Abstract:PurposeStrategic human resource management (SHRM) is seen as crucial for innovation and entrepreneurship in China. An empirical research was carried out to investigate main dimensions of the model of human resources management (HRM), practices and their effects on organisational performance in relation to innovation and entrepreneurship.Design/methodology/approachThe research has two parts. The first part is a field survey on human resource management practices and its main dimensions. The study was conducted in the Chinese local companies and joint ventures across different partnerships. The second part is an in‐depth case‐set analysis of Chinese entrepreneurship models from a strategic HRM perspective.FindingsThe results showed that both functional and strategic dimensions of HRM could be identified which had differential effects upon organisational performance and that the most successful local entrepreneurial firms were among the collective‐based and globally‐oriented ones.Originality/valueThis study demonstrated that the fit between strategic HRM practices, innovation strategy and entrepreneurship model was significantly contributed to entrepreneurial performance. A regional comparative model of SHRM and entrepreneurship was proposed for sustainable business developments and organisational change.

Abstract:Strategic human resource management (SHRM) holds that the fitness of human resource manage- ment system (HRMS)and Competitive strategy will improve firm performance.The paper reviewed the research on HRMS by conceptual typologies and empirical taxonomies,proposed several hypotheses on the relationship among HRMS,Competitive Strategy and firm performance,and tested the hypotheses based on the data of a survey in 133 sample firms in China.We found the firms with internal HRMS had relatively higher performance than those with Market Type HRMS.The results partly proved that the moderating effect of con- textual variables (industry technologic transformation and labor market competition) on the relationship of HRMS and firm performance and did not prove the moderating effect of firm scale on the relationship.The effect of complete strategy on HRM strategy is unobvious.The hypothesis that firms with ideal matches between competitive strategy and HRMS will perform better than firms with mismatches was not supported.In the end, this paper discussed the results,limitations of this research and implications for future research.

Abstract:The effectiveness of enterprise human resource management is an important topic of human resource management in academic studies, and it is the key for enterprises to achieve long-term sustainable development. Up to now, fruitful research achievements have been achieved, but there is still a lack of a systematic literature review. Based on 218 research results collected in the CNKI and SSCI databases of the WOS from 1975 to 2021, this paper systematically reviews the enterprise human resource management effectiveness from the aspects of evolution, topic overview, and content sorting by using bibliometrics with Citespace software and a systematic literature review. This paper expounds the concept of enterprise human resource management effectiveness, analyzes the existing research results, and finds out where the research gap is. Based on this, this paper puts forward the prospect of future research topics from the aspects of measurement methods, influencing factors, and results, which not only helps to systematically reveal the overview of the existing research in the field of enterprise human resource management effectiveness, but also provides direction for further research.

Abstract:Each enterprise wants to gain both perfect human resource management effectiveness and high fi- nancial performance.Unfortunately,most of compa- nies are worry about either unsatisfied human re- source management outcomes or low financial results. Based on the sample of 464 manufacturing enterprises in Shanghai,Jiangsu and Guangdong in China,after hierarchical multiple regressions between human re- source management practices(HRMPs)and firm per- formance,this empirical research explores the Best HRMPs for each performance.As a result,human resource management effectiveness and financial per- formance are not in line.Therefore,enterprises can get satisfied human resource management outcomes and perfect financial performance in the same time by optimizing the composition of HRMPs and improving existing human resource management system.

Abstract:Purpose The German author set out to review existing studies of human resource management (HRM) in the USA, Europe, and China. His goal was to assess whether Chinese organizations had successfully imitated the HR strategies of organizations in Europe. Design/methodology/approach The author first reviewed studies of organizations in the US, where HRM strategies originated. He then turned to studies of European organizations. Only then did he turn to China and assess the many studies of HRM's effect on organizations there. Findings A clear process of copying western HR approaches was evident in China. The research confirmed that HRM could have a similarly positive effect in China as in the USA and Europe. But the results should be treated with caution, partly because the studies didn’t take into consideration environmental factors, such as industrial relations, unions, market conditions, and national culture. Originality/value The value was in demonstrating the enormous Chinese capacity to learn from Western HR strategies and benefit from them. It was also apparent that the differences in approaches were becoming narrower and narrower.

Abstract:With the development of strategic management, human resources management has been raised to strategic position. There were different definitions towards strategic human resources management (SHRM). However, all of the definitions come to the same key point that HR practices are quite important to organization performance. Many scholars studied respectively on the effect of HRM on organization performance according to different theories, such as resource-based theory, human capital theory, behavior theory, general system theory, transaction and agent theory. This paper indicates that the main difference of these studies lies in the different impact system of HRM practices on organization performance and implies the future research directions.

