Abstract:Based on original yarn model,light interaction model is taken into account to enhance the realistic effect of fabric surface. Using BRDF function of the material can render the weave of microstructure of the fabric.Meanwhile,this paper emphasizes the light interaction model of the fabric,the algorithm of BRDF and the implementation details.The improved simulation system with BRDF algorithm can generate more realistic texture.For coarse and complicated weave pattern jacquard,the simulation is especially perfect.

Abstract:Based on theories of computer graphics and computer simulation technology, this paper has set forth appearance parameter models of fancy yarns in the light of the spinning principle and the physical and geometric structure of fancy yarns. And in combination with local illumination model and diffuse reflection model, the paper has solved the key problems of graphics expression of yarn appearance and simulating structural effect of yarns in light. This paper will discuss the methods of simulating three kinds of fancy yarn - loop yarn, wave yarn and chenille yarn. A visual representation, namely parameterized structural model of appearance, is created by abstracting from the physical and geometric configuration of real fancy yarn. Such improved approach for simulation would help for further optimizing the design of the fabrics made from fancy yarns, which has the theoretical and practical value.

Abstract:Aiming at the bad performance when achieve rich colors of fabric with very limited yarns in the traditional woven industry, the paper comes up with a solution of selecting yarn from a set of yarns based on SAGA(simulated annealing genetic algorithm). In order to reduce the computational complexity, original image is compressed based on clustering algorithm. And the original yarns is divided into four regions based on color separation algorithm to narrow the feasible area. The result of experiments show that image compression and yarns division can greatly improve the speed of SAGA, and SAGA can effectively converges to global optimal solution.

Abstract:The state-of-the-art multispectral imaging system can directly acquire the reflectance of a single strand of yarn that is impossible for traditional spectrophotometers. Instead, the spectrophotometric reflectance of a yarn winding, which is constituted by yarns wound on a background card, is regarded as the yarn reflectance in textile. While multispectral imaging systems and spectrophotometers can be separately used to acquire the reflectance of a single strand of yarn and corresponding yarn winding, the quantitative relationship between them is not yet known. In this paper, the relationship is established based on models that describe the spectral response of a spectrophotometer to a yarn winding and that of a multispectral imaging system to a single strand of yarn. The reflectance matching function from a single strand of yarn to corresponding yarn winding is derived to be a second degree polynomial function, which coefficients are the solutions of a constrained nonlinear optimization problem. Experiments on 100 pairs of samples show that the proposed approach can reduce the color difference between yarn windings and single strands of yarns from 2.449 to 1.082 CIEDE2000 units. The coefficients of the optimal reflection matching function imply that the reflectance of a yarn winding measured by a spectrophotometer consists of not only the intrinsic reflectance of yarn but also the nonignorable interreflection component between yarns.
Color Specification of a Single Strand of Yarn from a Multispectral Image

Abstract:Many applications in textile require color measurement of single strands of yarns due to unavailability of a mass of consecutive yarns. While multispectral imaging systems can capture images of single strands of yarns, an unavoidable problem accompanied is how to specify their colors from images, in which pixel values vary with positions owing to three-dimensional shape of yarn. Based on the response of multispectral imaging systems to single strands of yarns, this article formulates the color specification problem as an optimization question and four methods are proposed: average of all pixels (AA), average of pixels in central area (AC), maxima of all pixels (MA), and lightness weighting method (LW). The first experiment analyzed color distribution of pixels on a single strand of yarn. Experimental results show pixels in central area have smallest color variation and largest intensity. The second experiment compared the proposed methods. Results show that CIEXYZ, L*, and C* values specified by the AA and MA methods are lowest and highest. Finally, colors of single strands of yarns specified by the proposed methods were compared with spectrophotometric colors of yarn windings using 12 pairs of single strands of yarns and yarn windings. Experimental results show the MA method yields the smallest lightness and chroma difference compared with spectrophotometric colors of yarn windings. The average color difference between spectrophotometric colors of yarn windings and multispectral imaging colors of single strands of yarns specified by the AA, AC, MA, and LW methods is 3.45, 2.72, 2.37, and 3.33 CMC(2:1) units. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Apparel Products Simulation Using Texture Mapping with Color Fidelity.

