The progress of cybergeography research outside China

Abstract:The researching focus of Cybergeography is on the spatial characters of cyberspace that consists of computer communication networks (especially the Internet, Web, and other territory beyond the computer screen). It also researches a serial geographical phenomenon ranging from physical infrastructure, information traffic and census statistics of new cyberspace community to the cognizance and visualization researching. Another researching focus is on how information and space relate to the human-been behavior, and redefining some basic conception about the distance, scale and region in geography. At the same time, based on the conceptual frame, methodology and field practicing, it developed a new frontier in geography. Mapping the cyberspace incorporates some results and theory in the field of geography, cartography, sociology, culturology, computer communication, information visualization, literature theory and cognazation psychology, it provides us a tool to understand the outlook of cyberspace and it's interaction with society. At the end of the paper, some ongoing researching projects about cybergeography are introduced.
