Abstract:To achieve the effective utilization of alkali weight-reduction wastewater residue,the methyl esterification reaction conditions and the reaction kinetics were systematically investigated.The kinetics of methyl esterification reaction of alkali weight reduction wastewater residue was studied by firstly considering the effect of pretreatment such as washing and drying on the composition on the wastewater residue and followed by changing the alcohol-to-acid ratio,initial moisture content and reaction temperature.The results showed that the pretreatment could on one hand effectively remove the inorganic salt impurities in the residue to improve the purity of terephthalic acid (TA),but on the other hand it could significantly reduce the yield of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and the conversion of terephthalic acid (TA) methylation reaction.Two steps TA methyl esterification reactions were both temperature sensitive.The typical reversible equilibrium reaction model was used to fit the experimental data to obtain the kinetic model parameters,and on this basis,the kinetic model was tested.The results showed that the established kinetic model was reliable and can well predict the concentration of each component.The study can provide the basis for further scale-up and design of methyl esterification process for alkali weight reduction wastewater residue.
Synthesis of 1,1-Cyclohexanediacetic Acid Catalyzed by Dilute Sulfuric Acid in High-Temperature Liquid Water

Abstract:Serious pollution and corrosion problems exist in the industrialized production of 1,1-cyclohexanediacetic acid.In this paper,a new method concerning hydrolysis of 1,1-cyclohexanediacetimide,α,α'-dicyano-compd with ammonia catalyzed by dilute sulfuric acid in high-temperature liquid water(HTLW) was proposed.The influence of initial concentration(0.01-0.1 g/mL),reaction temperature(160-280 ℃) and sulfuric-acid concentration(0%-15%) on the yield of 1,1-cyclohexanediacetic acid was systematically investigated.The results show that 88.31% yield of 1,1-cyclohexanediacetic acid could be reached at the reaction temperature of 220 ℃,sulfuric-acid concentration of 15% and initial mass concentration of 0.05 g/mL,which is higher than industrial process catalyzed with concentrated sulfuric acid.Also,the new process with dilute sulfuric-acid is much greener.

Abstract:Synthetic hydrocarbon fuel, derived from renewable energy and captured carbon dioxide from flue gas and/or ambient air, can close its carbon cycle and is an important approach to sustainable energy. In this study, the thermodynamic performance of a co-electrolysis process for producing hydrogen and carbon monoxide from water and captured CO2 is investigated, based on current carbon capture and high-temperature electrolysis technologies. The exergy analysis is useful because it can reveal the energy losses due to irreversibilities and indicate possibilities for improvement of a process. Fuel synthesis systems integrated with or separated from different carbon capture technologies were evaluated and the analysis results have indicated that compared to the energy/exergy consumed by electrolysis, the energy/exergy penalty from CO2 capture is insignificant. The thermodynamic efficiency of fuel synthesis could be increased by developing fuel generation technologies with lower electricity requirements, especially when using solar and nuclear energy.

Complex extraction and stripping of H acid wastewater

Abstract:H acid is an important dye intermediate for the synthesis of direct, reactive and azo dyes. In this study, the method of complex extraction and stripping has been introduced for the treatment of high concentrated H acid wastewater. The extractant and diluent selected in the experiment are trialkylamine (N7301) and kerosene, respectively. And the dependencies of the extraction efficiency on the extractant concentration, the initial pH value, the volume ratio of water to oil (W/O), and the temperature are investigated. Under the optimum condition that kerosene/N7301 of 3:1, pH of 1.0, W/O of 2:1, and temperature of 45°C, through three-stage extraction, the CODcr value of H acid wastewater decreases from 13828.48 mg/l to 199.21 mg/l, and the overall CODcr removal rate can reach 98.56%. Finally, the extractant can be regenerated by stripping process with 10% NaOH, and the stripping rate can arrive at 100%. Compared with other methods, complex extraction and stripping is considered as a much more efficient and feasible one not only for that the extractant regenerated can reduce the operation cost but also for that the H acid extracted can be reused in the production process without degradation, which meets the requirement of zerodischarge and no sludge.

Abstract:In order to realize utilization of steel hydrochloric pickling waste liquor and recovery of hydrochloric acid and iron salts simultaneously,the combined technical process of salt-added distillation for recovery of hydrochloric acid and poly-ferric coagulant preparation with distillation residue liquor was proposed. The pickling waste liquor containing 9. 28% HCl was studied to investigate effects of the kinds of salt,dosage of salts and distillate volume on the regeneration of hydrochloric acid and coagulation performance of poly-ferric coagulant solution. The results show that chloride added can significantly alter the relative volatility of HCl-H2 O,with the optimal conditions of CaCl2 dosage of 1mol /L and distillate volume ratio of 30%. Under these conditions,the HCl mass fraction of the recycled acid was 22. 3% and application test of poly-ferric coagulant prepared from distillation residue presented good performances on color removal of dyeing wastewater. This process can realize the resources utilization of residual acid and iron in the pickling waste liquor,and reach the zero-discharge of pickling waste liquor.

