Abstract:It presents the gap of pharmaceutical RD between the world's leading companies and Chinese companies. It argues that Chinese pharmaceutical companies can not be compared with the leading companies in resources investment. The successful experience of some Japan companies and west companies showed that good innovation management could offset this gap. As a result,Chinese pharmaceutical companies can achieve competitive advantage,by strengthening innovation management.

Abstract:Research & Development (R&D) plays an increasingly important role in China's pharmaceutical industry. To gain a competitive edge in the global pharmaceutical market, the current national strategy of China forcefully pushes for independent drug innovations. This article investigates the historical, legal, and institutional contexts in which China's drug R&D has evolved. Based on an analysis of the drug R&D evolution and national policies in China, it predicts the future trend of China's policies relevant to drug innovations. This paper helps to understand the impact of national policies on drug R&D in China, which can be used to inform decision-making on investments in China's pharmaceutical market or conducting technology trade and international cooperation with Chinese partners.

Abstract:The 2017 China (Lianyungang) International Medical Technology Conference was held in Lianyungang,Jiangsu Province during November 15-17,2017.During this conference,the Division for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Products Pharmacology of Chinese Pharmacological Society (CNPHARS) and Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.jointly held the Forum on R&D and Interna-tionalization of New Drugs and Health Products of Traditional Chinese Medicine.The forum was co-chaired by Professor ZHANG Yong-xiang, President of CNPHARS, Chair of Division for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Products Pharmacology of CNPHARS,and Chair of the Natural Product Section of Inter-national Union of Basic&Clinical Pharmacology(IUPHAR), Professor DU Guan-hua,former President of CNPHARS and Vice-Chair of Division for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Products Pharmacology of CNPHARS,and Dr.XIAO Wei,Chairman of the Board of Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. And Vice-Chair of Division for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Products Pharmacology of CNPHARS. Representatives discussed the R&D and internationalization of new drugs and health products of traditional Chinese medicine.The summary of views and advice of some experts was published here for the purpose of promoting domestic and overseas academic exchange, and playing an active role in improving the level of R&D and internationalization of new drugs and health products of traditional Chinese medicine in China.

Abstract:With the slowing down of the global new drug RD rate,and the increasing cost and the lower returns,China is attracting more interesting because of a growing number of multinational pharmaceutical companies with its cost and resource advantages.China is taking an important and indispensable part in the global new drug RD.However,the backward knowledge,and the lacking of professional drug RD talents have become the bottle neck of Chinese drug innovation capacity as a long period of generic drug history in China.To establish new drug RD training platforms to deliver the advanced knowledge and to train top level professionals who understand the whole chain of the new drug RD is the critical way for China to improve its drug innovation capacity,and become a strong innovative country in drug RD.

Abstract:China is a big country of imitation, nearly ninety-seven of the drugs are made of imitation, but the quality of imitation drugs is uneven, causing widespread concern in China. The state, in order to regulate the safety of generic drugs, has steadily promoted the work since the publication of the opinions of the general office of the state Council on the quality and efficacy of generic drugs. But the products of enterprises sometimes as many as a dozen or more, this article from the perspective of pharmaceutical economics to help enterprises scientifically in many products to determine the priority of quality and efficacy consistency evaluation of products, save their capital costs, time costs, so that enterprises better deal with consistency evaluation policy, for the product to obtain a better development prospect.

Abstract:The proportion of R&D investment to total sales in pharmaceutical industry is the highest compared with other industries. This article summarizes seven different research models and analyzes current global trends for new drug discovery and development of multinational pharmaceutical companies. These seven research models can be categorized as follows: in-house R&D, licensing in and out,investment and acquisitions,joint research,project outsourcing,multi-partner benefit and risk sharing,and VC + IP + CRO( VIC) model. This article analyzes the models based on the real cases,and summarizes the development trend of multinational pharmaceutical companies as follows: streamlining the R&D department,establishing a  small and spiritual drug development execution unit, seeking outside innovation support via increasing R&D outsourcing and so on. This article also analyzes the effects of globalization on Chinese pharmaceutical industry and proposes the strategy to face the upcoming challenges.

Abstract:The global bio-pharmaceutical industry's recovery in 2003 and 2004 has brought prospects as well as challenges to Chinese bio-pharmaceutical enterprises.Through the analysis of foreign and domestic bio-pharmaceutical enterprises,it is found that our enterprises are lagging behind in respect of original innovation,financing,standardization,etc.Consequently,those foreign pharmaceutical enterprises will exert intense pressure on the domestic bio-pharmaceutical industry such as RD,patent apply,production and distribution,etc.This paper proposes that domestic bio-pharmaceutical enterprises should clarify development strategy,increase RD investment in both original and imitating innovation;broaden financing channels thus effectively combining financial capital with biotechnics;implement standardization and quality management;seek strategic alliances in an effort to utilize each other's talents, exploit each other's specializations,lower the market risk and create more value.

Abstract:The imitation is the main means to produce new drugs in China at present. Upgrading doorsill of new drug and changing of new drug protection make it very difficult to develop the new drug in China. It's necessary to study on mode for new drug independent innovation.A conceptual model for new drug independent innovation which has the Chinese characters is presented, based on empirical research undertaken with a leading Anti-tumor new drug H101 producing (Sunway Biotech Co., Ltd) and based on a review of some key literature in this area. The model acts as a toolkit aiding research and development of new drugs.In the result, some suggestions are given. A public medicine information platform should be established. Venture capital should be encouraged. Systematic way should be made to assure the benign interaction relations between short-term benefit and the long-term investment. Preferential talented person policy should be measured.

Abstract:Under the background of innovation-driven development and advanced biopharmaceutical innovative construction,this paper selects the indicators from three aspects:capital investment,talent resources and innovation output,and a comparative evaluation of the innovation drug R&D ability of China and the developed countries namely United States,Japan and Europe,as the basis to reveal the policy causes of the innovation ability discrepancies in China.The empirical results show that the total amount of funds invested in R&D of innovative drugs is increasing and the number of R&D personnel has become the scale.However,the investment intensity is still far from that of the developed countries,and the capital investment structure is also deficient of rationality.This is inseparable from the absence of preferential taxation policies,lack of high-level personnel training,environmental defects in production and research,and narrow coverage of health insurance policies.