Abstract:PurposeHuman resource management (HRM) is seen as crucial for innovation and firm performance in China. This paper aims to carry out an empirical research to investigate the effects of main dimensions of HRM on technological innovation as well as organizational performance.Design/methodology/approachThe research uses a sample of 194 high‐tech firms surveyed in eight provinces in China.FindingsThis research finds that employee training, immaterial motivation and process control have positive effects on technological innovation, while material motivation and outcome control have a negative influence on technological innovation. It is also found that technological innovation is positively related with performance.Research limitations/implicationsThis study does not consider the different influence of every HRM dimension affecting different innovation types. This should be a future research topic.Practical implicationsThis study provides useful managerial implication for managers. First, employee training is needed to develop employees' knowledge. Second, material incentive is needed but not main motivation in Chinese high‐tech firms. Third, process control should be emphasized more than outcome control in Chinese high‐tech firms.Originality/valueThis study demonstrated that the HRM significantly contributed to technological innovation and firm performance. This study demonstrates that Chinese high‐tech firms' HRM has an important influence on technological innovation, and lead to firm's superior performance.

Abstract:Based on questionnaire survey of human resources department administrative persons and department managers of 111 firms from Mainland China,This paper analyses the relationship among the human capital,human resources management practices and firm performance under the dynamic environment of economic transition and economic globalization.We use four indicators to measure firms' human capital,namely the quality and quantity of human capital,fitness of human capital,complementarities of human capital and specificity of human capital,and make an empirical test on the hypothesis through hierarchical regression and cross-level analysis.The result shows that the impact of human resource management practices on firm performance partly performs through the intermediary role of human capital,and dynamic environment weakens the direct effect of resources management practices on human capital,thus weakening the intermediary role of human capital,that is,compared with the stable environment,dynamic environment plays regulating role between human resource management practices and human capital.

Abstract:Strategic human resource management (SHRM) has been an important strand of research in the HRM field for over three decades, and has attracted heated debates in recent years. One main critique of the state of SHRM research is its increasing detachment from HRM practice, in the pursuit of more theoretical rigor and methodological sophistication. Our review article has two main tasks. First, we review SHRM research published in two leading HRM journals-Human Resource ManagementandHuman Resource Management Journal-in the light of the criticisms on SHRM research and use this as a backdrop of our second task. Second, we critically examine SHRM research conducted in the Chinese context by drawing on a systematic review on extant literature. In doing so, we draw on a wider range of HRM journals such asHuman Resource Management Review,The International Journal of Human Resource Management, and so forth. We find that while the trend of psychologization in SHRM research is gathering pace, the range of theoretical perspectives mobilized to inform the studies is actually expanding. We call for SHRM research to be more contextualized and more practical phenomenon-driven SHRM research. We indicate several avenues for future research, using China as an example.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, after analyzing the VAR model, we design the Gram causality test between human resource management and enterprise performance and establish a structural equation combining multiple regression and factor analysis to explore the interrelationship between the two, in addition to evaluating enterprise performance based on mutation theory. In order to study the relationship between human resource management and enterprise performance, assumptions are made about the relationship between the two, a conceptual model of the role path relationship between human resource management and enterprise performance is established, and the proposed assumptions are empirically analyzed based on the existing literature and actual data. The results show that the coefficient of HR practices is 10.048343, which is significant at the 0.0031 level, and the goodness of fit is 0.403881, and HR practices do have a relatively significant impact on business performance, and the marginal impact is 10.048343, which indicates that HR practices significantly amplify business performance. This study confirms that human resource management is positively correlated with firm performance and that firms can optimize their human resource management strategies, which in turn will enhance their performance and provide impetus for their progress and development.

Abstract:Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to attempt to investigate the relationship between human resource management (HRM) competency and firm performance. Drawn upon the resource-based view and alignment theory, HRM competency is expected to be related to the adoption of high performance work systems (HPWS) and the achievement of external fit in HRM, which in turn contribute to firm performance.Design/methodology/approach– The data for this study were collected via a survey of in 157 Chinese enterprises located in the high technology development zone of three large cities. Two different respondents from each firm provided information about organizational characteristics, HRM policy and practices, and firm performance. Multiple regressions were used to test the hypotheses.Findings– Results indicate that HRM competency has a significant and positive effect on firm performance. Such an effect is found to be mediated by the achievement of external fit, but not the adoption of HPWS.Research limitations/implications– Limitations of the study include cross-sectional data, perceptual measure of firm performance, omission of external variables, and restricted sample. This study highlights the importance of HRM competency in strategic HRM, and provides evidence about how this construct is linked to firm performance.Originality/value– This is the first study that explores the effect of HRM competency on the adoption of HPWS and the achievement of external fit. It further reveals that the achievement of external fit mediates the relationship between HRM competency and firm performance, and hence contributes to the HRM literature.

Abstract:In recent years, the importance of human resource management in enterprises has been gradually highlighted, and human resource management performance appraisal, as one of the key indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of human resource management in enterprises, it has attracted much attention. By comprehensively analyzing the existing research results, this dissertation discusses the relevant problems in enterprise human resource management performance appraisal, including the unclearness of goal setting, the difficulty of selecting appraisal indexes, the incompleteness of assessment methods, and the lack of employee participation. It further analyzes the impact of these problems on the results of enterprise performance appraisal and proposes corresponding improvement measures, it aims to provide reference for enterprises to enhance the effectiveness of human resource management performance appraisal.
