Abstract:This paper details on the design of DVB-S2 receivers which is compliant with the constant coding and modulation (CCM) mode. Special attention is paid to the specific receiver functions necessary to demodulate the received signal. To show the system performance we consider the design of a complete receiver consisting of timing recovery unit, frame synchronization unit, frequency recovery unit, frequency phase recovery unit and a digital automatic gain controller. The system is easier to hardware implementation comparing with the system provided in [4] and [8]. After the performance of the algorithms is analyzed and a quantitative result is given, this allows us to draw conclusions concerning the achievable system performance under realistic complexity assumptions.

Abstract:This paper details on the design of DVB-S2 demodulator. The architecture of the demodulator compliant with the CCM (Constant Coding and Modulation) mode comprises timing recovery unit, frame synchronization unit, frequency recovery unit and frequency phase recovery unit. The system is easier to hardware implementation comparing with the system provided in [41 and [8]. After the key demodulation algorithms were discussed, a quantitative result is given, this allows us to draw conclusions concerning the achievable system performance under realistic complexity assumptions.

Abstract:Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) has been widely used because it can obtain 2.55-7.37 dB coding gain without bandwidth expansion or reduction of the effective information rates. Since Viterbi Decoder (VD) plays an important role in the realization of HDTV system, the research and development on integration of VDs were conducted. factors which affect the performance of VDs and their solutions was studied. A completed VLSI circuit design for an 8-state 32QAM VD (30,000 gates in scale) is also reported.

Abstract:In order to resolve the problems of large area,complicated routing and high power in decoding low-density parity-check codes(LDPC),this work presented a LDPC decoding approach,which is specified with parity check matrices based on circulant matrices,with structured memory and a corresponding partial parallel decoding architecture.By studying the structured parity matrix,the characteristic of the message passing between bit nodes and check nodes was indicated,and then a predetermined scheme of message storing with high flexibility and efficiency was proposed.Based on this scheme,a partial parallel decoding architecture was provided which significantly reduced the power and critical paths.Simulation of the LDPC in Chinese digital terrestrial television broadcasting standard on FPGA platform showed that the proposed decoding approach over AWGN channel achieved good performance,and suffered negligible performance loss compared with the double precision while effectively reducing the operation complexity.

Abstract:This paper proposes an implementation scheme of symbol-processing in DVB-S receiver. By using Secondary Encode and special sync-searching byte-recovering circuits, not only the processing time reduces remarkably, but also needs less hardware resource. This scheme has already been applied in the chip design of satellite digital television.

Abstract:Interchannel interference(ICI) is a dominant source of error for OFDM systems in mobile dispersive fading channels. This paper provides an ICI analysis in time-variant multipath channels. Based on this analysis, the paper proposes an efficient channel estimation and ICI mitigation method for DVB-T/H system and further proposes and improved algorithm. The whole receiver system based on FPGA has been successfully aligned and debugged. The rationality and robustness of the design has been verified.

Abstract:The implementation method of the receiver carrier recovery loop of microsatellite affects the volume,weight and function reconfigurability of the transponder.Based on analysis of the traditional carrier recovery loop,using I/Q sub-sampling technique,this work presented a receiver architecture based on all digital carrier recovery loop using coordinate rotation digital computer(CORDIC) algorithm.This method omits four computationally intensive multipliers of complex mixer and the large lookup table used by direct digital frequency synthesis.The solution is verified by the system simulation using Matlab and a hardware description language simulation using ModelSim.Furthermore,the very high speed integrated circuit hardware description language(VHDL) code of the carrier recovery loop was synthesized on a specific field programmable gate array(FPGA).The result showed that this circuit only needed 3.6% of the logic resource and achieved the maximum frequency of 226 MHz.The methodology can be applied to the design of other reconfigurable receivers.

Abstract:The paper describes a DVB based HDTV audio decoder used in multi-channel extension and presents an improved algorithm for the synthesis filter bank. It is found that when the symmetry of coefficient and the similarity of the allocation tables, computational amount and memory size are reduced by more than 50%. DSP/BIOS operating system simplifies developing various DSP systems. This decoder can also be used in Digital Audio Broadcasting systems.

