Abstract:Micro-PIV system can be used in the measurement of micro-scale flows and micro flows. The flow velocity and particle information will be obtained via this system. This paper developed a Micro-PIV system and its process software. The hardware part is composed of microscope with 1000x magnification and high-speed camera with 10000 frame/s. IMPACT software developed by ourselves is an Object Oriented program, which includes some advanced processing algorithms for the PIV technique. This paper measured motion of particle of 1μm diameter and validated the algorithms used in the software. It can be seen that Micro-PIV system developed in the paper can efficiently acquire the image of moving particles and process them, it can be used to the measurement of micro flow completely.
On the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition Technique for PIV Post-Processing

Abstract:A new technique for data post-processing of particle image velocimetry(PIV) based on proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) is introduced in this paper.This technique changes the situation of current data post-processing that separately achieves the identification of spurious vector in velocity field and its correction.Through iterative method,the unification of identification of dead pixels in velocity field and its repairment algorithm is effectively achieved.A reference velocity filed is reconstructed from the lower order mode of POD for identification of spurious vectors.Based on the reference velocity field,the identification and repairment of dead pixels are achieved in the whole field.Through introducing Gaussian distribution of random error for velocity field data of smooth PIV,a test measurement verifies the superiority of the proposed POD method.Results show that for spurious vector identification,the new method presents better performance than that of normalized median test,including the identification of spurious vector in a large area;while for interpolation algorithm of spurious vector repairement,it presents higher calculation efficiency than that of traditional Gappy POD and higher accuracy than that of common vector field interpolation methods.Especially,this method can provide good prediction for original flow field in a large connected and area,where the data are missing.

Abstract:Traditional DPIV (Digital Particle Image Velocimetry) methods are mostly based on area-correlation (Willert, C. E., 1991). Though proven to be very time-consuming and very much error prone, they are widely adopted because of they are conceptually simple and easily implemented, and also because there are few alternatives. This paper proposes a non-correlation, conceptually new, fast and efficient approach for DPIV, which takes the nature of flow into consideration. An Incompressible Affined Flow Model (IAFM) is introduced to describe a flow that incorporates rational restraints into the computation. This IAFM, combined with a modified optical flow method-named Total Optical Flow Computation (TOFC), provides a linear system solution to DPIV. Experimental results on real images showed our method to be a very promising approach for DPIV.

Abstract:We use Delphi7.0 to develop the windows visual software for gravity and magnetic potential field continuation from undulate terrain or line to plane surface or line.For mapping module of the software,Surfer 8.0 and Grapher3.0 are called to draw contour maps for 3D grid data and profile maps for 2D data by using ActiveX technology.This method can help the users observe the characteristic of the potential field quickly and conveniently and make the data processing and interpretation simpler and easier.

Abstract:Since the popularity of digital particle image velocimetry technique (DPIV), many PIV image processing algorithms have been proposed. Amongst them, fast Fourier transform (FFT) Cross Correlation, Discrete Window Offset Cross Correlation, Iterative Multigrid Cross Correlation, Iterative Image Deformation Cross Correlation and cross correlation based particle tracking methods are widely used algorithms and have been extensively studied by researchers. All of these algorithms have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of computational load and measurement accuracy. To choose a suitable algorithm, researchers not only need to understand the complex principles of these algorithms, but also need to find out their applicable flow conditions. This could greatly increase work load for PIV users who focus more on flow structure itself instead of PIV algorithms. It is therefore necessary to develop a method which can choose PIV algorithms wisely according to the input PIV images. This paper firstly reviews the development of PIV algorithm with mainly focus on analysing advantages and disadvantages of six widely used algorithms. By using both synthetic and real PIV images, comparative studies are then carried out among these algorithms. The tests give a rate for the performance of the algorithms and provide a parameter to automatically separate pattern match and particle tracking algorithms. Based on qualitative and quantitative analysis, an automated PIV image processing method—SmartPIV is proposed and tested by both synthetic and real PIV images. For all the three test cases, the SmartPIV successfully picks the most suitable algorithm and gives very promising results.
Design and Implementation of A DHV Image Processing System

Abstract:A quota well-logging method was presented in this paper for DHV services in bailing well.Based on this method,a software system including video coding and decoding,image processing,parameter measurement,report generating and database management was designed and implemented.The main function includes: identify usable information of characters in the image by projection;calculate apparent oil-rate,apparent gas-rate in appointed depths and generate reports by auto-threshold;calculate parameters such as circumference,area of dropping object with arbitrary shapes in the well by using optical image principle and MFC functions;identify and count bore holes by using Laplacian of Gaussian method of edge detection for pretreated images.Twenty well data have been processed with DHV image processing system,results of which are satisfactory.The DHV image processing system is modular design,flexibly and automatically selects different image processing methods according to the video image quality,and has the ability to provide downhole casings and production profile data.