Abstract:In this paper, a new technique to simulate apparel products is introduced. The technique includes two issues: texture mapping and color fidelity. A texture grid is generated interactively to map the pixels in the target area onto the texture space. Through this grid, user can subtly twist and stretch the texture to achieve realistic effects. As the proposed texture mapping technique is image based, the computation complication and the mapping distortion caused by three-dimensional (3D) models can be avoided. We employ the dichromatic model to achieve the color fidelity. The color signals in the target area are divided into two linear components according to the model. Then only one component is substituted by the new color specified by users while the other one is held. This substitution technique is accomplished automatically and can keep the illuminant distribution on the target area unchanged.
An Efficient Method for Solid‐colour and Multicolour Region Segmentation in Real Yarn‐dyed Fabric Images

Abstract:This paper presents an efficient approach to solid‐colour and multicolour region segmentation in real yarn‐dyed fabric images. The approach is based on a novel model describing the spectral response of a multispectral imaging system to yarn‐dyed fabrics. The model indicates that solid‐colour regions cannot be distinguished from multicolour regions in terms of reflectance, tristimulus, or CIELAB values owing to a geometric term representing the influence of fabric surface condition on measured colours. The geometric term makes it difficult to determine the segmentation thresholds of CIEXYZ and CIELAB colour histograms. However, solid‐colour and multicolour regions can be detected in CIExyY space because chromaticity coordinates are impervious to the geometric term. The CIExyY histograms of a solid‐colour region accord with one Gaussian distribution, but those of a multicolour region accord with a combination of two Gaussian distributions. The CIEXYZ, CIELAB, and CIExyY colour distributions of both solid‐colour and multicolour yarn‐dyed fabrics were analysed in detail in simulation and real experiments. Experimental results show that solid‐colour yarn‐dyed regions can be distinguished from multicolour yarn‐dyed fabric regions by the shapes of CIExyY histograms, but cannot be distinguished by the shapes of CIEXYZ or CIELAB histograms.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel method for segmentation of weft and warp yarns in multicolour yarn‐dyed fabric images. A multicolour yarn‐dyed fabric is cross‐woven by weft and warp yarns with different colours. When a multispectral imaging system is used to measure the colour of a multicolour yarn‐dyed fabric image, its weft and warp yarns need to be detected before analysing their colours. Detection of interstices between weft and warp yarns is firstly conducted. A modified K‐means clustering approach is then utilised to separate weft and warp yarns. The number of clusters is fixed to 2. The metric to measure the distance between a pixel and the mean of a cluster is the CIELAB colour difference. The initial means are determined by the expected values of fitted Gaussian distributions to CIExyY colour histograms. Experimental results show that the proposed method is promising for the segmentation of weft and warp yarns in multicolour yarn‐dyed fabrics, with an improved segmentation accuracy and much faster processing speed than K‐means clustering in CIEXYZ and CIELAB spaces.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of the complex procedure and multiple solutions in the present mapping and color separation algorithms of woven photograph CAD technology,the paper compares it with the technology of color separation in RIP and takes the characteristic of the woven photograph CAD technology and the actual fabric production process into account,and then comes up with a solution of mapping and color separation of woven photograph CAD which is based on the compression of saturation in the HSI color space.In this solution,colors are divided into some mapping spaces to map and separate according to the hue angles of the primary colors.It is easy to understand and resolves the trouble of multiple solutions of mapping and color separation by multicolor base.The paper realized this solution of mapping and color separation of woven photograph CAD under the Jacket for MatLab environment.Experiments show that this solution is very effective in color separation.In addition,the use of GPU computation in Jacket improves computational efficiency of image processing,which makes it possible to design by real-time interaction on the internet.
Recolouring Digital Textile Printing Design with High Fidelity

Abstract:An algorithm of recolouring of polychromatic digital textile printing images is proposed based on the investigation of texture and colour distribution in different channels and image segmentation. A polychromatic image is first separated into monochromatic regions based on watershed transformation in CIELAB colour space. The initial markers are selected by hierarchical histogram analysis to eliminate the inherent drawbacks of over‐segmentation in the watershed algorithm. Then the individual monochromatic regions can be mapped with different colours to obtain desirable designs. The artefacts in the boundaries of different regions are reduced by a technique of colour mixing through Gaussian blurring. The experimental simulation results indicated that the performance of the algorithm was quite good in both texture and colour fidelity.

