Abstract:A structure of IF transceiver based on software radio technique and the frame of Burst Mode 8DPSK demodulation are proposed. A feed-forward algorithm for initial reference parameter estimation is adopted in 8DPSK demodulation. The algorithm is proved to be feasible.

Abstract:A novel frequency shift keying (FSK) receiver is presented, including receiving antennas, a low noise amplifier (LNA), band-pass filters (BPF) and a novel all-digital 2-level FSK demodulator. The Mat lab simulation results of the all-digital FSK demodulator show that it can improve bit error ratio (BER) performance compared with pseudo-coherent FSK demodulation (PCFSK). The novel FSK demodulator defined using Verilog HDL is easy to be implemented on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and in CMOS integrated circuit. The whole FSK receiver designed and implemented on a PCB board can receive FSK signal and send the recovered data to computer through RS-232 interface.

Abstract:An all-digital coherent-like binary frequency shift keying (BFSK) demodulation based on the use of a multi-bit shift register, two multi-bit XOR gates and a mean value filter is presented. The demodulator is fabricated in SMIC 65-nm CMOS process with a die area of 0.015mm2. The demodulator consumes 1.44mW with 1.2V of voltage supply and 32MHz of sample clock. The measured bit error ratio (BER) performance is better than that of other non-coherent demodulators. The proposed demodulator exhibits better performance in terms of composite indicator compared to other demodulators. Another advantage of the all-digital demodulator defined using Verilog HDL is that it can also be implemented on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) platform rapidly to recover FSK signals with different carrier frequencies and data rates. These results make the all-digital demodulator suitable for the application in communication and consumer electronics.
A Non-coherent GMSK Software Radio Receiver

Abstract:A burst mode non-coherent GMSK receiver for software radio is proposed. According to this receiver, the symbol timing error and the frequency offset can be acquired from a short preamble. A linearized non-coherent demodulator is used to process the nonlinear GMSK signals. Its demodulator can be used to achieve fast synchronization with feed forward loops. Compared with typical non-coherent GMSK receivers, the proposed receiver has better performance and less complexity. Therefore, it is easier to be implemented, especially on a software radio platform. The last part of this paper is contributed to the comparison of performance between the proposed receiver and conventional non-coherent receivers via computer simulation. The proposed receiver has been successfully testified on our software radio platform.

Abstract:Based on software radio technology,this paper designs a new algorithm for differential quadrature reference phase shift keying (DQPSK) modulation and demodulation system,realizes DQPSK full digital modulation and demodulation on the platform of field programmable gate array (FPGA),and upgrades the circuit through software programming.Compared with traditional DQPSK modulation and demodulation circuit,it not only greatly reduces the size of printed circuit board(PCB),but also can change and upgrade the modulation and demodulation algorithm without changing the circuit,thus reducing the cost of hardware upgrade and algorithm adjustment.Intel's Quartus Ⅱ software is used as the verification platform,Verilog HDL language is used to realize the functional design of each module,and ModelSim software is used to carry out functional simulation to verify the correctness of the algorithm.The operating frequency of the system reaches 132 MHz,which satisfies the expected requirement.

Abstract:Through the research of 8PSK demodulation algorithm including carrier phase recovery and clock timing recovery, an all-digital 8PSK demodulator adaptive to next generation Digital Satellite Television Standard DVB-S2 is proposed. The carrier recovery algorithm consists of a frequency detector (FD) loop and a modified phase-frequency detector (PFD) loop. Its tracking range exceeds one time symbol-rate. The Gardner TED algorithm is used in clock timing recovery loop. All algorithms are prone to hardware implementation. By means of analysis and computer fixed point simulation, the optimal parameter of each loop has been determined. The symbol error performance under AWGN is also presented. The result of simulations indicates that the demodulator performance of SER (symbol error rate) is close to theoretical value and the architecture is realizable.

Abstract:A noncoherent GMSK receiver suitable for software radio is proposed. It is an I/Q structured receiver with a joint symbol timing error and frequency offset estimator based on discrimination and FFT calculation through a specified preamble. A matched filter suitable for this type of noncoherent GMSK receiver is investigated and differential detection is used to recovery the original data. Finally, bit error rate (BER) performances are offered via computer simulation. Compared with the optimal coherent receiver, the proposed receiver is significant due to its smaller implementation complexity. It also has a better performance and is more suitable to implement on common software radio platforms compared with typical noncoherent receivers.

