Abstract:Objective To compare the biological remodeling of two types of bone- ligament junction (tendon- to- bone and bone- to- bone) after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Methods Anterior cruciate ligament was resected in a dog model and two types of bone- ligament junction were evaluated in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with the central one- third of the patellar tendon. Standard HE stain was performed for histological observation at the 1.5,3,6 and 12- month after the operation. Results The insertion of the normal anterior cruciate ligament into bone occurred through complex transition zones of ligamentous tissue, fibrocartilage, mineralized fibrocartilage and bone. There was a regular tidemark line between fibrocartilage and mineralized fibrocartilage. These normal transition zones with a tidemark line had been recreated in tendon- to- bone model but not in bone- to- bone model one year after operation. Conclusion The tendon- to- bone remodel healed more quickly than the bone- to- bone healing.