Abstract:Taking a new large-scale project for high purity dimeric acid production as an example,the material,product,process and equipment of the high-vacuum three-step molecular distillation technology were analyzed.With the independently-developed high vacuum three-step molecular distillation technology and the improvement of equipment and control conditions,the purity of dimeric acid extracted from the heels of cottonseed oil can come up to 98%.Comparing with the former process,the consumption of water,steam and energy is dropped.Several suggestions and measures for cleaner production of high purity dimeric acid production are put forward.

Abstract:Human activities in daily life and industrial production generate a significant volume of substandard water with high salt content, organic compounds, and other pollutants, often exhibiting a neutral pH. Electrochemical oxidation is a widely applied technique for the purification of water sources. By integrating electrochemical oxidation reactions with electrolytic hydrogen evolution reactions, the potential arises to enhance energy utilization efficiency and reduce cost implications. This study describes the advantages and challenges of neutral aqueous chlorine solutions as electrolytes for hydrogen production from electrolyzed water. The cathodic and possibly anodic reactions in the electrolysis of neutral chlorinated electrolytes are also investigated. Finally, we present the progress of research on cathode and anode catalysts used in electrolyzing neutral chlorine-containing electrolytes. The aim is to inspire the research of industrialized low-cost and high-yield integrated hydrogen production systems.

Abstract:Diffusion dialysis (DD) and conventional electrodialysis (CED) were integrated to recover hydrochloric acid from simulated chemosynthesis aluminum foil wastewater. Effects of dialysate flow rate, DD pre-running duration (t1), CED current were investigated. Results showed that the integration of DD and CED was a feasible and effective approach to recover the hydrochloric acid. The dialysate flow rate and CED current are adjustable to achieve a compatibility and operational uniformity between DD and CED. When the dialysate flow rate was 0.60L/(hm2), t1 was 10min, and CED current was 2A, the average acid recovery ratio and average aluminum leakage ratio were 74.9% and 12.2% respectively, while the energy consumption was only 0.41kwh. The results confirm that such integration process is not only a cost-effective process compared with an individual DD process, but also an environment friendly process with little water consumption. Especially, due to the concentrating by CED, the recovered acid can be reused in the productive cycle directly.

Abstract:Direct saline (seawater) electrolysis is a well-recognized system to generate active chlorine species for the chloride-mediated electrosynthesis, environmental remediation and sterilization over the past few decades. However, the large energy consumption originated from the high cell voltage of traditional direct saline electrolysis system, greatly restricts its practical application. Here, we report an acid-saline hybrid electrolysis system for energy-saving co-electrosynthesis of active chlorine and H2. We demonstrate that this system just requires a low cell voltage of 1.59 V to attain 10 mA cm-2 with a large energy consumption decrease of 27.7% compared to direct saline electrolysis system (2.20 V). We further demonstrate that such acid-saline hybrid electrolysis system can be extended to realize energy-saving and sustainable seawater electrolysis. The acidified seawater in this system can absolutely avoid the formation of Ca/Mg-based sediments that always form in the seawater electrolysis system. We further prove that this system in the half-flow mode can realize real-time preparation of active chlorine for rapid sterilization.