Abstract:While speed to develop software satisfied requirement of client is a success factor for software projects, the quality is fundamental for both customer and the development teams. The software process, and the requirement acquisition, the business domain analysis and confirmation should be well planned, organized and performed in order to achieve the high quality. In Zhejiang harbor management data platform project, a complex Internet based information integration and management project, eXtreme Programming techniques are utilized. The planning games are reinforced by continuous process monitoring and risk analysis. A product contactor is assigned to communicate with multiple clients to get a unified list of features. This paper describes our development process with the extension to eXtreme Programming (XP). The whole quality of the software system delivered is improved significantly in less time than the original plan.

Abstract:Three CCD cameras are used to record the images for a three-dimensional jet flow. Based on the images, an algorithm for three-dimensional PIV is developed, which includes the calibration of camera system, the reconstruction of particles coordinates, the stereo particles matching and the determination and deletion of spurious velocity vectors, etc. In this method, the equations relating the particle positions in image and research space are constructed, and a method for stereo particle matching is developed. The standard three-dimensional image data that are produced by Visualization Society of Japan is compared with this method. The results show that this method has the merits of high accuracy and strong reliability.

Abstract:Ophthalmic medical images, such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) images and color photo of fundus, provide valuable information for clinical diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic diseases. In this paper, we introduce a software system specially oriented to ophthalmic images processing, analysis, and visualization (OIPAV) to assist users. OIPAV is a cross-platform system built on a set of powerful and widely used toolkit libraries. Based on the plugin mechanism, the system has an extensible framework. It provides rich functionalities including data I/O, image processing, interaction, ophthalmic diseases detection, data analysis, and visualization. By using OIPAV, users can easily access to the ophthalmic image data manufactured from different imaging devices, facilitate workflows of processing ophthalmic images, and improve quantitative evaluations. With a satisfying function scalability and expandability, the software is applicable for both ophthalmic researchers and clinicians.

Abstract:Micro-PIV is an important micro-scale flow velocity measurement technology, capable of acquiring the speed of tracer particles and plotting a flow field of the fluid. On the basis of the currently available microscopic measurement technologies in the laboratory, the authors developed a Micro-PIV three-dimensional measurement image processing technology and conducted an optimization and corrected optimization of the image processing. The key to the precision of the two-dimensional coordinates of the particle image centers lies in the matter how to identify and locate the particles according to the main characteristics of the image centers. A three-dimensional identification of fluorescent particles is based on the diffraction images of the particles, which change with the defocus distance, and a Micro-PIV three-dimensional measurement is realized through a matching of the test images to be measured and the numerical template. The defocus distance of a numerical image is that of the test image. On the basis of an analysis of the test images and the numerical template, the test images were pretreated and the numerical template was corrected respectively, resulting in a better matching effectiveness of the test fluorescent particle images and the numerical template.

Abstract:Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a widely used experimental technique for measuring flow. In recent years, open-source PIV software has become more popular as it offers researchers and practitioners enhanced computational capabilities. Software development for graphical processing unit (GPU) architectures requires careful algorithm design and data structure selection for optimal performance. PIV software, optimized for central processing units (CPUs), offer an alternative to specialized GPU software. In the present work, an improved algorithm for the OpenPIV–Python software (Version 0.25.1, OpenPIV, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel) is presented and implemented under a traditional CPU framework. The Python language was selected due to its versatility and widespread adoption. The algorithm was also tested on a supercomputing cluster, a workstation, and Google Colaboratory during the development phase. Using a known velocity field, the algorithm precisely captured the time-average flow, momentary velocity fields, and vortices.

Abstract:Developments of many cardiovascular problems have been shown to have a close relationship with arterial flow conditions. An ultrasound-based particle image velocimetry technique(Echo PIV) was recently developed to measure multi-component velocity vectors and local shear rates in arteries and opaque fluid flows by identifying and tracking flow tracers (ultrasound contrast microbubbles) within these flow fields. To improve the measurement accuracy, sub-pixel calculation method was adopted in this paper to maximize the ultrasound RF signal and B mode image correlation accuracy and increase the image spatial resolution. This algorithm is employed in processing both computer-generated particle image patterns and the B-mode images of microbubbles in rotating flows obtained by a high frame rate (up to 1000 frames per second) ultrasound imaging system. The results show the correlation of particle patterns and individual flow vector quality are improved and the overall flow mappings are also improved significantly. This would help the Echo PIV system to provide better multi-component velocity accuracy.
