Abstract:A multivariable nonlinear self-tuning PID controller is presented by using artifical neural networks. Controller parameters are automatically tuned via learning of neural network weights without knowing the system dynamic model. By appling this controller to control the temperatures of a 2-channel water bath system. The simulation results are satisfied with fast response speed and better robustness.

Abstract:An MIMO auto-tuning method is develop that can be used by a layman of control. The method is based on MIMO identification and robust control design. The identification part delivers process model and model error bounds. The controller design block performs control synthesis, simulation and robust analysis. All steps can be done automatically. The parameters the user needs to enter are minimal and easy to understand and to obtain. The developed scheme is applied to a high-precision wafer stage motion control using simulations. The step tracking performance is optimized using the method and it is compared with a multi-loop PID controller.

Abstract:This paper describes a new multivariable bilinear self—tuning controller with a generalized minimum variance control technique. Abstract:To solve the problem of multivariable process control,a modular multivariable model algorithmic controller is introduced in this article,all the control goals are listed and achieved in refusal order.In this algorithm,modular multivariable control and model algorithmic in predictive control are combined,and stair-like control strategy is introduced as well.As a result,it's possible to solve dynamic MMC problem.Using Shell problem as research object,simulation results illuminate the correctness of this algorithm,and show the characteristics of it such as simple structure,ability to solve the dynamic modular multivariable problem,less calculation time,liable to design and rebuild.Because of these characteristics,the modular multivariable model algorithmic controller has high application value.

Abstract:Controller design using the multiobjective optimization method is considered, in which the objectives and constraints for designing controllers are analyzed and improved. In order to satisfy the objectives synchronously, a new multiobjective optimization algorithm is introduced into designing an optimal PID controller, inspired by tissue P systems. The controller's parameters are coded and evolved according to the rules of the associated membrane. The unique design is that the whole population of the structure is divided into several subpopulations to decrease the computational complexity. Simulation results show that the algorithm converges fast and the solutions form a precise front and distribute uniformly. The controllers designed by the variant of P systems have satisfactory performance. Moreover, the analysis of solutions shows that the new algorithm is suitable for studying the relationship between performance and tuning parameters. The proposed method is useful for designing and evaluating different controllers.

Abstract:In this study, a novel data-driven direct automatic tuning scheme is proposed for the general form of fixed-structure digital controllers of hybrid systems. The controller is directly auto-tuned while it interacts with the real plant; no modelling or plant identification procedure is involved. The auto-tuning problem is formulated as a controller parameter optimisation problem, which is solved using a quasi-Newton method. A new method for calculating the gradient of the objective function from closed-loop experiment data is proposed to reduce the sensitivity to the initial values of the parameters. Domain knowledge of controller design based on pole placement and internal model principle is introduced as a priori information to further improve the performance of the auto-tuning. Numerical simulations are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and performances of different objective functions are evaluated. The performance of the proposed scheme is compared with the standard relay feedback and iterative feedback tuning methods. Reliable controllers can be obtained automatically by using the proposed scheme; the only remaining task of the control engineer is to estimate the order of the plant by counting the number of independent energy storage elements.

Abstract:A new approach for analyzing the stability and the convergence of multivariable deterministic self-tuning control system is presented. A criterion is established, which is independent of specific parameter estimation algorithm and specific control law. With the aid of the presented criterion, different types of self-tuning control systems are analyzed, and some guidelines for designing new self-tuning control systems are obtained. Finally, in absence of commonly used tool-key technical lemma, the stability and the convergence of one-step ahead self-tuning control system are given.

Abstract:Self-tuning control is an important approach to intelligent control system design because this kind of control system uses online parameter estimation (or learning) to derive the model of the plant, and as a result of model parameter estimation (or learning), the controller parameters can be adjusted online. However, we still lack a unified analysis tool (which is independent of specific controller design strategy and parameter estimation algorithm) that can be used by engineers to easily understand and judge the stability, convergence, and robustness of this kind of self-tuning control system. This study is focused on a unified analysis of deterministic multivariable self-tuning control systems with the help of the virtual equivalent system (VES) approach based on the transfer function concept. For different parameter estimation situations (three cases are considered, i.e., parameter estimation converges to its true value, parameter estimation converges to other values, and parameter estimation does not converge), four theorems and two corollaries on the stability, convergence, and robustness of deterministic multivariable self-tuning control systems are given with some remarks. These results are independent of specific controller design strategy and parameter estimation algorithm. From the results obtained in this study, it is concluded that the convergence of parameter estimates is unnecessary for the stability and convergence of a self-tuning control system. The feedback information of the self-tuning control system itself is sufficient to achieve the control objective, i.e., the external excitation signal is unnecessary for the deterministic multivariable self-tuning control system. Moreover, on the basis of the results of the stability, convergence, and robustness of deterministic multivariable self-tuning control systems, we have obtained a profound understanding of the self-tuning control system design method. This understanding will provide more flexibility for engineers in real applications of this kind of controller design strategy.

