Abstract:Photonic crystal （PC） is a structure formed by the periodic arrangement of dielectric materials. Due to its distinct photoregulatory features， it has drawn significant attention in the realm of optics and photonics. From the structure， mechanism， material， and functional application， people have carried out in-depth research and continuous development. Because of their large specific surface area and customizable three-dimensional structure， photonic crystal fibers （PCFs） in particular provide new potential for the development of detecting sensing， smart wearables， photoelectric transmission， and other sectors. In this paper， the structure and color mechanism of PC， basic materials， preparation methods， and applications of PCFs are reviewed. The contribution of electrostatic spinning technology in the field of PCFs is highlighted， as are the functional applications of PCFs in textile printing and dyeing， intelligent response， sensing detection， and hydrophobic regulation are discussed. Finally， the problems in macro preparation and practical production application of PCFs are pointed out， and the possible research focus and direction in the future have prospected.

Abstract:The study of Photonic Crystal Fibers(PCF) is currently a hot pot issue in the area of optical devices and their extraordinary performances have injected new life into the novel optical devices.This article describes the latest advances in the study of PCF at home and abroad in respect of processes,attenuation and splicing and introduces the important applications and the latest new achievements of PCF in high power fiber lasers,fiber amplifier,super-continuum spectrum,femtosecond lasers,all-optical switches and dispersion compensators and other optical devices and presents the trend of its development.

Abstract:We propose a novel porous-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) consisting of asymmetrical rectangular air holes in the core and six-ring hexagonal lattice circular air holes in the cladding for achieving low-loss polarization terahertz transmission in a wide frequency range. By assuming TOPAS as the host material, the finite element method (FEM) is used to investigate its properties. The near-zero flattened dispersion of −0.01±0.02 ps/THz/cm is achieved over a frequency range of 1.0–2.0 THz, as well as a high birefringence of 7.1 × 10<sup>−2</sup> which can be useful for polarization-maintaining applications. Also, critical parameters such as mode field distribution, effective material loss, confinement loss, and effective mode area are discussed in detail. Abstract:Photonic Crystal Fibers have attracted worldwide interest within the last decade due to their unique optical properties and because they exhibit a much higher degree of design freedom compared to conventional optical fibers.In this article, the fabrication technologies of photonic crystal fibers and their applications at home and abroad were formulated at length, especially in the following fields, such as large mode area active photonic crystal fibers and fiber lasers, birefringence fibers and sensors, high nonlinear photonic crystal fibers and frequency transformation, dispersion compensation PCFs and dispersion compensation for telecommunication systems, and photonic band-gap fibers. Finally, according to the above analysis, the prospects and developing trends of photonic crystal fibers in the future were presented.

Abstract:A new type of fiber, known as photonic crystal fiber, has emerged in the past several years. These fibers are characterized by wavelength-scale air holes running along the entire fiber length in the cladding region, which have resulted in some unusual properties compare with conventional optical fibers. Therefore, it has great potential in the field of optical communication.Based on the concept of photonic crystal, the characters of photonic crystal are briefly summarized. Through the concept of photonic crystal fiber, we also introduced the structure and light guiding principle of photonic-bandgap PCF and modified total internal reflection PCF respectively. The paper analyzed briefly various research methods about photonic-bandgap photonic crystal fiber and finally made a comprehensive evaluation.

Abstract:This paper discusses the design considerations of highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibers (HN-PCFs) with a proper value of dispersion and gives some general rules for designing low loss HN-PCFs, then presents several typical applications of HN-PCFs, such as supercontinuum generation and some new devices for optical fiber communication systems. The unique characteristics revealed in these studies enable a number of functionalities including tenability and enhanced nonlinearity that provide a platform for fiber device applications.

Abstract:In this paper, the detailed strain characteristics of a selective-filling birefringent photonic crystal fiber (SF-PCF) were analyzed theoretically. The SF-PCF was achieved by selectively filling two symmetrical air holes around the fiber core of a PCF with a high index liquid. The group birefringence and phase birefringence presented unique characteristics different from the traditional index-guiding birefringence fiber. Hence, the transmission and sensing characteristics of the Sagnac interferometer based on the SF-PCF presented diversity and high sensitivity. Finally, the highest strain sensitivity of -9.56 pm/mu epsilon was theoretically achieved.

Abstract:A kind of high birefringence photonic crystal fiber(PCF)was proposed.Enlarging two of the central air holes,the fiber has twofold symmetry and appears the high birefringence.By squeezing the air hole lattice,the modal birefringence of such a PCF can be further enhanced.The phase and group birefringence of the fundamental mode in such a PCF are studied by using a full-vector finite-element method,and the curves showing the relation between the birefringence of this PCF and the wavelength of the input light are given.The high modal birefringence with magnitude of order of 10-3 has been obtained.The phase modal birefringence of such a PCF with the parameters calculated can reach 5.0×10-3 at 1 550 nm and even higher at longer wavelength.

Abstract:Newly developed hollow-core photonic crystal fibers (HC-PCFs) have increasingly aroused intense research interests because of its unique wave-guiding properties based on the photonic band gap effect. Such fibers have been considered to be very important in applications of high-power delivering and controlling, optical signal processing, and next-generation photonic devices. Recent advances in HC-PCFs are reviewed, including progresses in both fundamental characteristics of mode-guiding, loss mechanism, dispersion and nonlinearities, and applications in high-power fiber-optic delivering, controlling ultra-short optical pulses propagation with dispersion and nonlinear management, nonlinear interactions between light and matters, optical communications and novel photonic devices.
