Abstract:In this paper, the copper(Ⅱ) benzoate ternary complex ［Cu(ba)2(phen)(H2O)］2(where ba=benzoic acid and phen=1，10-phenanthroline has been synthesized. It was studied by IR and UV-VIS spectrum which indicates that Cu（Ⅱ）ion is five coordinated in the complex.

Abstract:Binuclear complex [Cu2 (mu-I)2 (phen)2] x CH3CN(1)(phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) was synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that complex 1 is monoclinic, space group P2(1/n), and the cell parameters are: alpha = 10.505 A, b = 23.628 A, c = 10. 676 A, alpha = 90, beta = 91.40 degrees and gamma = 90 degrees. The authors have studied the luminescence property of 1, Complex 1 has blue-purple luminescence in solutions of DMSO with emission bands at 369, 380 and 460sh nm; and has red luminescence in the solid state at room temperature with a broad emission band at 650-678 nm. These all can be attributed to the pi* --> pi transition based on the ligand. In the solid state, the emission frequencies for complex 1 are red-shifted about 280 nm compared with their emission maximum peaks in solutions of DMSO. This red-shift of emission energy from solution to solid is likely to be caused by the intermolecular pi--pi packing interaction in the solid state which effectively decreases the energy gap. The fluorescence decay curve of complex 1 indicated that the processes of decay consists of two components, whose corresponding lifetimes are tau1 = 1.36 micros and tau2 = 5.98 micros, corresponding factors are 50.21% and 49.79% in DMSO solutions, and tau1 = 1.42 micros, tau2 = 8.85 micros, corresponding factors are 51.15% and 48.85% in the solid state.

Abstract:The complex [Cu-2(mu -cis-oxpn)(phen)(NO3)(2)], where oxpn = N,N ' -bis(3-aminopropyl) oxamidato and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, has been synthesized and its crystal structure determined by X-ray methods. The structure consists of binuclear copper (II) molecules in which the Cu (II) atoms are bridged by oxamidato group in the cis conformation, the Cu-Cu distance being 5.205(10) Angstrom. The coordination geometry around Cu (II) atoms is square pyramidal; the apex is occupied by a more weakly bonded O atom from a nitrate group. Electron delocalization is observed in the bridging oxamide moiety. The co-planarity of bridge ligand and basal plane around Cu (II) atoms may benefit spin super-exchange between two Cu (II) atoms. IR spectra of the binuclear complex are discussed.

Abstract:The structure of the the title compound, [Cu(2)(C(7)H(3)ClO(3))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·2H(2)O, consists of a dimeric unit involving a planar Cu(2)O(2) group arranged around an inversion center. The coordination sphere of the Cu(II) atom can be described as an elongated distorted square pyramid where the basal plane is formed by the two N atoms of the 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecule and the two O atoms of the hydroxy-chloro-benzoate (hcbe) anion. The long apical Cu-O distance of 2.569 (2) Å involves the O atom of a symmetry-related hcbe anion, building up the dinuclear unit. Each dinuclear unit is connected through O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving two water mol-ecules, resulting in an R(4) (2)(8) graph-set motif and building up an infinite chain parallel to (10). C-H⋯O inter-actions further stabilize the chain.

Abstract:Four novel Cu(I) complexes, [Cu(o-PYO)(PPh3)(2)]BF4 (1), [Cu(o-PYO)(DPEphos)]BF4 (2), [Cu-2(o-PYO)(PPh3)(3)(CH3CN)](BF4)(2) (3) and [Cu-2(o-PYO)(DPEphos)2](BF4)(2) (4) (o-PYO = 2,5-bis(pyridy1)-1,3,4-oxadiazole, PPh3 = triphenylphosphine, DPEphos = bis(2-(diphenylphosphanyl)phenyl)ether), have been synthesized and characterized by H-1 NMR, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The central cuprous ions in all complexes are surrounded by N and P atoms to form a distorted tetrahedral geometry, although one of the cuprous ions in complex 3 is coordinated by a PPh3 and an acetonitrile molecule due to the steric hindrance and weak coordination ability from monodentate PPh3 ligand. The UV-vis absorption spectra in CH2Cl2 show the characteristic metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) absorption bands in the region of 360-480 nm. Four Cu(I) complexes exhibit yellow to orange-red phosphorescence with the emission maximum at 572, 577, 562 and 597 nm, respectively in the solid state.