Abstract:This study develops a novel nonlinear multiple model self-tuning control method for a class of nonlinear discrete-time systems. An increment system model and a modified robust adaptive law are proposed to expand the application range, thus eliminating the assumption that either the nonlinear term of the nonlinear system or its differential term is global-bounded. The nonlinear self-tuning control method can address the situation wherein the nonlinear system is not subject to a globally uniformly asymptotically stable zero dynamics by incorporating the pole-placement scheme. A novel, nonlinear control structure based on this scheme is presented to improve control precision. Stability and convergence can be confirmed when the proposed multiple model self-tuning control method is applied. Furthermore, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:A generalized minimal variance stochastic self-tuning controller with a changeable control performance criterion was proposed in this paper. The law which determines the weighting transfer functions in every sample interval was solved through the pole-placement. This control algorithm is quite simple. Simulation results show that the strategy of variable weighting transfer functions is superior to the ordinary self-tuning controllers. Finally, the results of the full-scale test on a steamer steering were given.

Abstract:For linear multivariable discrete-time control systems, a new design approach to robust optimal controllers is developed in this paper. By presenting a new design concept to select row characteristic functions for a multi-variable system, a robust decomposition method is built up to guarantee the normalization of the closed-loop transfer function matrix. The H-infinity robust stability and the optimal time domain indices for the closed-loop system are then achieved simultaneously by utilizing the 1-infinity optimal control approach in its decoupling equivalent system. Finally, optimization and robustness of this digital controller are verified by an on-line application in a paper-making control system for three different indices of quantity and moisture.

Abstract:A model based multivariable coordinated control algorithm is presented to meet the complex requirements of industrial process. The control algorithm takes both the control performance of controlled variables and the Ideal Resting Values (IRV) of manipulated variables into consideration. In a system with more inputs than outputs the controller first makes every effort to drive the controlled variables to their setpoints, then if it is possible, makes some of the manipulated variables approach their IRV in economic consideration. For a system with less inputs than outputs, the controller enforces different control efforts to the controlled variables according to their economic importance. The condition for a unique solution, steady state property and stability of the controller are given in this paper, providing a theoretical guideline for the controller parameter tuning. A FCCU fractionator is introduced here as a case study, for which an multivariable control strategy is developed by using the coordinated algorithm. Simulated results demonstrated that the control algorithm presented possesses good control performances and practical significance.

Abstract:This paper presents a new approach to automatic tuning of fuzzy logic controller for manipulators, which modifies the shape of membership functions automatically according to previous responses to achieve a desired control performance. On the basis of defining a set of cubic splines as membership functions regarding change-in-error, the optimal membership functions are found by the Nelder and Mead's simplex algorithms. The proposed control scheme consists of a traditional fuzzy logic controller and a conventional derivative controller. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the control scheme, results of a two-link manipulator in the presence of load and friction changes were reported.

Abstract:To solve nonlinear multi-objective dynamic optimization problem originates from process control, a modified frame of dynamic modular multivariable controller based on lexicographic optimization strategy is proposed, which had control modules with different priorities. A modified one-step fast nonlinear predictive control algorithm is used to solve control input in every module. Strategy of the selection of final control input is also proposed. The computer simulations on a two-tank system are carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Abstract:A multivariable direct adaptive decoupling controller was presented using multiple models. This controller improves the transient response, when the parameters of the system change abruptly. It is composed of multiple fixed controller models and two adaptive controller models. The fixed controller models were derived from the corresponding fixed system models directly and guaranteed to cover the controller parameter set. It not only eliminates the steady-state error but also decouples the system. The global convergence was obtained and several simulation examples were presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
