Abstract:Mixed-mode chromatography is a new kind of chromatography technology for bioseparation.The special ligand combines two or more interaction modes,commonly hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions.Mixed-mode chromatography can directly capture target protein from moderate-ionic-strength feedstock without the need of dilution or other additives,which certainly improves the process efficiency and reduces the cost of primary recovery in the downstream process.This paper reviews the current advances in mixed-mode chromatography,as well as technical history and some applications.The future development and application areas are also discussed.

Abstract:Recent progress in capillary ion chromatography is reviewed at two aspects of preparation of capillary ion chromatographic columns and manufacture of capillary ion chromatography instrument. And the content of capillary ion chromatography instrument includes micro-flow pump, injector, suppressors, conductometric detectors, UV-Vis detectors and fluorescence detectors with small volumes.

Abstract:The development of ion chromatography has made remarkable progress in the past few decades, and it is now widely used for the analysis of common ions and organic compounds. Ion chromatography has many advantages, such as fast, high sensitivity, good selectivity and support for simultaneous analysis of multiple ionic compounds. In order to meet the high requirements of material analysis, new packing materials for ion chromatography with higher sensitivity and selectivity have been developed. In this paper, a lot of knowledge of ion chromatography is reviewed, and the development of ion chromatographic packings in recent years, especially in the last five years, is summarized.

Abstract:As an advanced analytical technology, Ion Chromatography (IC) has been widely used in various fields. At present, it is faced with the challenges of sample complexity and instrument precision. It is necessary to select appropriate pretreatment methods to achieve sample preparation and protect the instruments. Therefore, this paper reviews several commonly used sample pretreatment technologies in IC, focusing on sample digestion and purification techniques. Additionally, we introduce some advanced IC technologies and automatic sample processing devices. We provide a comprehensive summary of the basic principles, primary applications and the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Pretreatment methods should be carefully selected and optimized on the specific characteristics of the sample and the ions to be measured, in order to achieve better analysis results.

Abstract:Ion chromatography is a technique commonly used to separate strongly polar and ionizable substances; it can be used to separate, identify, and quantify ionizable compounds in complex samples when coupled with mass spectrometry, and is currently being used in the application of food analysis, drug analysis, metabolomics and clinical poisoning analysis. Herein, we review the development of ion chromatography-mass spectrometry (IC-MS), its progress over the past 20 years, and future trends in the abovementioned areas. The IC-MS research progress and applications for the determination of inorganic anions, organic acids, polar pesticides, biogenic amines, and sugars in the food field are discussed. Drug analysis applications are discussed mainly in relation to the analysis of drug impurities, identifying drug degradation products, and determination of plasma concentration, while the separation and analysis of strongly polar metabolites, such as organic acids, sugar phosphates, and nucleotides in biological matrices are discussed in relation to metabolomics. Advances in the analysis of strongly polar or ionizable toxic compounds, such as alkyl methylphosphonic acid, methylphosphonic acid, glyphosate, 3-nitropropionic acid, and indandione rodenticides, are mainly discussed in clinical poisoning analysis field. This paper is expected to become a useful reference for the further expansion and application of IC-MS in the life and health fields.

During this period, the chromatography researchers of China have made significant achievements, published a considerable number of papers in the world-class academic journals and made some impacts on the international research. This review article specifically highlights the most recent advances of the newly developed efficient chromatographic separation materials in 2020–2021, mainly focusing on their novel synthesis strategies, performance evaluation, as well as their latest applications in hydrophilic interaction chromatography and chiral separation that are the research hotspots and have received the most attention. Abstract:Ion chromatography (IC) is widely used in the anions and cations analysis for its rapid detection and high sensitivity. With the increasing requirement of detecting organic of samples, developing a suitable pretreatment method is important. Pyrolysis apparatus can be operated automatically and easily with high sensitivity and good repeatability. In the paper, the basic principles and types of burners are introduced. The pyrolysis combined with ion chromatography (pyrolysis-IC) are applied in biology, petroleum, coal, materials, environment and other organic samples. The further development of pyrolysis-IC are also introduced.

Abstract:Ion chromatography (IC) plays a crucial role in urine analysis for diverse medical diagnoses. This paper reviews a comprehensive investigation into urine pretreatment techniques, as well as the design and development of IC systems for the measurement of various chemicals. Prior to analysis, urine samples commonly undergo pretreatment procedures such as dilution, filtration, purification, and concentration. These steps effectively eliminate interfering factors and facilitate the accurate and sensitive analysis of ultra-trace components. To separate and quantify different chemical elements or ions present in urine, a range of homemade or commercially available columns coupled with various detectors were employed. This study focuses on the analysis of chemicals such as heavy metals, halogens, pesticides, drugs, and other essential or toxic substances by IC methods.

Abstract:Countercurrent chromatography is a powerful separation technique, which is used as an alternative or complementary technique to other chromatographic methods due to its high efficiency and preparative capacity. This technique does not require a solid stationary phase and relies simply on the partition of a sample between the two phases of an immiscible solvent system. Thus, it eliminates the complications resulting from the solid support matrix, such as irreversible adsorptive sample loss and deactivation, tailing of solute peaks, and contamination. With these advantages, CCC is gaining popularity as an important separation method. This review summarizes the basic principles and gives the most recent CCC applications in various areas, including the isolation and purification of natural products, development of different elution modes and multidimensional methods, progress in pH‐zone‐refining CCC techniques, bioseparation with aqueous polymer two‐phase systems, enantioseparation with various efficient chiral selectors, and on‐line monitoring of the eluate.