Abstract:C-functionalized dioxotetraamine ligands L have been designed and synthesized through simple methods, and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, mass spectra and H-1 NMR. The ligand contains two independent chelating groups. At 25.0+/-0.1degreesC, I=0.1mol(.)dm(-3) NaNO3, pH titration has been performed to study the stability properties of L-5-R-5,10-phenanthroline-Cu(II) with proton, copper(H) and cobalt(II). The ternary complexes have been shown to possess interesting properties due to the involvement of three chelating groups, 5-substituted-1,10-phenanthroline, 8-hydroxyquinoline and dioxotetraamine. In addition, potentiometric titrations have been performed to study the protonation of L-5-R-1, 10-phenanthroline-Cu(II) (R=CH3,H,Cl,NO2) and their stability properties with copper(II) and cobalt(II). The results show that for Cu2+ and Co2+, 8-hydroxyquinoline is a strong chelating reagent than dioxytetraamine macrocycles. Using molecular mechanics (MM+) calculation, the stability of ternary mixed system on Co(II)-L-5-substituted-1, 10-phenanthroline-Cu(II) and Cu(II)-L-5-substituted-1,10-phenanthroline-Cu(II) have been studied and compared with the coordination ability for different coordination sites and for different metal ions (Co(II) and Cu(II)) at the same coordination site. The results obtained from calculation agree with the experimental results.

Abstract:A new asymmetrical Schiff base ligand, (E)-4-chloro-2-{[(2,6-dimethylphenyl)amino] methyl}phenol(HL), and its mononuclear Cu(II) complex have been synthesized. The molecular structures and spectroscopic properties of the ligand and its complex were experimentally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, FT-IR, NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques. The analysis confirmed that the Cu atom in complex is generally four-coordinated by one imino N and one phenolic O atoms of a Schiff-base ligand adopting a trans-configuration of N2O2 donor atoms around the metal ion, forming a tetrahedral geometry. Density functional calculation is being carried out on both HL and copper(II) complex to investigate changes in structural parameters, energies of the HOMO and LUMO. The results demonstrated that the HOMO and LUMO were effectively separated with the benzene ring of 2,6-dimethylbenzenamine as a donor unit and the benzene ring of 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde as an acceptor unit. The effective HOMO-LUMO separation helps to induce intramolecular charge transfer from the HOMO to the LUMO. The HOMO-LUMO energy gap become smaller when the Schiff base ligand coordinated with Cu(II) ion, most likely due to the interaction of the d-orbitals of copper(II) with the HOMO and/or LUMO of the ligand. These theoretical calculations supported the experimentally observed results.The biological assay revealed that both Schiff base and the complex have different antimicrobial activity. The complex has the MIC value of 0.0781 mmol·L-1 against Escherichia coli.

Abstract:The title complex [Cu(TFBA)(2,2'-bipy)H2O2)](TFBA) (HTFBA=2,3,4,5- tetrafluorobenzoic acid, 2,2'-bipy=2,2'-bipyridine) was hydrothermally synthesized by the reaction of cupric acetate monohydrate with HTFBA and 2,2'-bipy in the solvent mixture of methanol and water. It was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, TG and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The copper(II) ion is five-coordinated with two nitrogen atoms from one 2,2'-bipy, one oxygen atom from one TFBA and two water oxygen atoms, forming a distorted square-pyramidal configuration. A dimer structure was formed by strong O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds. Weak intermolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds and C-H center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interactions further link the dimer into one-dimesional chain. Furthermore, Density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the structures, stabilities, orbital energies, composition characteristics of some frontier molecular orbitals and Mulliken charge distributions of the [Cu(TFBA)(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)(2)](+) cation were performed by means of Gaussian 03W package and taking B3LYP/lanl2dz basis set. Abstract:A copper(II) complex {[Cu(H2btc) (H2O)3]2(H4btc)(C5H11N)2·3H2O}n (1) has been synthesized and characterized structurally (H4btc=1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid). Open channels were formed and can accommodate piperidine molecules. TGA data show that guest water and piperidine molecules are lost at 130 °C.

Abstract:Copper (II) complex of the ligand, thiophene-2-aldehyde semicarbazone was synthesized and characterized. Their structures were explored on the basis of CHN analysis, conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements, spectral studies (FT-infrared and ESI-MS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It has been observed from spectral and analytical studies, the copper complex have the composition of [CuL(CH3COO)2(H2O)] [where L is thiophene-2-aldehyde semicarbazone]. The electrospray mass spectrum of the ligand and complex exhibited ion at mass-to charge ratio (m/z) of 169.13 and 368.86 matching the calculated values for the molecular ion of the ligand and complex, respectively. One mole of the ligand behaves as bidentate chelating agents around the Cu(II) ion. From conductivity studies, we obtained that the copper complex of the ligand, thiophene-2-aldehyde semicarbazone had no ionic properties. All data confirmed a trigonal bipyramidal geometry of the complex. Antibacterial activity of the compounds against the microbe Enterobacter aerogenes and Bacillus cereus have been screened to reflect that the complex has higher antimicrobial activity than the free ligand.