Abstract:We propose a simple and reconfigured dispersion-tolerant single sideband (SSB) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) radio over fiber (RoF) system enabled by digital signal processing (DSP), one in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) modulator and direct-detection. The generated radio frequency (RF) is based on DSP and the frequency can be flexibly adjusted, which can be employed in the future software-defined radio access network (RAN). Based on our proposed system, we have experimentally demonstrated 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) 21.87-Gb/s 21-GHz and 38-GHz SSB-OFDM RoF signal generation and transmission over 80-km single-mode fiber (SMF), respectively.

Abstract:The utilization of probabilistic shaping (PS) techniques effectively mitigates the average power of the transmitted signal by optimizing modulation mapping schemes, which helps to improve the resistance of the wireless transmission system to the nonlinear effect induced by envelope detection. In this work, we have experimentally demonstrated FPGA-based real-time photonics-assisted W-band with envelope detection 23 Gb/s PS 64-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (64QAM) discrete multi-tone (DMT) signals over 40.5-m wireless link. In addition, an intra-symbol two-stage bit-weighted distribution matching-based PS-64QAM scheme was implemented based on FPGA to alleviate nonlinear damage caused by envelope detector. This PS-64QAM scheme has the advantages of no complex multiplication, division operations and low hardware implementation complexity. According to experimental results, by adopting our proposed PS-64QAM scheme, the receiver sensitivity can be significantly improved. This study demonstrates the attainment of the greatest wireless range to date through FPFA-based real-time photonics millimeter wave envelope detection for wireless communication. The results underscore the feasibility of integrating millimeter wave photonics, electronics, and advanced DSP algorithms to accomplish high-speed wireless communication over long distances in real time. This will provide important assistance for our future work in real-time photonics- assisted millimeter wave wireless communication.

Abstract:Based on the properties of Rayleigh flat-fading channel model in mobile radio communication, we propose and research a kind of new turbo DPSK based on linear prediction of channel gain. The receiver has a simple structure due to the fact that linear prediction here does not depend on the autocorrelation function of the fading process. Moreover, we combine linear prediction with Per-survivor processing to improve channel estimation. Simulation results show that new Turbo DPSK system provides good BER performance in fading channel.

Abstract:In this Letter, a wireless transmitter using the new architecture of programmable metasurface is presented. The proposed transmitter does not require any filter, nor wideband mixer or wideband power amplifier, thereby making it a promising hardware architecture for cost‐effective wireless communications systems in the future. Using experimental results, the authors demonstrate that a programmable metasurface‐based 8‐phase shift‐keying (8PSK) transmitter with 8 × 32 phase adjustable unit cells can achieve 6.144 Mbps data rate over the air at 4.25 GHz with a comparable bit error rate performance as the conventional approach without channel coding, but with less hardware complexity.

Abstract:Nowadays the performance of ADCs still cannot fulfill the high requirement of the wideband receiver, in this paper we are motivated to solve this problem by proposing a parallel A/D scheme in the cellular base station with uniformly distributed channels. This scheme adopts multiple parallel ADCs with low sampling rate and high resolution degree to fulfill the requirement of both high sampling rate and high resolution degree. We believe that this scheme offers great practical value for the software radio system design under state-of-the-art technology.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate a direct-detection orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing quadraturephase-shift-keying(OFDM-QPSK) system that is capable of delivering a 32 Gbaud OFDM-QPSK signal over7 km single-mode fiber-28(SMF-28). Intra-symbol frequency-domain averaging(ISFA) channel response estimation is applied to suppress in-band noise,while discrete Fourier transform-spread(DFT-spread) is used to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) of the transmitted OFDM signal. With the aid of ISFA-based channel estimation and PAPR reduction enabled by DFT-spread,the bit-error ratio of the system after 7 km SMF-28 transmission can be improved from 2×10 -3 to error-free when the received optical power is -8.5 d Bm.