Abstract:BACKGROUND The direct epoxidation of allyl chloride is a clean and efficient synthesis method for producing Epichlorohydrin (ECH), which is a crucial organic intermediate widely used in the fields of renewable energy and aerospace. However, the presence of multiple azeotropes in the synthesized product using this method complicates the separation process and results in high energy consumption. To efficiently separate high‐purity ECH, this paper investigates and analyzes three separation schemes based on the phase‐equilibrium analysis, including hybrid extractive distillation (HED), pressure swing distillation (PSD), and three‐column batch distillation (TCBD). RESULTS The operating parameters of the three separation processes are optimized by the sequential iterative optimization method that the minimum total annual cost (TAC) can reach 493 491 $/y. The thermal integration method is used for process energy‐saving optimization, and the TAC can be further reduced by 6.9%. In addition, a comprehensive evaluation based on economic, energy, environmental, and exergy analysis is conducted, and reveals that TCBD process with thermal integration is optimal. A control structure is designed for the TCBD process to enhance its robustness that the purity of ECH remains above 99.9 mol% under ±10% disturbances in feed flowrate and composition. CONCLUSIONS Compared with HED and PSD processes, the TCBD process has better economic and environmental benefits, and its control structure can effectively resist disturbances. It is reasonable to believe that the TCBD process can be an excellent solution for the industrial production of ECH. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Traditional overall water splitting has been regarded as a potential pathway for H 2 production, but the intrinsic slow kinetics of the anodic oxygen evolution reaction severely hampers the efficiency of H 2 production. Given the challenges in traditional water electrolysis, coupling the kinetically favorable anodic electrooxidation reactions of easily oxidizable substances with the hydrogen evolution reaction in a hybrid water electrolysis (HWE) configuration not only solves the pollutant emission and biomass recycling problems but also maximizes the return on energy profiteering. Various advanced compounds have been engineered through compositional regulation, structural optimization, surface nano-building, and electronic structure modification, yet some issues like tedious preparation and unsatisfactory durability still exist. Considering the gap between research and practical deployment, this review amply addresses the state-of-the-art achievements of synergistic electrocatalysis systems for the co-production of high-purity H 2 and valuable products with a low energy consumption and high Faradaic efficiency. An overview of HWE system is presented first accompanied by a discussion on the design and engineering of high reactive/selective/stable electrodes/electrocatalysts for anodic oxidation of organic/biomass substrates. Importantly, the in-depth understanding of possible reaction mechanisms from both experimental and theoretical perspectives is elucidated to promote the efficiency of synergistic electrocatalysis. Subsequently, the recent research breakthroughs in the field of HWE technology are emphatically reviewed, providing a new room for low-voltage H 2 generation from waste products and renewable feedstock. Some mechanism explorations, feasibility analyses, and correlation comparisons are highlighted. Finally, we propose the prospects on existing challenges with some opportunities for future research directions to push forward the progress in synergistic electrocatalysis configurations. Graphical Hybrid water electrolysis technology can generate green H 2 at the cathode and value-added chemicals at the anode simultaneously through energy-saving pathway. Thermodynamically more favorable oxidation reactions of organic/biomass substance molecules with a remarkable selectivity greatly offer certain energy-saving advantages. A Novel Method for Efficient Electrochemical Treatment of Actual Dyeing Wastewater With Energy Saving

Abstract:Abstract Electro-oxidation is a promising technology for wastewater treatment with bio-refractory organic and nitrogen pollutants; however, the high energy-demanding hinders its wide application. In this study, a novel method by regulating the significant parameter during electro-oxidation process timely for actual dyeing wastewater treatment with energy saving was studied. Operating factors (i.e., flow rate, initial pH value, electrode distance, and current density) were investigated for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and ammonia removal, and results indicated that current density was the key factor which obviously influenced the electrochemical performance. Indirect oxidation by active chlorine was then confirmed as the main reaction pathway for pollutants oxidation, and the relationship between the current density and the generation of active chlorine was established, suggesting that a large part of the generated active chlorine was not utilized effectively. Subsequently, a novel method by variation of current density timely based on the reaction mechanism was proposed; results indicated that, with similar pollutant removal efficiency, energy consumption could be reduced from 31.6 kWh/m 3 to 20.5 kWh/m 3 . Additionally, the novel system was further optimized by Box-Behnken design: COD and ammonia removal efficiencies could reach 71.8% and 100% respectively, and energy-demanding could be reduced by 45.6%.

Abstract:Rotary desiccant dehumidihcation cooling system producing both dry and chilled water is a novel rotary desiccant dehumidihcation cooling system,which can produce dry air and chilled water on summer based on adsorption dehumidihcation and regenerative evaporation cooling and break the obstacle of limited temperate reduction encountered by conventional desiccant cooling system.In this paper,a life cycle analysis method is used to investigate the energy and money cost and CO_2 release of the novel cooling system,and a contrast is made with the traditional refrigerant compression cooling system.
Cleaner production of citric acid by recycling its extraction wastewater treated with anaerobic digestion and electrodialysis in an integrated citric acid-methane production process

Abstract:To solve the pollution problem of extraction wastewater in citric acid production, an integrated citric acid-methane production process was proposed. Extraction wastewater was treated through anaerobic digestion and the anaerobic digestion effluent (ADE) was recycled for the next batch of citric acid fermentation, thus eliminating wastewater discharge and reducing water consumption. Excessive Na(+) contained in ADE could significantly inhibit citric acid fermentation in recycling and was removed by electrodialysis in this paper. Electrodialysis performance was improved after pretreatment of ADE with air stripping and activated carbon adsorption to remove precipitable metal ions and pigments. Moreover, the concentrate water was recycled and mixed with feed to improve the water recovery rate above 95% in electrodialysis treatment, while the dilute water was collected for citric acid fermentation. The removal rate of Na(+) in ADE was above 95% and the citric acid production was even higher than that with tap water.