Abstract:With the co-efforts from Zhejiang University,Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Xidian Universi-ty,a transmission scheme of the Advanced Digital Television Broadcasting System(ADTB)is presented in this paper.The simulated system functions and performance are superior to that of international DTV transmission standards.A stable fixed,portable and even mobile reception of large volume broadcasting data can be attained with a consumer grade tuner and various modulation modes.The scheme is also designed to support SFN and on-channel repeater functions,to incorporate efficient digital cable transmission modes,and to be easily compatible with some foreign standards.The presented scheme is one of the ideal candidates of DTV broadcasting standards being defined in our country.[

Abstract:This paper introduces a Video on Demand system based on both CATV broadcasting channels and IP interactive network. CATV broadcasting channels are used for content transmission and IP network is used for control information transmission between Set Top Box and Headend Server. The control mechanism of whole system is designed and implemented according to DSM-CC protocol stacks. The paper narrates the end-to-end system diagram and VoD application software of Set Top Box. The system can be used in CATV network and provide VoD services for CATV subscribers.

Abstract:The paper presents the design of high performance AGC module based on pulse density modulation (PDM) technology in digital television demodulator to overcome the shortcoming of traditional AGC based on pulse width modulation (PWM). Test result shows that this design overcomes the weakness of long converge time, instability and large volume requirement of peripheral components in AGC based PWM.

Abstract:During the present decade, DVB-T has been the most widely-used standard for digital terrestrial television in the world. This paper analyzes phase noise effects on the performance of DVB-T system and presents two methods of the CPE (common phase error) equalization which adapted to the DVB-T system and are easy to be implemented with hardware. Simulation results show that the methods are very effective, especially in fading channels.

Abstract:As an effective digital modulation scheme, OFDM is widely used in wideband digital communication systems, such as DVB-T. In this paper, an all-digitized OFDM demodulator for DVB-T is proposed. Based on the analysis of those factors that interfere with demodulation, the architecture of demodulator is presented. Then functional modules that implement digitized demodulator, such as symbol synchronization, carrier synchronization, clock synchronization, and channel compensation, are explained. At the end, the BER performance of the demodulator is given. As the result shows, the all-digitized demodulator has good performance.

Abstract:In order to receive digital video broadcasting(DVB) program with computer,this paper presents an application specific integrated circuits(ASIC) design of DVB transport stream receiving chip based on PCI interface.Hardware-software partitioning strategy is based on real-time requirement and complexity profiles of DVB system.Data path architecture is focused on the design of high-speed channel to improve the bandwidth.Furthermore,the parameters of chaining mode direct memory access(DMA) and the depth of buffer are optimized by theory analysis.The result indicates the bandwidth of chaining mode DMA is up to 476.6 Mb/s,which is 25 times as much as original DMA strategy.The chip can enhance the ability of receiving data and has been fabricated in 0.35 μm CMOS process of Fujitsu.

Abstract:A DVB receiving chip with PCI interface for PC is presented. The chip supports DVB protocols and integrates useful interfaces, including I 2 C, SmartCard and PCI. A card with this chip could change PC into digital TV terminal. The architecture of FPGA prototype system together with some main design issues is introduced. The experimental result shows that the chip could accomplish required functionalities.

Abstract:Due to the unequal error protection (UEP) property of both the irregular low-density parity-check (LDPC) code and the higher-order modulation, bit mapping is proposed as a joint optimization of the LDPC coded-modulation scheme. In this paper, we discuss the bit mapping optimization performed by employing an additional DEMUX following the given bit interleaver, and then apply it to the second generation digital video broadcasting system for cable (DVB-C2). The extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart technique is adopted to analyze the influence of bit mapping on the iterative decoding process. Based on the EXIT-chart analysis, an optimization method is proposed to design the DEMUX for performance improvement. As an example, we re-design the DEMUX for the DVB-C2 system with reduced DEMUX width. The superior performance of the optimized DEMUX is verified by the bit error rate (BER) simulation.