A Multispectral Imaging Approach to Colour Measurement and Colour Matching of Single Yarns Without Winding

Abstract:This paper investigates a multispectral imaging approach to colour measurement and colour matching of single yarns. The small size of a single yarn makes it impossible for spectrophotometers directly to acquire its spectral reflectance. Multispectral imaging systems, on the other hand, have the potential to measure the reflectance of single yarns as they can record both the spectral and the spatial information of a sample. A multispectral imaging system, namely imaging colour measurement, has been developed to conduct colour measurement of single yarns. A single yarn is first detected from backgrounds by a modified K‐means clustering method. The reflectance of the single yarn is then specified by an averaging method. Comparative experiments based on 100 pairs of single yarns and corresponding yarn windings show that the reflectance magnitude of a single yarn acquired by imaging colour measurement is smaller than that of corresponding yarn winding measured by a Datacolor 650 spectrophotometer. Experiments on 16 single yarns show that the repeatability and spatial reproducibility of the imaging colour measurement system in measuring a single yarn colour are 0.1185 and 0.2827 CMC(2:1) units. A colour matching comparison experiment (pass or fail), using 24 pairs of single yarns and corresponding pairs of solid‐colour yarn dyed fabrics, shows that single yarns measured by imaging colour measurement can achieve similar colour matching results to solid‐colour yarn dyed fabrics measured by the Datacolor 650 spectrophotometer, with degrees of similarity of 87.5 and 83.3% when the CMC(2:1) and CIE2000(2:1:1) colour difference formulas are employed.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel unsupervised approach to detect dominant colour regions standing out conspicuously in yarn-dyed fabric images. For a dominant colour region of a yarn-dyed fabric, measured by an imaging system, its individual yarn has an irregular three-dimensional shape resulting in significant colour difference among pixels of the yarn. This difference leads to difficulty in segmenting yarns into dominant colour regions. A probabilistic model is proposed in this study to associate the colour of a dominant colour region with the colours of its yarns. Based on this model, the colour histograms of a dominant colour region are first estimated from those of yarns in a yarn-dyed fabric image. Then, a hierarchical segmentation structure is devised to detect dominant colour regions in the image. Experimental results show that the proposed approach achieves satisfactory performance for dominant colour region segmentation in yarn-dyed fabric images, with high computational efficiency.

Abstract:In this article, the authors establish a new method of developing weave simulation CAD system. Firstly, a mathematic model for yarn simulation is set up, which is based on light and shade effect generated by illumination. And then, after abstracting the surface layer information of woven fabric, the authors finally realize the weave simulation, with the floating principle fully considered. Besides, each functional module is designed to be relatively independent, which is helpful for updating system in the future.
A Hybrid Rendering Algorithm for Textile Objects

Abstract:Although realistic textile rendering has been widely used in virtual garment and try-on systems, a robust method to simulate textile with a realistic appearance and high fidelity is yet to be established. We propose to use a novel hybrid geometric- and image-based rendering (GIBR) method to achieve photo realistic representation of textile products. The image-based technique, with its radiance synthesis algorithm, enables us to recover the reffectance properties of textile in an environment photo, and thus can render the appearance of textile material. The geometry-based technique, with its traditional illumination model of assigning illumination parameters extracted from the original scene (such as radiance and chroma dispatch), makes it possible to interactively manipulate 3D virtual objects in the real environment. Our realistic textile rendering method has advantages over the traditional ones in its easiness to implement and its wide range of applications.

Abstract:We present a method for efficient synthesis of photorealistic free-form knitwear. Our approach is motivated by the observation that a single cross-section of yarn can serve as the basic primitive for modeling entire articles of knitwear. This primitive, called the lumislice, describes radiance from a yarn cross-section based on fine-level interactions — such as occlusion, shadowing, and multiple scattering — among yarn fibers. By representing yarn as a sequence of identical but rotated cross-sections, the lumislice can effectively propagate local microstructure over arbitrary stitch patterns and knitwear shapes. This framework accommodates varying levels of detail and capitalizes on hardware-assisted transparency blending. To further enhance realism, a technique for generating soft shadows from yarn is also introduced.

Abstract:We present a framework for knitwear modeling and rendering that accounts for characteristics that are particular to knitted fabrics. We first describe a model for animation that considers knitwear features and their effects on knitwear shape and interaction. With the computed free-form knitwear configurations, we present an efficient procedure for realistic synthesis based on the observation that a single cross section of yarn can serve as the basic primitive for modeling entire articles of knitwear. This primitive, called the lumislice, describes radiance from a yarn cross section that accounts for fine-level interactions among yarn fibers.