Abstract:An all-digital quadrature RF transmitter implemented in TSMC 65-nm CMOS technology is presented. The transmitter incorporates an 8-bit low-pass ΣΔ modulator to reduce the digital baseband data width and the complexity of multi-bit power amplifier cells while not significantly deteriorate the in-band signal quality. For an 802.11g 20MHz OFDM signal, the transmitter achieves 13.93dBm average output power with 30.34% drain efficiency.

Abstract:Although Alternate Parallel Receiver (APRX) Could effectively improve the maximum demodulating rate of the receiver, its frequency domain processing module consumes a large amount Of Multiplication units when the number of parallel input channels is large, making it unsuitable for use on FPGA software defined radio platforms. This paper proposes,in optimization scheme by introducing partitioned Convolution and exploring the spectrum characteristic of the APRX input data, reducing the usage of multipliers greatly. After the optimization, the number of real Multipliers used in the Frequency-domain processing module of the 16-ary APRX is reduced from about 576 to 68, with little performance loss. This optimized APRX is fairly Suitable for FPGA software defined radio platform applications.

Abstract:A software radio transceiver structure for multi-carrier modulation, especially for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), is proposed in this paper. This transceiver can be implemented in a common software radio platform. Concernful points of implementation of an OFDM software radio transceiver compared with that of single carrier modulation are investigated. Effects of the filter banks in the transceiver, such as CIC filters, half band filters (HBF) and interpolation filters, are discussed in the paper. A loop of fractional sampling rate conversion combined with symbol timing and sampling frequency error tracking for the receiver is also discussed. According to the proposed structure and the synchronization algorithms suitable for the receiver, an OFDM software radio transceiver is constructed via computer simulation. Simulation results prove that the OFDM transceiver is feasible.

Abstract:We propose a novel scheme of high bit rate optical frequency shift-keying transmitter. Base on the periodic notch spectral properties of Mach-Zehnder delay interferometer and the carrier suppressing functionality of Mach-Zehnder modulator, a high-speed optical FSK signal can be simply generated with another phase modulator and a single wavelength laser source. The transmission characteristics of this FSK signal are investigated under varying dispersion management. Simulated results show that 40Gb/s FSK signal gives only 1dB penalty after 80 km SMF transmission link under the post-compensation management scheme.

Abstract:This paper describes an FM-UWB transceiver system which employs M-PSK modulated subcarriers for high throughput data transmission. Compared to conventional 2-FSK FM-UWB transceivers, the proposed M-PSK FM-UWB transceiver can increase data rate with minimal increment of RF front-end complexity. A regenerative FM demodulator followed by a low-frequency M-PSK demodulator enables low-power low-cost receiver design with enhanced energy efficiency. Simulation results show that the 8-PSK 3.5-4GHz FM-UWB transceiver system successfully modulates and demodulates 8-PSK data, achieving three time the energy efficiency of the conventional FM-UWB system.

Abstract:The problem of large frequency shift due to Doppler frequency shift (DFS) and carrier frequency bias greatly affects the performance of digital mobile communication systems. Based on the correction algorithms via a digital filter, this paper is dealt with the design and realization of an all digital receiver with a differential quadrature phase shift keying (DQPSK) modulation scheme, which has a data rate of 4.8 kbit/s. Furthermore, the analysis and test of the system performance in the present of DFS and carrier frequency bias are also described. The results have shown that this novel receiver is simple in structure and available in implementation. The receiver is so robust to DFS, as up to such that the DFS is near the transmission symbol rate. Meanwhile, it has much stronger ability against DFS shift effects.

Abstract:Compared with the conventional pulse-shaping transmission system, the full Nyquist rate transmission system with large bandwidth is sensitive to the sampling phase. It has only one sample available in one symbol period and is easily interfered by the channel, which does not allow the traditional symbol synchronization methods to be used directly. Another challenge is that the resource utilization for sampling data processing needs to be minimized due to the excessive consumption of the high data throughput in hardware resources. To solve these issues, we propose a symbol synchronization method based on the combination of software and hardware, which mainly includes two processes: Obtaining the initial phase by using Chirp signal and MOE criterion before communication; tracking the real-time phase using an on-line gradient table and frequency domain analysis of known data during communication. Both processes are proceeded with a phase adjustable clock. Through hardware verification, the sampling phase can be kept close to the optimal phase, thus ensuring the accuracy of the sampling data, and improving the system BER performance.
