with the allied genus Pygostrongalia, this genus is characterized by the longer forehead, broader prothorax with more developed hind angles, broader elytra at base and rather straightly narrowed posteriorly. Five species have been transfered into this genus, viz. Strangalia aurivillei Pic (Tonkin), S. rufovittata Pic (Tonkin), Leptura bilineatithorax Pic (Tonkin), Strangalia longiceps Aurivillius (Borneo)and S. tienmushana Gressitt (China). Only single species is known from China. In this paper, two additional new species are described from Guangxi and Sichuan provinces of China, and a key to the known species of the genus Gnathostrangalia is provided.1. Gnathostrangalia simianshana Chiang et Chen, sp. nov. (Fig. 1)Female: Body black. Clypeus, labrum, mandible ligamentous fringe and galea testaceus; antennae black on basal 5 joints and yellow on 6-11th joints. Prothorax and Scutellum black, feebly pubescent, denser on posterior lobe of pronotal disc and behind lateral tubercles; Elytra yellowish brown on basal half, with two equadistant transverse black bands on the disk, the anterior band angulately extended forward at the middle, the posterior band broadened externally and attaching external margin, apical half of the elytra pichy black. Ventral surface entirely black. Fore and middle femora and tibiae yellowish brown, darkened at apices of tibiae and tarsi, hind legs black.Forehead narrowly prolonged, underside long and flat, rectangular; frons, clypeus, genae, vertex and occiput densely punctulated; mandibles slender and acute, with branched ligamentous fringe well developed ;a median groove lying in furrow from upper part of frons extending to the middle of occiput; eyes rounded and prominent; genae elongate, slightly longer than eyes; head strongly constricted behind eyes; antennae notexceeding elytral apices, basal five joints covered with short black hairs, denser and longer at apices, scape shorter than 3rd or 5th joints, subequal to 4th, 5th slightly shorter than 3rd, subequal to llth. Prothorax campanuliform with an obtuse short tubercle before middle of each side, basal angles moderately prolonged, but not reaching humeral angles, pronotal disk densely punctulated, depressed at center with a fine longitudinal inpunctat-ed line not reaching anterior and posterior margin. Scutellum triangular, thinly clothed with golden pubescence. Elytra broader than prothorax at bases, narrowed toward middle, and then straightly narrowed posteriorly, apices obliquely emarginate, marginal an- . gles acutely produced. Hind femora not reaching apex of abdomen, tibiae slender, spurs long, tarsi longer than tibia, first tarsal segment longer than remaining segments. Fifth abdominal sternum shallowly concaved.Body length: 22.5 mm ;breadth: 5 mm.Holotype: Female. Sichuan (Chongqing, Jiangjin, Simian Shan) 1200 m. 27-VI -1991. by Yin Youping, adult on flowers of Emberifereae.Paratype: Female. body length 23 mm, breadth 5 mm. collecting data same as holotype, by Xiao Chonggang. This species differs from G. rufovittata Pic from Tonkin, Vietnam in= (1) elytra pitchy black on posterior half instead of only blackened at apices, (2) with two transverse black bands on basal half of elytra disk instead of one black longitudinal stripe and two small black spots, (3) basal five antennal joints black, and apical six joints yellow instead of only 9- 1 Oth and part of 11th joints ochraceus.2. Gnathostrangalia nigriventralis Chiang et Wang.sp. nov. (Fig. 2)Body yellowish brwon. Head tipped with black on apices of mandibles and apical joints of maxillary palpi; occiput and antennae black. Prothorax black on basal and apical margins, a pair of oblique black stripe on disc; largely black on the intercoxal process of mesosternum and narrowly margined with black on coxae; fore and middle tarsi blackish brown, hind tibiae and tarsi black. Elytra testaceus, decorated with a subquadrate spot on basal fifth and a larger transverse spot before middle, with external end reaching l