Abstract:Three copper(II) complexes, [Cu(phen)2Cl](3,5-DNB) (3,5-HDNB) (1), [Cu(phen)(4-NB)2(H2O)] (2), and [Cu(2,2′-bipy)(4-NB)2(H2O)] (3), [phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, 2,2′-bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine, 3,5-DNB = 3,5-dinitrobenzoate anion, 3,5-HDNB = 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid, 4-NB = 4-nitrobenzoate], have been synthesized and characterized. The interactions between three complexes and HS-DNA/BSA were determined by UV and fluorescence spectra. The results suggest that these copper(II) complexes interact with HS-DNA in an intercalative way and quench the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA via a static mechanism. The fluorescence data also indicated the complexes exhibited good binding propensity to BSA and the binding site available on BSA for the complexes was only one. The antiproliferative activity of the three complexes against several tumor cell lines (MCF-7, HepG-2, A549, and HeLa) was tested by MTT method. Three complexes displayed cytotoxicity against four tumor cells, but complex 3 is less cytotoxic than complexes 1-2. Moreover, the apoptosis was measured by the Annexin-V/PI double staining methods and the results demonstrated that complex 1 and 2 could induce apoptosis in MCF-7 and HeLa cells, respectively.

Abstract:Three new ternary copper(II) complexes, [Cu2(phen)2(PDIMAla)(H2O)2](ClO4)2·CH3OH (1), [Cu2(dpq)2(PDIMAla)(H2O)2](ClO4)2·CH3OH (2) and [Cu2(dppq)2(PDIMAla)(H2O)2](ClO4)2·CH3OH (3) (phen=1,10-phenanthroline, dpq=dipyrido[3,2:2′,3′-f]quinoxaline, dppz=dipyrido[3,2-a:2′,3′-c]phenazine, H2PDIMAla=N,N′-(p-xylylene)di-alanine acid) have been synthesized and the complex 1 has been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, spectrometric titrations, ethidium bromide displacement experiments, CD (circular dichroism) spectral analysis and viscosity measurements. The results indicate that the three compounds, especially the complex 3, can strongly bind to calf-thymus DNA (CT–DNA). The intrinsic binding constants Kb of the ternary copper(II) complexes with CT–DNA are 0.38×105, 1.4×105 and 7.8×105 for 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Comparative cytotoxic activities of the copper(II) complexes are also determined by acid phosphatase assay. The results show that the ternary copper(II) complexes have significant cytotoxic activity against the human hepatic (HepG2), human promyelocytic leukemia (HL60) and human prostate (PC3) cell lines. Investigation of antioxidation property show that all the copper(II) complexes have strong scavenging effects for hydroxyl radicals.

Abstract:Schiff bases are an important class of organic compounds, which play an important role in medicinal and pharmaceutical applications. Metal complexes formed by the reactions of keto forms of Benzoic acid hydrazide (BAH) with Cu(II) and Fe(II) sulphate ions were prepared and characterized by X-ray Diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and electronic absorption spectra studies. The results showed that the hydrazides reacted with the metal salts in 1:2 molar ratio in all the complexes and acts as neutral bidentate ligands. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the metal complexes provides a detailed comparative account of the behavior of the metal complexes of hydrazide ligand metal complexes. The pattern of BAH complexes shows the main characteristics peak and broad shoulder. In view of the relative half value width (FWHM), it may be concluded that the BAH-Cu is partially crystalline and while the BAH-Fe shows an amorphous nature. The broad characteristic peak indicates the amorphous nature of the polymers. The solubility test on the ligands and its metal (II) complexes revealed their solubility in ethanol and dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO). The infrared spectra of the hydrazide showed that ?(C=O), the carbonyl stretching mode, the coupling between the in-plane bending ?(N-H) and ?(C-N) and the stretching frequency for the amino group ?(NH2) all experienced shifts to lower wave numbers in the complexes suggesting the coordination of the moieties to the metal ions. The electronic absorption spectra of Cu(II) complexes showed absorption band located at 36,496 cm-1 showing a tetrahedral geometry while Fe(II) BAH and BAH ligand show absorption band at a shoulder around 16051 cm-1 with 4A2 ? 4T1 (P) respectively consistent with a four coordinate tetrahedral geometry.
